Small Town Transformations | Ouyen
OUYEN: MALLEE UP IN LIGHTS
In the heart of Ouyen is the iconic Roxy Theatre, The Jewel of the Mallee. It’s also the central point for Ouyen’s transformation, creating a vibrant centre for the town through art, architecture and landscape for a new public space. What began as a focus on one site rapidly stimulated satellite projects that built a strong creative momentum.
In 2012 Small Town Transformations invited Victorians to think big about how art could transform their town.

AVOCA: THE GARDEN OF FIRE AND WATER
Connecting history, community and a sense of place was essential to Avoca’s transformation. In collaboration with landscapers, historians and artists, a garden has been created celebrating Avoca’s Chinese heritage. The Garden of Fire and Water speaks to more than just the history of the area; it has started a broader discussion in the small community about inclusivity and cultural legacy.

Mortlake community meeting to discuss the wind farm. Autumn 2012
Mortlake, Victoria, Australia. In April 2012 a community meeting was put together by locals to discuss the Acciona Mortlake South wind farm proposal. Spanish company Acciona stated to the media prior to the meeting that there was overwhelming community support for the wind farm project. However, this was NOT the reality as can be seen here. Other communities already living near wind farms or with wind farms coming were also invited to attend as was Dr. Sarah Laurie from the Waubra Foundation. Acciona also own and operate the Waubra wind farm near Ballarat. It is understood that David Clarke no longer works for Acciona.
