Oxfam opens 'superstore' charity shop
Oxfam opens 'superstore' charity shop in Oxford An Oxfam superstore has opened it doors in Oxford - the city where the charity opened its first shop. Oxfam said it worked with a Swedish charity ahead of the launch of store, which is based on an out-of-town format. The 18,500 sq ft (1,718 sq m) store has a drive-through option for people to drop off donations. The charity said it was the biggest of its shops worldwide, and that 150 volunteers would run it. Julie Neeve, project manager for the store, said: It was just an idea that we wanted to look at - an out-of-town format - and we spent some time with a Swedish charity looking at a similar model, understanding what they do. Then we found this amazing site across the road from our headquarters in Oxford. Volunteer Rosemary Shurgold said: I love it. I think it is inspirational and well-stocked. It's the future and I really hope it's going to be a great success. There is always something happening and this organisation does not stand still. Oxfam opened its first shop in Oxford in 1948 and now has more than 600 stores across the UK. This month, it is encouraging people to stop buying new clothes and instead buy used gear as part of its Second Hand September campaign.

Every summer Iconic Steps run free training courses in Documentary, Music Video and Advertising. This is much more than a short course we give students real briefs from companies and/or artists to work on! With this brief we created a short advert for Oxfam to help boost volunteers in shops across the country. We really hope this film inspires new volunteers to help Oxfam fight poverty.

Ox-Tales launches in Oxford
( ) four brilliant collections, featuring short stories from a star-studded cast of writers including Kate Atkinson, Sebastian Faulks, Helen Fielding, William Boyd, John le Carré, Ian Rankin and Jeanettte Winterson. The books and stories are themed very loosely on the four elements and have Oxfam afterwords highlighting different aspects of our work: EARTH (from land rights to farming): AIR (combating climate change), FIRE (campaigning for arms control) and WATER (safe water and sanitation).
This exciting project which The Observer calls a triumph has been delivered in partnership with Profile Books and Hay Festival, together with thirty-eight British- and Irish-based writers, each of whom have generously donated their time and words for free to Oxfam.
You can hear Hari Kunzru and Giles Foden talking about Ox-Tales with Mariella Frostrup on Open Book, BBC Radio 4. href=

Discovering A Hidden Mystery in Abingdon's Oxfam
Could there be a local Banksy in town? Well that’s what a charity shop in Abingdon think after discovering two mysterious, hand-made books in store. It’s believed the books were donated to the Oxfam shop and they date back to the early 1900s – but without any clues or traces left behind, staff are now on the hunt to find the owner.
Oxfam receives £80 million donation (UK) - BBC News - 21st August 2018
A British businessman killed along with his immediate family, has left a huge amount in a donation to Oxfam using a special clause in his will. And it could not have come at a better time for the hard-pressed charity, who are still reeling from a scandal that has affected their donations all year.
Oxfam is a group of 20 charities working together to help people all across planet Earth. Based in the UK they were formed in 1942 by a group of Quakers, social activists, and Oxford academics. Oxfam International has main offices in several other countries and they fund raise, have shops and bring relief to people across the globe.
