Gordy and Lauren visit Oswald's Bear Ranch -- a black bear sanctuary -- near Newberry in Michigan's UP. Amazing people who run it. Happy bears who live there. Great experience for G & L.

Historic Tahqualand Theatre of Newberry, UP Michigan
This Ornate 1930's GEM of a theatre, started out as the STATE THEATRE.
Built during the depression in Newberry, Upper Peninsula of MI.
The Tahqua Land Theatre was closed and in severe disrepair when we (The Dunkeld's) bought it in 1972. After a year of cleaning coal dust and gum, updating wiring and plumbing, rebuilding projectors, installing projector equipment we opened in 1973. Operating continued until 2001, at which time we closed for extensive renovation.

Italian Artisans were brought in for 9 months of extensive redecorating. We didn't know digital conversion reformatting was baring down on us at twice the stated speed. Nobody comprehended this, nor the exurbanite cost to convert. After installing state of the art rocker seating, the theatre re-opened in 2003.
Going Digital
We are born optimists otherwise we sure wouldn't be in business. In keeping with Kickstarter requirements, if Tahqua-Land Theatre's campaign, Digital or Die cannot raise 100% of the needed funding within the allotted time period, the Kickstarter organization does not collect the money for the project on behalf of the theatre, therefore no charges to anyone's credit card will be made.
Along with going digital to stay open, we will also be able to offer movie-goers alternate content. We'll be able to show a new genre of movie types like: sports, comedy, live events, etc...offer the theatre goer big city entertainment to a small town.
There is nothing that compares with being a part of a theatre full of laughing little kids or screaming girls or teary eyed patrons leaving knowing that they will be back soon for different adventures into the past, present and future.
The Tahqua Land Theatre is located in Newberry, situated in the heart of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. We are the only theatre located within 70 miles of our location.
Our immediate project is the digital projector upgrade, updating the screen and tweaking the sound system. Any excess monies will then go towards energy efficient heating to upgrade our 83 year old system. Because of our freezing climate, the theatre roof also needs attention. If the needed funds are not raised, The Tahqua Land Theatre will then have no choice but to close its historic doors and Go Dark. We thank you in advance for your support and help.
We want to thank you and give you our sincerest appreciation for your help and support for this project. Please pass along this information to a friend. For more historical information click on our Facebook page at: facebook.com/tahquatheatre

Rushing Waters at Tahquamenon Falls
Josh thought it'd be fun to go to the falls at the Lower Falls of Tahquamenon. The water was really high this year and the water was fast! We eventually made it to that break of falls, but it look a while not being able to see the rocks below our feet!
