alter-NATIVE Ep. 6 Owning Our Narrative as Native Women
It's time for the big runway fashion show and pop-up shop showing off B.Yellowtail's new summer line, and as press coverage increases so too do Bethany's nerves.
Like this series? Start it from the beginning:
Native models from all over America help show off the amazing threads, while actor pal Martin Sensmeier, Sundance Institute's Bird Runningwater, and Navajo/Apache/Paiute poet Tazbah Rose Chavez drop by to honor the designer's work. In her own words, Bethany's line acknowledges our ancestors, but also our present--it tells the story of indigenous women now. It's also ME!

Indigenous tourism is a key economic driver in generating long-term social and economic benefits for Indigenous people and for all Canadians. It represents one of the fastest growing segments of the overall tourism industry in British Columbia. The Strategic Partnerships Initiative (SPI) supports Indigenous participation in major economic opportunities throughout the country, including in the tourism sector.

What Banff is Like in the Rocky Mountains of Canada
While visiting our family in Calgary, Alberta, we explored Banff and nearby Lake Louise and even a horse jumping competition. Alberta is the heart of Canada's cowboy culture with the plains being back-splashed by the majestic Rocky Mountains carving the horizon. This area has been populated for a very long time before the Europeans came by Canada's First Nations. Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump by the Blood Reserve in Southern Alberta is an example of a past where the cliffs were used to kill bison that were used by families for meat, and other parts were cleverly used for tools and clothing as well, so the life of the felled creature is well respected. A land with an interesting culture as diverse as it's landscape.
