Creepy fun times at the Oya Stone Museum in Tochigi
We went to the Oya Stone Museum with Ryosuke's best friend from high school, his wife, and their new baby. It was a really fun day trip.
The museum itself wasn't exactly a museum. It was more like a man-made cave with creepy lighting and even creepier music. I really liked it.

You can experience fantastic and strange.
フランクロイドライト設計による旧帝国ホテルで使用されたことでも有名になった「大谷石」。その採石場跡を資料館として公開している所が、大谷資料館です。今では年間10万人が訪れる観光名所となっていて、絶景地下スポット第二位にもなっています。
東京からほど遠くない栃木県宇都宮市で、この神秘的な体験が出来る事が何とも不思議です。
一年を通して自然の力で気温が低く保たれています。夏でも寒いくらいです。
耳を澄ますと立入禁止区画の、暗くて見えない闇の奥の方で水滴が垂れる音も聞こえて来ます。
この「大谷石地下採掘場跡」は、GLAYやB'zのPV撮影にも使われた場所です。教会もあり、神秘的な雰囲気もあります。（教会は通常入れません。）通常、採掘場跡に入る事は大谷資料館以外不可能ですので、宇都宮にお寄りになった場合は大谷資料館に是非お立寄り下さい。
最後に映っている大きな観音様は、大谷平和観音です。昭和初期に総手彫りで作られました。

I went to this underground cavern in Utsunomiya, Japan with my girlfriend and her friends.
It interesting, but also really cold inside. The Oya Stone Mine/Museum dates back to at least the 8th century AD & is accessible from Utsunomiya station (easier by car).

Like Underground Shrine! “Oya History Museum” is a hot topic. The former underground mine site of “Oya Stone” is now attracting attention as a tourist spot in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture. The hall is cool even in midsummer.
Oyaishi is a stone produced in the Oya-machi area of Utsunomiya. It is called green tuff and has been widely used as a building material because it is softer and lighter than other stones and has fire resistance. For example, the former Imperial Hotel is famous for its architecture.
“Oya History Museum” is a former site that used to be an underground mine at Oya Stone. Mining was carried out from 1919 to 1986.
