Oyama is a beautiful mountain located in Isehara, Kanagawa Prefecture (about 1 hour from Tokyo). Halfway up the mountain lies Afuri Jinja, a beautiful shrine with breathtaking views of the Kanto Plateau. The shrine can be reached either by a one hour long hike up a steep path, or via a 6 minute cable car ride (I opted for the first option).
Every autumn during the season when the leaves turn red, there's a Autumn Leaves Illumination event at the shrine. During the event the nearby shops stay open a bit later than usual, and the mountain can be quite crowded. In fact, I was planning to take the Cable Car down after this event, but the line was so long so I decided to hike down in the dark instead, something that turned out to be much easier than expected.
This was filmed with a Fujifilm X-T3 in 4K 60FPS. The lens used is a Laowa 9mm f2.8, and the camera was mounted on a Zhiyun Crane for stability.
Shot in F-Log and graded in Adobe Premiere CC.

Afuri Jinja Shrine, Oyama ● 阿夫利神社
► Afuri Jinja Shrine is a shinto shrine, located near the peak of Mount Oyama in Kanagawa. From the foot of the mountain you have to take a 20 minute walk up what seems to be a million steep stairs. Then take a cable car further up the mountain, before finally walking more stairs before reaching the small Afuri shrine.
To me, the best thing about it is probably it's location, surrounded by beautiful nature, mountains, trees, small waterfalls & streams. From the back of the shrine is a hiking trail that leads to the top of the mountain, from which you can see Mt. Fuji. - Enjoy!

Oyama Shinto Shrine
The Oyama Shrine was established in 1599 in Utatsuyama, east of Kanazawa. It was moved to its present location in1873 and renamed to Oyama-jinja. The main gate was constructed in 1875. This gate is a peculiar mix of traditional Japanese, Chinese, and European religious architectural elements. The third floor is particularly famous for its Dutch stained-glass windows. It is said that the third floor was also used as a lighthouse.
Oyama Jinja Shrine ⛩, 尾山神社 Japan ????????
Oyama Shrine ⛩ is dedicated to Maeda Toshiie, the first lord of the powerful, local Maeda Clan. The shrine was constructed in 1599 by Toshiie's successor, Maeda Toshinaga on Mount Utatsu. It was later moved to its present location.
Oyama Shrine is known for its unusual gate, which was designed by a Dutch architect, using elements of European and Asian religious themes. While the first story displays a mixture of Japanese and Chinese influence, the upper stories once served as a lighthouse and feature a Dutch style, stained glass window.
The gate originally guarded the entrance to the palace of Kanazawa Castle and was only later moved to Oyama Shrine. On the shrine, grounds stands a statue of Lord Toshiie. There is also a nice strolling garden with ponds and bridges, designed to resemble harps and lutes. ????????

The hiking trials, only a short journey from Tokyo, give beautiful views of the four seasons.
Tanzawa-Oyama, just a short ride from Tokyo, is an area rich in mountains and the delights of nature and is especially famous for its hiking trails. The area's gateway Isehara is less than 1 hour away from Shinjuku on the Odakyu Line. With spectacular views from the mountain, the blue Lakes Miyagase and Tanzawa contrast with the springtime mountain greens, before later in the year exploding in flames of red and yellow autumn leaves; like so many before you, you will find the beauty of the region quite unforgettable.
Not only can your eyes feast in the joys of the four seasons, but also certainly worth a visit are such ancient holy sites as Oyama-dera Temple and the Oyama Afuri Shrine. In addition to hiking up the mountain, riding on the Oyama cable car with its aerial views, adds a little more drama to your journey. Sumptuous dishes made from local ingredients and the pure waters of Oyama are also very popular. Its tofu is so famous that people even say tofu for Oyama, Oyama for tofu.

【Hiking in Japan】Climbing Mount Ōyama Day Trip from Tokyo
【Hiking in Japan】Climbing Mount Ōyama Day Trip from Tokyo Day trip outside Tokyo Hiking Mount Oyama in Kanagawa Tanzawa-Ōyama Quasi-National Park. Mt Oyama is perfect for a road trip or day hike to the mountains in Japan. Hiking in Japan is rewarding be it solo hiking of family friendly hikes you will never forget these adventures. Go hiking in and around Tokyo! Better than always being stuck in the city.
A truly great mountain for beginners.
Mount Ōyama has long been regarded as a holy mountain and object of worship. Religiously motivated mountain climbing has been practiced since the Hōreki era (1751–1764) and the various paths leading there were called Ōyama Kaidō (大山街道 Ōyama Kaidō). Today this name survives as the pseudonym of Route 246.
At the top of the mountain is the head office of the Ōyama-Afuri Shrine (大山阿夫利神社 Ō-yama-afuri Jinja). Lower down the mountain is the lower shrine and the Ōyama-dera (大山寺). Afuri refers to the high amount of rain and clouds associated with the mountain. Farmers pray at Ōyama-Afuri Shrine to the rain god.
