Whitewater Rafting - Ottawa River, Ontario, Canada
We went Whitewater River Rafting down the Ottawa River in Forester Falls, Ontario with RiverRun Rafting. They took some video footage of us on the rapids that we edited down to show the two of us. We flipped over quite a few times into the water and had some extreme adventures!

Ottawa River | Family Travel In Canada
There is nothing better than travelling with your family in Canada. One of my cherished memories is spending time on the Ottawa river with my family who settled here in the 70s. Summer times are wonderful, but the magic happens in the winter when the river ices over and you can travel along the ice to visit the neighbouring communities and see all the natural wonders of this incredible Canadian Shield.
If you have never been to the Ottawa River, it would be well worth your time to take a look online and see the history of how important this Ottawa river has been in the settling of this part of Canada.
Steamship travel was an important part of people getting around this part of the world in the 19th century and into the 20th century.
I hope you enjoy this short vignette following myself and my family as we explore the beauty and wonder of what is Canada.
Intrepid Cottager Sea-Doo Tour: Ottawa River, Ontario, Canada
Our Ottawa River Sea Doo Tour Blast in Ontario came off without a hitch thanks to some great planning and cooperation from tourism folks at Ottawa Valley, Mattawa and Temiskaming Shores. Even Mother Nature lent a hand with good weather, so we were a weary but ecstatic crew after 4-days and 650 km of Sea-Doo touring (+50 more riding for the cameras!)
We launched from Pembroke Marina after staying overnight at the Best Western Pembroke. I really like this as a staging hotel because it's a full service with the Westwinds Restauranton site and has lots of parking for trucks and trailers by the back door close to rooms. It's located only seven minutes from the marina and gas is right across the road. Thanks to Lorraine for the welcome dinner and great hospitality!

Valois Motel, Mattawa
Our second night (and last overnight on the return trip) was at the Valois Motel & Restaurant, Mattawa. Since we arrived on the water, the riverside Valois is handy because it offers free docking, so we just tied up and walked a few yards to our rooms. Everyone raved about their home cooked meals and went ga-ga for their desserts like brownies and apple crisp! Bryan and his staff made us feel right at home!
The northern-most point of our PWC journey was Temiskaming Shores, where we stayed at the charming President's Suites, just a few blocks from the Haileybury Marina where we docked overnight. Our friendly hosts, Jocelyn and Nicole, shuttled us to their fabulous place, a classic mansion with modern amenities and even a hot tub. Their cuisine was out of this world!
If our lodgings were second to none, the mighty Ottawa was the star of the show. This historic and spectacular route is the original gateway to Northern Ontario used by native peoples, fur traders, loggers and miners to open the North and bring new found prosperity. Now, this easily navigable and well-serviced waterway is also an incomparable attraction for PWC riders and boaters looking for an exciting new wilderness adventure. So get your ass in gear and head to the Ottawa for the water experience of a lifetime!
Now that you know about it, no excuses, eh? All you have to do is use our itinerary as your template and check out my video of a previous trip, too -- and keep an eye on this site because there's much more story, video and photos to come!
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada - Rideau Canal Locks in Operation HD (2015)
The Rideau Canal, also known unofficially as the Rideau Waterway, connects the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, on the Ottawa River to the city of Kingston, Ontario, on Lake Ontario. It is 202 kilometres in length. The name Rideau, French for curtain, is derived from the curtain-like appearance of the Rideau River's twin waterfalls where they join the Ottawa River. The canal system uses sections of two rivers, the Rideau and the Cataraqui, as well as several lakes. The Rideau Canal is operated by Parks Canada.
The canal was opened in 1832 as a precaution in case of war with the United States. It remains in use today primarily for pleasure boating, with most of its original structures intact, operated by Parks Canada. The locks on the system open for navigation in mid-May and close in mid-October. It is the oldest continuously operated canal system in North America, and in 2007 it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada - Rideau Falls HD (2015)
The Rideau Falls are two waterfalls located in Ottawa, Canada where the Rideau River empties into the Ottawa River. The falls are divided by Green Island, with the Old City Hall just to the south. To the west of the falls is the headquarters of the National Research Council while to the east are the Canada and the World Pavilion and the French Embassy. The falls were named by the early French for their resemblance to a curtain, or rideau in French. The Rideau River was later named after the falls. The Rideau Canal was constructed to bypass these falls and the Hog's Back Falls.
Ottawa River Ice Capades
On Jan. 27, 2018 a car went through the ice on the Ottawa river at Constance Bay. They were lucky to be alive.

Ottawa Drone Flight: Ottawa is Canadas capital, in the east of southern Ontario, near the city of Montréal and the U.S. border. Sitting on the Ottawa River, it has at its centre Parliament Hill, with grand Victorian architecture and museums such as the National Gallery of Canada, with noted collections of indigenous and other Canadian art. The park-lined Rideau Canal is filled with boats in summer and ice-skaters in winter. Rideau Canal is also the hub of the annual Winterlude festival. The modernist National Arts Centre has resident orchestra and theatre companies. North of the river, the Canadian Museum of History has a Grand Hall displaying totem poles made by Canadas First Peoples as well as a separate Childrens Museum. Downtowns Byward Market is known for its vibrant restaurant, bar and live-music scenes. The Wellington West neighbourhood is home to galleries, food specialists and quirky shops. North of downtown, Gatineau Park offers hiking and cycling trails, cross-country skiing areas and bird-watching habitat. [wikipedia // Google]

Canada has some incredible beaches and one of them is in the Ottawa River. The Sandbar is a small spit of land where the locals all bring their boats in the summer. I love this beautiful country.
