Today I'm showing you the top things you can do in the beautiful capital of Austria, Vienna. With its cultural and intellectual heritage, Vienna is one of the most refined cities in Europe.
This can make some think it stuffy resulting in this atmospheric Austrian capital being excluded from many travel journeys. This is a mistake because Vienna is in truth a warm, friendly and charming destination with much to offer any visitor.
We are exploring the whole top things to do in Vienna, Austria, as we visited and enjoy the beautiful place, watch this full video and see the top things to do in Vienna, Austria.
First exploring St Stephen’s Cathedral. This monolithic structure stands proud in the Stephensplatz and has been the most important church in Vienna and Austria since its construction.
The beauty of this building is undeniable and its huge tower dominates the Vienna skyline and stands as the tallest church tower in Austria.
Everything about St Stephen’s Cathedral oozes opulence from the Romanesque and Gothic design of the exterior to the dominating pointed tower, and the intricately decorated main roof complete with hundreds of colored tiles forming an intriguing pattern.
Prater Amusement Park. What could be a more enjoyable way to experience Vienna than having a fun-packed day at the Prater Amusement Park?
The Wiener Prater Park was once a hunting ground that developed into a public space for food stands and small amusement stalls, it now hosts the impressive Amusement Park and is free to enter.
Inside the park is a multitude of rides and stalls including a huge Ferris wheel, bumper cars, carousels, and hair-raising rollercoasters. There are also such things as shooting ranges, a waxworks display and a light gauge railway to keep you entertained.
If rides and thrills are not your kinds of thing, there are several restaurants and cafes in the park to sit back and enjoy the scenery in.
Exploring the Schönbrunn Palace standing since the 1600s and holding a major role of cultural importance in Austria, the Schonbrunn Palace is a colossal 1441 room structure and complex that is the main tourist attraction in Vienna.
The Habsburgs have held residence here for many years and indeed emperors of Austria have been born in the palace too. The palace itself is an immense building and designed in a Baroque style with an asymmetrical main building that has hundreds of windows and statues on the rooftop.
Inside the palace are an assortment of rooms all fully furnished and decorated in the original style you can enjoy a tour through the rooms and admire the sumptuous furnishings and see how Austrian royalty lived.
The Hofburg Palace is another huge palatial complex that pays tribute to the power and influence of the Habsburg dynasty and served as the main winter palace for the rulers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire for hundreds of years.
Today the complex is home to offices of the president of Austria and serves as a presidential base. The buildings have undergone many additions since their creation in the 13th century and the most impressive of which is the fabulous semi-circular Neue Burg.
Visitors can admire the beauty and style of the baroque architecture, take a tour through the imperial apartments or visit one of the detailed museums in the complex.
Another exceptional part to the Schonbrunn Palace Complex and worthy of a separate visit in its own right, the gardens at Schonbrunn are simply magical.
The grounds of the park extend from the Palace for over a kilometer and you could spend hours walking through the various sections and displays.

Viennese Food - Eating Sachertorte Cake in Vienna, Austria at Café Sacher Wien Video Transcript:
Good morning. We're here in Vienna (Wien).
We figured today we would go out for cake. Yeah. Cake is going to be our lunch so we're going to be trying the famous Sachertorte (Sacher Torte). We're going to the hotel where it originated and we'll be eating at Cafe Zacher Wien (Sacher Hotel). And it is a bit of a walk. It is a bit of a walk for sure. It is like 30 minutes according to Google Maps. Yes. So but this is our first time to explore Vienna (Wien) on foot so we're actually quite excited and yeah we'll show you a bit of the journey along the way. Now let's go earn our cake.
I went with the classic I ordered the Sachertorte so if you take a look here it has got a little chocolate seel letting you know it if the official. The original. The original. And also this little paper Sacher the original since 1832.
And if I open this they say they make they make this cake fresh every single day and you can enjoy it in Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck or in Graz.
They made the chocolate cake with apricot jam, a little bit of cream on the side. It has subtle flavors.
I ordered a iced chocolate. Iced hot chocolate (Wiener Eisschokolade mit Schlagobers). Ice chocolate. With ice cream, whipped cream and these little pralines on top. OMG. It is so good. I've already had some. In case you hadn't noticed. I think we've noticed. Haha.
It is just such a rich chocolate.
We figured we would try two different cakes. Yep. So Sam do you remember which one you got? Yes, I am trying the Liliput (Original Sacher Gewürzgugelhupf) and this is another Viennese specialty. Yeah. So why don't we have a dissection here.
So it is a ring cake with spices, ginger, candied orange. That looks so good.
Alright Mister. So for your drink he got the Wiener Melange. The wiener melange. So basically that is an espresso with milk and whipped cream. Oh la lah.
Here is the bill. Alrighty so 26 Euros total. Basically 13 per person. Yeah. And the most expensive thing that we ordered was your drink. So yeah, you obviously come here for the ambience. The experience but also the cake is delicious. I have to say and we do recommend you guys come here. And now let's go walk off all that sugar.
This is part of our Travel in Austria video series showcasing Austrian food, Austrian culture and Austrian cuisine.

Wir haben uns in Wien wohlgefühlt. Bis heute haben wir
Wien mehrmals besucht.

Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | For centuries, Vienna was the crown jewel of the rich and powerful Habsburg Empire. A century after that empire's fall, the Viennese appreciate their imperial legacy as a cultural wellspring — and an excuse to live in style. We'll take in the city's wealth of elegant gardens, great art and fine music. Then we'll explore the city's surroundings, with a trip along the romantic Danube River and a hike through the breathtakingly Baroque Melk Abbey.

2017 Europe Tour Behind the Scenes Video 5, October 21 Vienna, Austria
While in Vienna on October 21 the Orchestra shared their thoughts on the importance of our long term relationship with the Musikverein and we also followed along as they visited the Musikverein Archives to check out the original score of Mahler’s Symphony No. 6.
The 2017 European Tour includes an extended itinerary, with concerts in Hamburg, Linz, Luxembourg, Paris, and Vienna, and features special encore performances of the Orchestra’s ground-breaking 2014 production of Janáček’s 'The Cunning Little Vixen' directed by Yuval Sharon. Two sold out performances of this production, which blends together live singers with projected animation, will be presented at Vienna’s Musikverein; this will be the first time an opera has ever been presented in a staged production format at the historic concert hall. Of this production, 'The New York Times' said “… the Cleveland ‘Vixen,’ performed at the orchestra’s spectacularly resonant home theater, Severance Hall, was designed to return attention to the opera’s action while still highlighting one of the world’s great orchestras.”
