Exploring Osaka Station City: Plazas | The Real Japan | HD
Exploring Osaka Station City: Plazas | The Real Japan | HD
This is the first in a series of films about Osaka Station City. It focuses on the plazas within the complex.
Osaka Station City is a vast shopping and transportation complex, bookended by the towering North Gate and South Gate Buildings, and with Osaka Station at its heart.
This sprawling development connects multiple rail and subway lines with a bus terminal and incorporates Umeda Station, and is justifiably tagged with the suffix 'City'.
Its layout (particularly on the ground and below ground levels) is notorious for being confusing, making it easy to get lost here. I can testify to this, because despite coming here since 2000, I still get lost - almost every time I use the station.
The North and South buildings include extensive shopping and leisure facilities including department stores, hotels, restaurants, a multiplex cinema, a sports centre, clincs, and much more.
If, like me, you're not much into consumption shopping, then (travel aside) the main reason to come here is to marvel at the astonishing engineering and architecture.
The current configuration opened in 2011, following five years of construction and redevelopment of existing buildings and the surrounding area.
Osaka Station itself is elevated above street level, on the second floor of the station complex. Which is where our exploring begins.
In this film - shot in real time, with no edits (and without commentary or captions) - we travel from the main concourse entrance from the Central gate on Level 2, known as Atrium Plaza.
Then up multiple escalators, past the roof gardens on the 11th floor with its impressive views over Osaka city below, up further to the 12th floor. From here you also have an excellent view of the landmark Umeda Sky Building.
On the 5th floor we pause to take a look at the expansive bridge, called Toki-no-hiroba Plaza, connecting the North Gate and South Gate buildings.
It is decorated with two very large clocks, one gold, and one silver, and the plaza’s name 'Toki' is written with the characters for 'time' and 'space'. There is a café and bar in the middle of the plaza.
Floating above it all is the huge steel and glass slanted roof of the station. Below are broad views of the train tracks and eleven platforms.
Even if you have no reason to travel through it, Osaka Station City is genuinely a destination in its own right, and not necessarily for the sole purpose of shopping.
Its sparklingly clean surfaces of glass and steel reflect well on the country's orderly and efficient transportation systems and remarkable civil engineering that typifies Japan's modern big cities.
If you are in Osaka then I recommend adding Osaka Station City to your 'must-see' list.

JR Osaka Station (JR大阪駅), Umeda District, Osaka City
JR Osaka Station (JR大阪駅) is located in the northern part of central (or downtown) Osaka City in the Umeda district.
JR Osaka Station, along with Hankyu Umeda Station are the two stations that are considered the gateway to Osaka city. Tourists can come to either of these stations and then visit various spots in the downtown area using the subway lines.
This station is not to be mistaken with JR Shin-Osaka Station, which is located further north and primarily services the Shinkansen (Japanese Bullet Trains). JR Osaka Station does not have Shinkansen service.
Osaka, Japan - Osaka Station (2019)
Osaka Station (大阪駅 Ōsaka-eki) is a major railway station in the Umeda district of Kita-ku, Osaka, Japan, operated by West Japan Railway Company (JR West). It forms the city's main rail terminal in the north.
Although it is officially served by only the JR Kobe/Kyoto Lines (Tōkaidō Main Line) and the Osaka Loop Line, Osaka is the starting point of JR Takarazuka Line service, and serves as the terminal for trains bound for the San'in region via JR Takarazuka Line and the Hokuriku region via JR Kyoto Line, while offering connections to trains bound for Nara, Wakayama and Kansai International Airport via the Osaka Loop Line.
Umeda Station (Hankyu, Hanshin, and Osaka Metro Midosuji Line), Nishi-Umeda Station (Subway Yotsubashi Line) and Higashi-Umeda Station (Subway Tanimachi Line) are directly connected to Osaka Station, and Kitashinchi Station on the JR Tōzai Line is within walking distance.
Osaka Station and Umeda Station, effectively part of the same complex, together constitute the busiest station in Western Japan, serving 2,343,727 passengers daily in 2005, and the fourth-busiest railway station in the world.
Osaka Station also houses a large terminal for overnight bus services to other cities in Japan, and until March 2013 also had a nearby freight terminal complex, Umeda Freight Terminal, owned by JR Freight.
Osaka (Japanese: 大阪市 Hepburn: Ōsaka-shi, commonly just 大阪, Ōsaka) is a designated city in the Kansai region of Japan. It is the capital city of Osaka Prefecture and the largest component of the Keihanshin Metropolitan Area, the second largest metropolitan area in Japan and among the largest in the world with over 19 million inhabitants. Osaka will host Expo 2025. The current mayor of Osaka is Ichiro Matsui.

Guide to walking underground malls in Umeda, Osaka (With Strategy Map) #Osaka #sightseeing#dotonbori
There are complex, mysterious underground shopping malls in Umeda: the central city near Dotonbori or Shinsaibashi in Osaka.
Even local people hardly know the whole picture, and they are called Umeda dungeons .
This time, I walked three huge underground malls with nonstop.
It's about an hour's wonderful adventure.
Why do not you visit the cleanest and safest COOL JAPAN ?

(or some other troubles), it is at your own risk.

Please like & comment if you found this useful ^^
Umeda Station (Osaka,Japan) is amazing! After a busy day shopping and eating we found ourselves up on the 10th/14th floor of 'OSAKA STATION CITY' area admiring the amazing views (free) directly above Umeda Station. There is a convenience store, a few restaurants and shops also which face out towards the beautiful skyline of Osaka City. You will also see UMEDA SKY BUILDING & GRAND FRONT OSAKA from here *bonus*.
If only I knew of this place a long time ago.... its so refreshing and relaxing to come here and to get away from the craziness in the station. Alot of people were reading, chilling or eating snacks while soaking in some fresh air and the amazing view!
So keep this place in mind when you come to OSAKA (Umeda Station) next time! One of the BEST FREE THINGS TO DO & view points in Osaka.
Enjoy! ^^

Osaka Station is a large railway station located in Osaka's Umeda district (also called Kita) that is served by a large number of local and interregional trains, but not the shinkansen which stops at Shin-Osaka Station. The formerly dark and cramped station went through large scale renovation works, which completed in 2011. As a result, it was reborn as Osaka Station City, becoming one of Japan's most attractive railway stations.
The landmark of Osaka Station City is a large glass roof that spans over the railway tracks and gives the station a new wide open space. Newly constructed and renovated buildings on the north and south sides of the station offer to travelers a wide variety of shopping, dining, entertainment and recreation choices and are connected with each other by a wide bridge over the railway tracks.
The bridge connecting the north and south buildings is named Toki no Hiroba (Time and Space Plaza) and makes for a pleasant open space above the railway tracks allowing travelers to move from one side of the station to the other, take a rest watching trains. Travelers can access the railway tracks from the level just below the plaza.

Osaka, Japan - Shin-Osaka Station (2019)
Shin-Osaka Station (新大阪駅 Shin-Ōsaka-eki, literally New Osaka Station) is a railway station in Yodogawa-ku, Osaka, Japan. It is the western terminus of the high-speed Tōkaidō Shinkansen line from Tokyo, and the eastern terminus of the San'yō Shinkansen. The lines are physically joined, and many trains offer through service.
Shin-Osaka is about 3 km from the older Osaka Station. The new station was built in 1964 to avoid the engineering difficulties of running Shinkansen lines into the center of the city. The JR Kyoto Line and subway Midōsuji Line provide convenient connections to other stations around the city center.
