Spotlight on April Link of Outer Coast Outfitters (Prince Rupert)
April Link of Prince Rupert, British Columbia had a strong connection to the outdoors, and craved the freedom to do what she loved while raising her young family. She and her husband, Chris Ridler, a member of the Tsimshian First Nations Community, achieved that dream when they co-founded Outer Coast Outfitters, an outdoor education, guiding and rental company. Fishing BC Presents: Port Hardy with Tides and Tales Sport Fishing Adventures
There’s few places on the West Coast that can put an angler onto fighting salmon just seven minutes from the dock.
That’s the allure of Port Hardy, a small community tucked into a deep inlet on the north coast of Vancouver Island. This is the last stop on Highway 19 and the wildness is apparent. Diving eagles and breaching whales blend with old-growth forests and steep rocky shores to paint an unbelievable picture of nature at its best.
For Mike Kelly, the owner of Tides and Tales, the allure of the place is also about its variety.
“You leave the dock early in the morning and head out into Queen Charlotte Straight, and that’s where the predictions end. Every day is totally different,” he says. “It’s the variety that keeps me coming back.”
From salmon to halibut, the opportunities to connect with wild fish abound.
“This really is a fish highway,” he says. “It’s one of the best salmon fishing spots on the West Coast.”

Fishing BC Presents: Vancouver Fishing Charters with Pacific Angler
From urban culture to the wilds of the Pacific Ocean, Vancouver has it all ‘Like stepping back in time’
The beauty of B.C. is that few places are far from the ocean and salmon. Vancouver is no different, and visitors to the province’s largest city have the chance to experience the best of urban culture and wild sport fishing in a one-stop destination.
Jason Tonelli developed his love for fishing with his family — his grandfather taught him to fish for trout on B.C.’s interior lakes — and his business is a family experience as well. He operates Pacific Angler with others in his family, including his sister. His team of guides also becomes part of the family, making the experience of going to work more vacation than chore.
His boats and guides prowl the straights and islands off the southern coast, connecting anglers to the millions of migrating salmon that pass by en route to the rivers of their birth.
“Within five to 25 minutes of leaving the City of Vancouver, it’s like stepping back in time. What a great place to carry out the passion of fishing,” he says.

Prince William Sound Spot Prawns
There’s great shrimping across Alaska and along the coast of British Columbia. And, it’s no secret the most important vehicle to success when shrimping is having good bait. Shrimp are scent feeders. The more scent you put down deep the better chance you have of full pots of shrimp. Poor bait brings limited success. Strong scent, like that crammed into Crab N Shrimp Fuel, boosts catch rates as you'll see in this episode of Pautzke Outdoors.
Tim Bouchard of Valdez Outfitters has always shrimped for spot prawns in Alaska’s Prince William Sound and historically used shrimp pellets with ok success. Meanwhile, the last few years he's been brining those pellets in Crab N Shrimp Fuel and seen increased catches likely due to the stronger and longer lasting scent trail that comes with using the Fuel.
You can use the Fuel on any medium. Crab N Shrimp Fuel is designed to absorb into carcasses, cut bait and manufactured baits to create a longer lasting and more potent scent trail. When shrimping or chasing spot prawns, many people like to use salmon or halibut carcasses because they are cheaper than buying pellets. On the other hand, shrimp pellets or any manufactured shrimp bait bring success, too. The key is soaking these baits in the Fuel overnight to enhance them and get the most of out them.
