Best way to spend a day in Hakone | Hakone free pass - Round Course
Hakone (箱根) is part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, less than one hundred kilometers from Tokyo.
Famous for hot springs, natural beauty and the view across Lake Ashinoko of nearby Mount Fuji, Hakone is one of the most popular destinations among Japanese and international tourists looking for a break from Tokyo.
The Hakone Free Pass by Odakyu Railways is a discount pass for exploring Hakone. It provides unlimited use of Odakyu-affiliated buses, trains, boats, cablecars and ropeways in the Hakone area and discounted admission to selected tourist attractions on two or three consecutive days. Optionally, the pass also includes a discounted round trip from Tokyo's Shinjuku Station.
popular and attractive way of visiting Hakone is by circling the region with five different means of transport (train, cablecar, ropeway, boat and bus), using the Hakone Free Pass.
The round course outlined below starts and ends in Hakone-Yumoto and circles the Hakone region in the counter-clockwise direction. Of course, it is also possible to follow the course in the opposite direction or to start and end somewhere different.
If you leave early in the morning, it is possible to completed the Hakone round course in a one day trip from Tokyo. However, we recommend allocating two days and one night to your visit, preferably with a stay at a ryokan with hot spring baths.

Kanagawa Owakudani - 大涌谷 - 4K Ultra HD
Kanagawa Owakudani - 大涌谷 - 4K Ultra HD : Owakudani is an area around a crater created during Mt Hakone's last eruption some 3,000 years ago. Today Owakudani is still an active volcanic zone where sulfurous fumes, hot rivers and hot springs are heavily present. Despite being a very famous tourist attraction where were you can enjoy, in some safe zones, a gorgeous view of Owakudani fumes and Mt. Fuji, the place also offers you the chance to purchase eggs naturally cooked in one of Owakudani's hot water springs. The eggshells are blackened by the sulfur and are said, according to local folklore, to prolong your life by a good seven years.
Unfortunately and as for today, Owakudani is currently closed due to an increase in seismic activity that, according to scientists, could lead to a volcanic eruption.

Volcanic activity in Ōwakudani (大涌谷), Hakone (箱根町), Japan (日本)
Sulphur vents in Ōwakudani (大涌谷) seen from our travel bus during our trip to Hakone (箱根町), Japan (日本) on Friday, Sept. 18, 2015.
Ōwakudani (大涌谷, meaning 'Great Boiling Valley') is a volcanic valley with active sulphur vents and hot springs in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture (神奈川県), Japan. It is a popular tourist site for its scenic views, volcanic activity, and especially, Kuro-tamago (黒卵, meaning 'black egg') — a local specialty of eggs hard-boiled in the hot springs. The boiled eggs turn black and smell slightly sulphuric, and consuming the eggs is said to increase longevity. Eating one is said to add seven years to your life.
Access to Ōwakudani is via a funitel, the Hakone Ropeway There is also a road to a visitor's center just below the Kuro-tamago hot springs site. The funitel offers a vast view of both Mount Fuji on clear days and the sulphur vents just below the visitor's center. The tourist site in Ōwakudani was closed in May 2015 due to volcanic activity and reopened on April 27, 2016.
Hakone (箱根町/Hakone-machi) is a town in Ashigarashimo District in Kanagawa Prefecture. Hakone has been designated as a Geopark by UNESCO. Most of the town is within the borders of the volcanically active Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park (富士箱根伊豆国立公園), centered on Lake Ashi (芦ノ湖/Ashi-no-ko).
The Hakone Tozan Railway (箱根登山鉄道/Hakone Tozan Tetsudō) is a private railway company in Japan, part of the Odakyu Group. It is best known for its operation of the Hakone Tozan Line, the first mountain railway in Japan, but like most Japanese railway companies, also operates bus service, namely Hakone Tozan Bus. It also operates the connecting Hakone Tozan Cable Car.
The Hakone Tozan Line consists of two sections: a lower section from Odawara to Hakone-Yumoto, and an upper section from Hakone-Yumoto to Gōra. At Gōra, a cable car is available to transfer visitors to and from Lake Ashi.

【4K】Failed walk at Owakudani Hakone
2 weeks ago I tried to get to Hakone and it was epic fail. I spend about 5 hours in lines just to get to the lake from Odawara station.
At 4pm I just got to Owakudani. Unfortunately all walking ways were closed. So in 4 min I walked it whole.
When I got to the lake it was pitch dark, drone I was carrying became useless.
Filmed in UltraHD 4K 60p with Lumix GH5 camera, 8-18 f2.8-4 lens, Beholder EC1 stabilizer and Audio-Technica AT9946CM mic.
Feel free to correct my English or suggest a video to film.

