-- About this video --
We’re in the New Zealand city of Dunedin! Today’s Dunedin travel activity is the classic city activity in going to a museum. This one is the Otago Museum which is not only a free thing to do in Dunedin (although some exhibitions you pay for) it’s also one of the things to do on a rainy day in Dunedin.
We walk to the Otago Museum which is within walking distance of Dunedin city centre. The museum is home to lots of fascinating displays that will keep you entertained for at least a couple of hours. It goes over the Pacific Cultures, Maori history in the South Island, European settlers, wildlife in the Otago region including New Zealand’s largest fossil, and “Animal Attic” a taxidermy land going through the evolution of animals according to Victorian theory. One of our highlights in the Otago Museum is the Butterfly Garden in the Otago Museum.
So what do you think of the Otago Museum? Would you add museum in New Zealand to your Dunedin itinerary when travelling New Zealand? LUK in the comments.

Otago Museum, Dunedin
Otago Museum is a popular spot in Dunedin for kids and adults alike. There are a lot of galleries and one can easily spend a few hours here with the family. The themes of these galleries are varied including:
1. Tangata Whenua (Maori people and artifacts)
2. Pacific cultures
3. Science centre that also houses the planetarium and a butterfly enclosure
4. Animal attic
5. Southern land and people
6. People of the world
7. Maritime exhibits
While most galleries are free, there are some special galleries which would required some additional fee. Also, there is a charge to visit the science centre and the planetarium.
It also has an excellent cafe and a souvenir shop. This is an excellent place for the whole family to enjoy. A highly recommended place for a rainy/windy day in Dunedin!

Otago Museum Tropical Forest Compilation Video
The Tropical Forest in the Otago Museum (Dunedin, New Zealand) perfectly mimicked the tropical conditions under which butterflies thrive. The giant banana plant in the middle of the forest provides both food and habitat for the gorgeous butterflies.
