Kayaking with Dolphins off Gabriola Island BC
I live in Paradise!
Yesterday morning I woke to the sound of very loud blows coming from the point (Orlebar). I threw a coat and jeans over my jammies, grabbed my binos and camera and ran to the water. Before me in the glowing morning light a humpback whale was peacefully swimming, surfacing and diving. She hung around all day.
Philip, my glorious husband showed up with a cup of coffee for me. If that isn't a treat enough the growing crowd of onlookers also witnessed California sea lions barking and feasting on salmon, as nonchalant harbour porpoise swam by.
Later on, a lone kayaker was surrounded by pacific white sided dolphins frolicking, flipping, travelling at high speeds and I thought if we saw Orcas today it would be the marine mammal viewing day of all times.
To soak in the visuals of the day and luxuriate in the excitement of it all, I decided to go out in my kayak.
Hang on to your paddle!!!!

On the Water - Gabriola Island Is Bob's Island
If you are new to the idea of fishing Vancouver Island and just beginning your research, you likely have not considered—or even heard of—the Nanaimo area as a fishing destination. For those traveling to and from “The Rock” for their bucket list adventure, or for a growing number of commuters to Vancouver, Nanaimo is by far the most popular landing point—the summertime ferry lineups will most certainly confirm that for you. And whether you sensibly come by ferry or splurge and take a float plane or heli-jet, you’ll pass right by one of the best, most accessible fishing grounds that Vancouver Island has to offer—Gabriola Island.

Lovely weekend getaway to beautiful Pages Resort (Silva Bay) on Gabriola Island, British Columbia. Here are a few random photos taken at the resort, nearby Silva Bay pub, Drumbeg Provincial Park and two other parks, the local Saturday and Sunday markets. The island is beautiful, bucolic and home to many local artists, authors, charming shops and restaurants.
HMCS Saskatchewan and Orlebar Point, Nov 2015
Video from an excellent day of diving up in Nanaimo, BC, Canada. Orlebar off Galiano had some amazing sponges all the way down to 45m as well as an octo crawling around and a sea lion checking us out during our safety stop. The viz was unreal. We were able to see the surface from 25m on the Saskatchewan. Great day of diving with some great people and the excellent crew from Sea Dragon.

A Dive at Cottam Point, North of Nanaimo, BC, Feb 28, 2015
Many sea lions were in the area during the first few minutes of this dive from the Seadog Road beach access at Cottam Point, north of Nanaimo, BC, on February 25, 2015.
I swam along the reef line to the left, rounding to the wall section. There are many small to large boulders, populated by many rockfish, ling-cod, perch, kelp greenlings, and pacific giant octopus. I believe the wall I was swimming along leads to the end of the shallower wall accessed from Beachcomber Regional Park.
Dive stats - max depth 73 fsw, average probably 58-60fsw, 37 minutes, 1400 pounds of 2500 in a low pressure steel 98.