[Japan by train] Hakone Free Pass •
Get on the train and travel through the beautiful Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, 100 km in the west of Tokyo.
The Hakone Free Pass - provided by Odakyu Railways - allows you to ride (almost) all trains, ropeways and sightseeing boats in the Hakone area.
0:00
We're taking an express service on the Odakyu Odawara Line and leaving the metropolis of Tokyo and his suburban area. After arriving in Odawara we have to change to the Hakone Tozan Railway towards Hakone-Yumoto and further to Gora.
2:24
After changing once again in Yumoto - a place full of hot springs (onsen) - the Tozan Railway pass through a beautiful mountainous landscape with many tunnels and so called switch-backs (zig zag).
The valley becomes more and more narrower until the little train reachs his terminus in Gora where we're taking the Hakone Cable Car up towards Mount Sounzan.
7:23
Without guessing what follows the travel goes on by the Hakone Ropeway to Owakudani, the highest point of this trip. Owakudani means Great Boiling Valley, it smells of sulfur and other volcanic gases and you can eat some Kuro-tamago - black hard-boiled eggs, that should prolong the life of 7 years.
On the second section of the Hakone Ropeway we're going down towards Togendai next to Lake Ashi, where our sightseeing boat is waiting for us to depart for Hakonemachi and Moto-Hakone.
Finally you can see the red Torii of the Hakone shrine which is placed on a hill high above the lake.
Slowly the day is coming to an end, the clouds are getting more and the bus for Yumoto is ready to leave.
Until we're finally arriving at Tama-Plaza (→ my residence ;) ) it will already be dark night.

Japan - Day Trip to HAKONE (1080p HD) | Magda T
DAY TRIP TO HAKONE:
Hakone is well known for being an Onsen (hot spring) haven in Japan. It’s a short train journey away from Tokyo so it makes a perfect destination for a day trip. When visiting an onsen, you need to follow a specific etiquette – in majority of them, no clothes or tattoos are allowed! If you don’t feel comfortable being naked, Hakone Kowakien Yunessun is a ‘swimsuit wearing’ onsen and some of them permit band-aids over tattoos.
As we only had one day, we skipped the onsen experience but there is always another time!
GETTING THERE FROM TOKYO:
• Using HAKONE FREE PASS (2 days pass for Y5.140) can be purchased from ticket vending machines at all Odakyu line stations and also at Shinjuku station West Exit 1F at Odakyu Sightseeing Service centre.
• Take Odakyu Railway to Odawara and change there to Hakone Tozan Train – price of the return ticket is included into the Hakone Free Pass which also covers all the transport in the Hakone area and discounted prices on entry fees to majority of the attractions & restaurants
• From Shinjuku station to Hakone-Yumoto on the ODAKYU ROMANCE CAR (express train 75 mins) with reserved seats but need to buy a supplementary ticket for Y1.090 to addition to regular train tickets - can be purchased at the same places as the pass & also online
OUR ITINERARY:

????Taking Hakone Tozan Railway at Hakone-Yumoto to Chokoku-no-mori (for better views seat on the left hand side)
????Hakone Open Air Museum (make sure to have mini ‘onsen’ foot bath there)
????Taking Hakone Tozan Cable Car from Gora to Sounzan Station - it was a short 5-10 mins walk from the museum to Gora – if you are not short of time you can visit the Hakone Gora Park (free access with the pass)
????Taking the cable car (Hakone Ropeway) from Sounzan to Owakudani (only 9 minute ride)
????The Great Boiling Valley at Owakudani – explore the volcanic valley up in the mountain with active sulphur springs and try their signature black eggs (kuro-tamago). Legend holds that eating one of these eggs can extend your life by 7 years!
????Take the Hakone Ropeway to Togendai (when we visited that part of the ropeway was under construction and replacement busses were running instead)
????Pirate ship cruise across Lake Ashi from Togendai (free with the Hakone Pass) - from Togendai walk down to the edge of the lake to the cruise pier (timetable can be found here ) - great views of the Kuzuryu & Hakone Shrines.

