Hermanus - The best city to spot whales. I was lucky enough to visit this amazing city, but was not able to sight any whales at the end of 2017. Anyway, this is a beautiful place to visit on your way to cape town or Johannesburg.

Swellendam is the 4th oldest town in South Africa. It has over 50 provincial heritage sites, most of them buildings of Cape Dutch architecture.

Phillipi East Protest - 28 May 2015

Police and protesters clashed along Stock Road and Sheffield Road in Phillipi East today. Police fired rubber bullets and teargas, and protesters retaliated with stones.

This after protesters set alight an ANC Ward councillors home, a municipal building, four trucks and four bakkies earlier in the day.
The viioolence follows after protest action last night which led to the death of a man who was struck by a brick while driving along the N2 highway.

According to police spokeperson Col Andre Traut, the protest is service delivery related, and eight arrests have been made on charges of arson and public violence.

Caledon 25 - Presentation

Our group of first year Stellenbosch university Health Sciences students went on an Amazing Race to find out more about the health systems, conditions and determinants of health in the Western Cape tow of Caledon. This presentation shows our findings and our first hand experiences of Caledon.

Val du Charron Wine & Olive Farm

As my friend Kerry and I continue with our Cape Winelands Adventure, we arrive at Val du Charron Wine and Olive Farm, just outside the historic town of Wellington, in the Western Cape Province of South Africa.

Nestled in the Bovlei Valley, the farm dates back to 1699 and takes much of its inspiration for its wines from local valley characters and legend. We were privileged to meet the Black Countess while on the farm, after hearing much about her during our stay.

Accommodation at Val du Charron is through either the 4-star guesthouse or 5-star luxury suites, located in the Coach House. Each luxury suite has its own plunge pool and private patio, perfect for enjoying some Black Countess while taking in the stunning mountain vistas.

Flood warnings issued for some areas of Johannesburg

Capetonians are breathing a collective sigh of relief after much needed rain over the Mother City. The South African Weather Service has forecast heavy rain for parts of the Western Cape. Rainfall has also been forecast for the Overberg and Eden districts but is expected to clear by tomorrow afternoon. Flood warnings have been issued for some areas of Johannesburg.
