The Oum Er-Rbia river.
Oum Er-Rbia (Arabic: أم الربيع, the mother of springtime; Berber: Wansifen, وانسيفن, the one of the rivers; Portuguese: rio Morbeia) is a large, long and high-throughput river in central Morocco.
The river is 555 kilometres (345 mi) long. With an average water throughput of 105 m3/s, Oum Er-Rbia is the second-largest river in Morocco after the Sebou River. It originates in the Middle Atlas and passes through the city of Khénifra, arriving at its mouth at the Atlantic Ocean at the port of Azemmour, located on its left bank. Oum Er-Rbia has six dams, the most important of which is Al Massira Dam. Its most important tributaries are El-Abid River, Tessaoute River, and Lakhdar River.
The historical Berber nickname of the river was Asif n Isaffen, meaning the river of rivers.
Oum Er-Rbia is fed by a large number of groundwater springs. The area near its headwaters is called The Forty Springs as a result, although that is a poetic term rather than an exact count.

Azemmour or Azamor (Berber: Azemmur, meaning: olive; Portuguese: Azamor) is a Moroccan city, lying at the Atlantic ocean coast, on the left bank of the Oum Er-Rbia River, 75 km southwest of Casablanca.
Coasting in Morocco; Azemmour and the Riad Azama
One of the best off the beaten path destinations in Morocco is the town of Azemmour located along the Atlantic coast just north of El Jadida. It is a small town with few tourists that feels like the real Morocco. There is an exceptional riad here in which to make your base while visiting this overlooked yet charming town.
The Portuguese built the town tow miles inland along the Oum er Rbia river as a fortified trading post in 1513. The Portuguese also built the circuit of large ochre walls around the medina which was heavily damaged thanks to the massive Lisbon earthquake of 1755 that sent a tsunami upriver wiping out much of the town. Azemmour looks like it has been neglected and overlooked for a long time, however, the faded and crumbling aspect of the town are part of its appeal. There is a nearby beach as well as the very interesting city of El Jadida nearby.
Except for two riads there are no tourists restaurants or facilities. One of the riads, however, is reason enough to stay in Azemmour. The Riad Azama is an 18th century traditional home handsomely restored with 6 rooms located around a lovely court yard. This is one of the most beautiful Riads we have seen in Morocco.

Oued Oum Errabia, Maroc.wmv

Football on the Beaches of Azzemour
On our first weekend trip after arriving in Rabat, I traveled with a group of friends by train down the coastline to Azemmour and El Jadida. On the left bank of the Oum Er-Rbia River, Azemmour was an important principality in the early struggles against colonialists. Occupied in 1486 by the Portuguese, Azemmour and the neighboring city of El Jedida would eventually revolt against the Portuguese in 1513. The skirmish lasted for nearly thirty years, until the Portuguese abandoned their campaign in 1541. Today, Azemmour is known for its street art and surfing beaches. Youth play football on the beaches, while families camp just past the tide level.

Flume of the Oum er-Rbia
Taken March 31st, 2011, by Mitch Virchick at Oum-er-Rabia, the mother of spring a bit west (80 km?) of Khenifra in the middle Atlas. The Berber natives have built platforms along the flume, which comes roaring out of the surrounding hillsides. They'll serve you a full tajine and Moroccan tea. Cost about 100 dh.
