A Tour Group Meets, Greets, and Eats in Tirana, Albania
ex-Marine and Travels With Sheila had joined an Outdoor Albania tour group, all staying at Hotel Seven in Tirana, where the trip would begin. We'd begin with an intensive, and extensive, week in South Albania before heading into the mountains of North Albania for a second week.
A friendly group from Holland, us token Americans and guide, Florian from Albania, had a meet, greet and went for dinner, passing by the important sights of Tirana.

An Evening in Durres, Albania
A brief and whirlwind week in South Albania ended with dinner along the Adriatic sea. How idyllic is that! Sitting at a table in the late afternoon sun, watching the fishermen setting out to tend their nets, drinking a glass of Montenegro wine, of all things, while the sun sets slowly into the sea.
The Outdoor Albania bus drove the short distance back to Tirana for one night and tomorrow, eight days in North Albania would begin with a chance to hike and explore remote destinations. It doesn't get much better than this...

Tirana, Albania - Travel Around The World | Top best places to visit in Tirana
Top best places to visit in Tirana, Albania
Tirana is the capital and largest city of Albania.
Tirana, the center of the political, economical, and cultural life, was dubbed the City of Kiosks” for the many small-scale shops and outdoor cafes always full of people.
The Skanderbeg Square is the central and the largest square of the city, named after Albanian hero whose statue stands in the middle.
The Square features great buildings, such as:
The National Historic Museum, the main museum in Tirana
The Opera and Ballet Theater, and the Et'hem Bey Mosque, one of the most impressive mosques in the country.
West of Skanderbeg Square is the brand new Resurrection of Christ Orthodox Cathedral, featuring rich interior iconography.
South of Skanderbeg Square extends panoramic boulevard with several government buildings and cultural institutions.
In the vicinity of the boulevard, on the recently opened pedestrian street, are located:
The National Theater, the main theater in Albania.
A 6-meter remnant from the Ottoman-era, the Tirana Castle Walls.
And an exhibition hall hosting Albanian and socialist art, the National Art Gallery.
Across the boulevard is the Rinia Park and the Taiwan Complex, popular spot among Albanian celebrities.
And going more to the south is the Lana River, the city’s main stream.
On the other side of the river along the boulevard are situated:
More municipal and national government buildings.
The Pyramid, originally a museum, today a derelict structure untouched for years.
A cold war installation, the Postbllok, a checkpoint featuring concrete pillars from prison camp and an original bunker.
The Former Residence of Enver Hoxha, the communist leader of Albania.
The Palace of Congresses, a venue where numerous festivals and events are held.
And the Mother Teresa Square.
The square is surrounded by:
the Archaeological Museum, the University of Tirana and the Academy of Arts.
Behind this square starts the Grand Park, a popular green area perfect to walk around and enjoy an artificial lake.
The Statue of Mother Albania stands not far away from the park, in the Martyrs' Cemetery. From there is a beautiful view of the city.
Go to the top floor of the Sky Tower for an even better view of the downtown of Tirana.

The majority of journalists around the world have chosen to develop their subject on controversial and sensational themes: violence, war, crime. But all these facts represent only 1% of our world and its inhabitants, forgetting the remaining 99% of which we never speak.
I chose to visit every country on the planet and film them to present them in High Definition format but in a raw way, without music, without comment. Simply, reality in all its truth. Thus, you will be able to make your own idea of the world in which you live.
Currently, I have already visited nearly 170 countries and my world tour continues thanks to you who follow me.

On the way from Saranda to Butrint and very near the coast, one finds the three small Islands of KsamiI. The picturesque spot offers a good opportunity for a refreshing swim or a satisfying lunch in local fisherman restaurants.

PEAKS of the BALKANS in the Albanian Alps (Budget Travel Albania) {Theth, ALBANIA}
Budget Travel Albania #9
The most challenging section of the tri-nation Peaks of the Balkans Trail, the 15 kilometres from Theth to Valbona passes through the scenic Albanian Alps.
By overcoming steep grades, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of rocky mountain tops and lush valleys. There are even numerous spots to pick wild edible fruit.
Hike with Matt as he traverses this gorgeous northern Albanian landscape, hoping the rain will not damper the day.

From The Alps of North Albania to Tirana
Outdoor Albania's original itinerary called for a trek on the Path of The Sheep down towards the direction of Boga, but guide, Florian, changed the plans. Instead, the same uncomfortable van with driver Pashko would drive the group up to the pass where they'd begin walking down. The drive would then continue to Boga, rest stop, keep going to Shkodra, change vans again, ending up Tirana later today.
The end of not only the North Albania Alps but also two weeks spent in beautiful, friendly Albania. A few Leks left to spend, ex-Marine and I made a fast run over to the flea market rather than turning the Leks back in at the airport.

We had heard a lot of good things about the Albanian Alps, so of course we had to go there. We started off taking the ferry up Lake Komani, then tackled the beautiful Valbona to Theth hike.

Cycling in Albania
Rivers, seashores and mountains come to life when you are on a bike, Ernest Hemingway said. “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.”
Outdoor Albania, the pioneer of the sector, has chosen roads with little or no traffic at all, allowing to enjoy and discover the Albanian ride to the fullest.
Hiking and Black Cave Exploration of Pellumbas Tirana Albania
The Cave of Pellumbas, or the Black Cave (Shpelle e Zezë), is about an hour hike outside the village of Pellumbas. The cave itself is approximately 360 meters deep, and inside are impressive stalagmites and stalactites, as well as bats flying around the cave. The inside of the cave is completely dark after single upon entrance. 40,000 years ago the cave was a home to ancient cave bears. It was later used as a settlement for ancient humans during the Middle Paleolithic period. During the World Wars, the cave was kept secret and used as a hiding spot for the villagers.
