The Garden State’s 863-Pound Giant Pumpkin
A giant pumpkin is on display at Ort Farms in Long Valley, New Jersey. This fantastic fruit weighs 863 pounds and is drawing crowds from near and far!
“Unbelievable, just unbelievable. I was just wondering how many pies that would make,” Audrey Ingalls, a fan of the great pumpkin said.
The gargantuan gourd was grown by local attorney Michael Starr who apparently spent an hour a day for a couple of months nurturing it. And the pumpkin's size is no accident.
“I believe he bought a seed from a record pumpkin in 2010. It probably cost close to a hundred dollars for one seed,” Harvey Ort Jr. of Ort Farms said.
Starr wanted to show off his great pumpkin and Ort Farms was glad to oblige. It's a good promotion for the farm's roadside store which is doing a pretty brisk pre-Halloween business.

A Deer Migration You Have to See to Believe | National Geographic
Researchers have only recently found the longest large mammal migration in the continental United States: Mule deer migrate 150 miles (241 kilometers) in western Wyoming each year. And it's no easy task for them—barriers include highways, fences, tough terrain, and bodies of water. In this video by Joe Riis, a National Geographic grantee and regular contributor, see the modern-day obstacles mule deer overcome to make the migratory trek that they likely have been making for generations.