Carnet de voyage de 15jours au Japon :
2018 Hakone Travel Video (TMV)
A tranquil retreat, Hakone provides a pretty relaxing weekend getaway that is less than 2 hours away from the Tokyo metropolis. Or take the Odakyu Limited Express Romance Car and go from Shinjuku to Hakone-Yumoto in 75 minutes. Definitely get the Hakone Freepass for easier travel around area. We stayed at the Mountain View Hakone for their outdoor Onsen, convenient location off a Hakone Bus Stop, and delicious meals. We started our Hakone trip by doing the Hakone loop counter clockwise. Starting at Gora, we took the Hakone Cable Car towards Sounzan for the Ropeway. When you get to the top you can exit the station for a spectacular view of the valley below. Go back into the station to take the Ropeway to Owakudani for black boiled eggs cooked in the sulfur hot springs. Remember to add a little salt to the egg that’s included in the bag of eggs. Here you'll find a museum and lots of souvenir shops. Also check out the gorgeous view of Mount Fuji (富士山), assuming it isn't blocked by clouds. From here, catch the Ropeway to Lake Ashinoko (芦ノ湖) to take the pirate ships to the other side of the lake. Reminded me of One Piece when I rode these ships. Then take a stroll around the Hakone Machi-ko area. Hit the Hakone Tokaido Checkpoint for some interesting history. Then walk over to Onshihakone Park (恩賜箱根公園) for an amazing view of Lake Ashinoko especially from the 弁天の鼻展望台 observation deck. Later, make your way along the tree-lined paths, cross the Ashigawa Bridge (芦川橋) and head up the Ancient Cedar Avenue (箱根旧街道杉並木) toward the Motohakone (元箱根) city area. Along the way on the left, you will get a pretty view of Mount Fuji and Hakone Jinjya Heiwa-no-Torii We also took a detour and saw the Sengokuhara Susuki Grass Fields There is definitely more to see than what we did. So many museums and attractions to visit.
Odakyu Freepass
Your JR Rail Pass won’t work for the Hakone area once you’ve gotten to Odawara station. Instead, pick up an Odakyu Freepass to get around. Purchased either in Shinjuku or Odawara, they have different types of passes to suit your needs. Such as passes with and without round trip use of the Romance Car; and 1 to 3 day passes for how long you will stay. Also, the pass lets you ride unlimited on all the major bus lines, ships, ropeways, and trains in Hakone. Definitely worth the cost for the amount of travel you do in Hakone
Mountain View Hakone
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We got our own bathroom, while the shower and onsen are shared. You can also have Japanese style food added during your stay. We did so because many stores and restaurants close by 5 pm (17:00) or so and we felt we could relax more since we didn’t have to worry about food. It’s convenient location also made the hotel an excellent choice for us.

Hakone | One Day Trip
Hakone, A wonderful place to visit. This place is famous for the view of Mt. Fuji and their hot springs. You can complete most of the major sights in a day but it would be better if you can stay one night. We took the Romancecar from Shinjuku to Hakone-Yumoto. Then took the cable car to Sounzan station and the ropeway to reach Owakudani. The ropeway took around 30 minutes in total. The views from there was spectacular. Owakudani is a volcanic valley with active sulfur. The area is quite hot and very gassy. It smells sort of like rotten eggs. The black eggs are cooked in naturally hot water and the sulfur in the water turns the eggshells black . The myth is if you eating the egg is believed to add 7 years to your life. Then we went to Lake Ashi via a sightseeing cruise . The boat ride took around 30 minutes and was very windy. After that we booked a private onsen. And the experience was truly incredible.
Thanks for watching! :)

Travel VLOG #008!!!
Featuring Lake Ashinoko & Owakudani
Lake Ashinoko, also referred to as Hakone Lake or Lake Ashi, is a scenic lake in the Hakone area of Kanagawa Prefecture. It is a crater lake that lies along the southwest wall of the caldera of Mount Hakone, a complex volcano that last erupted at Ōwakudani.
Hakone Sightseeing Boats and Izuhakone Sightseeing Boats, operate boats between Moto-Hakone and Hakone-machi at the lake's southern shores and Togendai and Kojiri at the lake's northern end.
Ōwakudani is a volcanic valley with active sulphur vents and hot springs in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Formed 3000 years ago as a result of Hakone Volcano eruption. The Black Egg sold at shops in Ōwakudani is said to add seven years to your life if you eat one.
Note: Due to volcanic gases, the walking and hiking trails around Owakudani are currently closed to tourists. If you have respiratory problems, it is advised that you avoid the area due to the volcanic gases.
