Otaru, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Hokkaido, is symbolized by the Otaru Canal. In recent years, the number of tourists from overseas has also increased, making it a popular area along with Hakodate City in Hokkaido. The Otaru area is full of beautiful scenery and delicious food where red bricks stand out, so you won’t get tired even if you take your time all day.
The Otaru Canal is a spot where you can enjoy the historic scenery that supported the shipping of Hokkaido, completed in 1923. This is one of the highlights of Hokkaido sightseeing that you should definitely visit. The attraction is, of course, the beautiful scenery of old-fashioned, nostalgic canal buildings.

HOKKAIDO - A day in Otaru・小樽 (Japan Travel Vlog #2)
Spent a day in a little town called Otaru in Hokkaido. First we stopped by the Music Box Museum and then had some fun in the snow! At night we decided to stop by the well-known canal (which was nice but kind of over-hyped). I would recommend this place as a fun day trip from Sapporo :)

This is a short video of a rickshaw ride we took in our port stop in Otaru, Japan. Our ride was listed at 12 minutes for 4,000 yen, which is around $37 US. It was alittle longer than that. They offered longer rides for more money. A half hour was 9,000 yen ($82 US).
