The Östra Södermanlands Järnväg (Ö.Sl.J.) is a narrow gauge railway in Mariefred Sweden. Steam- and dieselhauled passenger traffic are provided all days of the week during the summer. This film from July 2016 has several parts:

Östra Södermanlands Järnväg. In Sweden, near Stockholm, during the summerseason museumtrains drive daily with steam- and dieselloks on a line along a part of the Mälaren. Starting in Mariefred with castle Gripsholm the trains drive to Läggesta and Taxinge. In Taxinge ends the line, where you find a castle with the same name. The film shows trains on the whole line of over 10 km. Including shunting steam- and dieselengines at the stations. It takes some time to watcht. Thank you for watching.
Östra Södermanlands Järnväg. In Zweden in de buurt van Stockholm rijden in het zomerseizoen dagelijks museumtreinen met stoom- en dieselloks langs een uitloper van het watergebied Målaren. Vertrekkend in Mariefred met kasteel Gripsholm rijden de treinen naar Läggesta en Taxinge. In Taxinge ligt ook een kasteel. De film laat treinen zien op het gehele traject van ruim 10 km. Inclusief het rangeren op de stations. Met verzorging van de stoomloks. Bedankt voor het bekijken van de film.

Vom 18. bis 20. Juli 2016 besuchten wir die Östra Södermanlands Järnväg (ÖSIJ) in Schweden. Die ÖSIJ ist die älteste Museumseisenbahn Schwedens.
1963 wurde die Museiföreningen (Museumsvereinigung) Östra Södermanlands Järnväg gegründet, die den Streckenast von Läggesta nedre nach Mariefred seit 1966 und den Streckenast von Läggesta nedre nach Taxinge-Näsby seit 2011 betreibt.
Beide Strecken waren ursprünglich normalspurig und wurden nach Aufgabe des regulären Betriebes auf 600 mm Schmalspur umgespurt. Der Museumsvereinigung gelang es so, Lokomotiven, Waggons und andere Dinge von sieben kleinen schwedischen Schmalspurbahnen mit 600 mm Spurweite für die Nachwelt zu erhalten und zu restaurieren.
Unsere Videoaufnahmen und Fotos entstanden, wie immer, bei unseren Wanderungen entlang der Strecken durch eine reizvolle Landschaft, bei der auch oft der Mälaren zu sehen ist, der drittgrößte See Schwedens. Da das Wetter überdurchschnittlich gut war, konnten wir viele interessante Impressionen einfangen.
Sehenswert sind natürlich auch die Stadt Mariefred mit dem Schloss Gripsholm, bekannt durch Kurt Tucholskys Roman Schloß Gripsholm und das Schloss Taxinge, berühmt für sein Café mit dem größten Kuchenbuffet Europas mit Torten, Kuchen und Sandwiches.
Da es uns so gut bei der ÖSIJ gefallen hatte, u. a. auch deswegen, weil das Personal uns mit reichlich Informationen versorgte, uns ausführlich alle Lokschuppen besichtigen ließ und auch extra eine fahrplanmäßig nicht vorgesehene Doppelausfahrt in Läggesta nedre organisierte, besuchten wir die ÖSIJ am 26. Juli 2016 noch einmal.
Dieses Mal reisten wir stilecht mit dem 1903 gebauten Dampfschiff S/S Mariefred über den Mälaren an, das regelmäßig zwischen Stockholm und Mariefred sowie zwischen Mariefred und Taxinge pendelt. Die Dampferanlegestelle in Mariefred ist zugleich der Endpunkt der ÖSIJ, so dass man dort direkt von Dampf auf Dampf umsteigen kann.
Wir möchten ausdrücklich an dieser Stelle dem ehrenamtlichen Personal der Museumsvereinigung für die vielen Hinweise und die freundliche Unterstützung danken.

Gripsholm slottet, the Gripsholm castle is situated at Lake Mälaren in the small city of Mariefred. It is not that far away from Stockholm. Of course it's one of the castles belonging to the Swedish Royal family.
I was just able to shoot some picture from the outside as we then had to carry on our way to the next city in Sweden. Again there was a lot of rain and a sky coated in full bright grey light. Wähh! Better go there in sunshine if you have the choice.
In general, the outside parc area is quite cool and cozy - I haven't visited the interior apartments, but what I liked best was the dark castle basement. You will find there a souvenir shop - I know, nothing special, but the way down the stairs and dark underground light has something special.

Mariefred is a tiny and idyllic town on the coast of Mälaren straightly 50 km west of Stockholm. The Castle of Gripsholm, which is located just beside Mariefred, attracts many tourists to this city.
