Cano Island Dive Trip, Osa Peninsula, Drake Bay, Costa Rica May 2019
2 dives at Cano Island, Bahia Drake, Osa Penninsula. The red filter was great deeper but made it a little too hot at 40 feet. Variety of species was phenomenal in the one little spot. Like most dives seem to, the second was better than first.

Frog TV Episode 10 - Osa Peninsula Area
Welcome to frog tv - I'm Adam baker.
This week I'm introducing one of the most Bio-Intense places on earth, as stated by National Geographic. It is Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula. Here you'll find a world of wildlife, nature and top eco-lodges that are truly magical and all of them are minutes away from the Corcovado National Park.
THIS - really - is Costa Rica!
Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula is found in the South East of the country. It's best reached via a short 45 minute domestic flight from San Jose into one of three local airports found in the area.
Puerto Jimenez is the main town on the Osa Peninsula and has a population of just 2,000 inhabitants. This area used to be famous for it's gold mining back in the 1960's but has since become 'the most biologically intense place on Earth'. Here you can find at least half of all species living in Costa Rica, making this region a must for wildlife enthusiasts.
This area of rare lowland rainforest enjoys a tropical climate all year round, and receives plenty of rainfall from August to September.
In October 1975, what is now widely considered the crown jewel in the extensive system of national parks and biological reserves - was established: The Corcovado National Park.
The Park covers a third of the Osa Peninsula, and is home to a vast array of wildlife including: the popular two and three-toed sloth, many colourful toucans, exotic species of dart frog, all four species of monkey found in Costa Rica, the puma and jaguar, as well as anteaters, coatis, ocelots, otters and crocs. - To name but a few...
To match the wildlife there is a great many tours to choose from, most of which can be organised from the hotels and lodges in the area. You can select from nature hikes to whale watching, snorkeling trips to scuba diving out at the Isla del Caño reserve. In these protected waters you can expect to see some amazing marine life from humpback whales, turtles, dolphins and much, much more.
The accommodation in the area encompsses nature retreats to true luxury, eco-resorts. The remote nature of the region makes for some of the most unique lodging in all of Costa Rica, run by owners who live and breathe sustainable tourism.
The Aguila de Osa Inn is found just outside the town of Drake Bay to the west of the National Park. All your meals are included in this family friendly eco-lodge as well as some great day tours that leave straight from the hotel.
Here you will find the best dive shop in the area.
Copa de Arbol is a relatively new luxury, boutique hotel that opened in 2012. This romantic, jungle treehouse hotel offers great ocean views. All your meals are freshly prepared and included in your stay.
Spacious, air-conditioned cabins are great for families or couples looking to get a true off the beaten path experience.
If you're looking for a true nature experience then the Lapa Rios Ecolodge is widely considered to be the best eco-lodge in Costa Rica. Here you'll enjoy freshly prepared meals included in your stay, a great selection of tours that take you around the protected reserve and teach about the conservation efforts of Lapa Rios.
Each of the 16 bungalows offer exquisite rainforest and ocean views. They are ideal for couples looking to experience Corcovado's wonderful wildlife first hand.
So there we go, one Costa Rica's 'Lushest' locations, and even that is an understatement!
Catch me next time for more info on everything Costa Rica!
For Frog TV I'm Adam Baker,
Hasta la proxima.

MPA for OSA - Creating a Marine Protected Area off Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula
The Osa Peninsula, on the South Pacific side of Costa Rica is known by National Geographic as the most biologically intense place on Earth. The waters off the Osa Peninsula are a virtual marine wonderland, housing over twenty-five species of dolphins and whales that live here year round or migrate through and also hosts four of the world's eight species of sea turtles.
In fact, Costa Rica enjoys one of the most biologically diverse ocean ecosystems in the world. This is mainly because the heart of a vast habitat known as the Costa Rican Thermal Convection Dome, named for its proximity to this country, lies here. Shallow warm waters lie on top of low-oxygen cold water, creating the perfect ecosystem for a vast variety of marine life. The dome off the coast of Costa Rica is the only one in the world that is constant. Such conditions provide the Costa Rican Pacific waters with a very unique scheme of biological richness. Whales, dolphins, tuna, marlin, manta rays, sea turtles, sailfish and more, congregate in this area taking advantage of this year-round thermal dome of ecologically rich waters.
All this rich biodiversity is found here on the Osa Peninsula, but yet, the area is almost entirely unprotected, except for small areas around the national parks. Commercial fishing techniques such as long lining, shrimping, gill netting and tuna fishing are wreaking havoc on this delicate and biologically diverse area and its marine inhabitants, and if urgent and drastic actions are not taken immediately, the world will lose this treasure forever.
The quickest and easiest way to protect this precious and pristine area before it is to late is to create a Marine Protected Area (MPA)... and we need your help to do it.
