This a an absolute gem! Filmed early in 1962, it follows a family boating holiday with three generations who hired one of the Delight class and one of the Starlight class of motor cruisers from Herbert Woods boatyard at Potter Heigham. There are several things that make this film a bit special. Firstly, whilst their are plenty of scenes showing the family, the cinematographer concentrated on footage of the scenery, the landscape and the villages of Broadland including some super film of Ludham, Coltishall, Horstead Mill, Hoveton and Wroxham along with some lovely shots of Herbert Woods Broads Haven yard. It's always interesting to see how some areas have changed whilst others have remained largely unchanged.
What has changed significantly, and what makes this film really special, is that sections of the car journey were filmed. This is yet another orphaned film. I know nothing about the family featured but their journey starts from the village of Baslow in Derbyshire and they appear to have travelled to the Broads via the old A17 and the A47. I have left the footage intact as it is incredible. No bypasses in those days and straight through town centres that today, I'm sure, are gridlocked by traffic. Leaving home, they pass first through Chesterfield then Newark-on-Trent with some footage of the RAF Cranwell base as they pass. Sleaford with the Handley Monument in the town centre is seen next followed by crossing Sutton Bridge in the fens. Towards the end of the journey they pass through Swaffham with the George Hotel seen.
The interest doesn't stop there as far as the car journey is concerned. The approach to Wroxham is filmed and the family obviously stopped off at George Smith's boatyard for a look round. Back in the car, we get highlights of the drive through Horning and Ludham before the family arrive at Potter Heigham where the roadside is almost unrecognisable.

Kayak - Coltishall to Little Hautbois - Norfolk Broads (canoe)
An August kayak on this stunning stretch that is closed to all motorised boats. I met only one other person on the water kayaking from Little Hautbois to Coltishall and back again.
If you're planning this trip, note that Coltishall does not like kayaks or canoes and strictly forbids any kayak/canoe launching from their village - signs everywhere!
Instead, launch at the gorgeous slipway at Little Hautbois bridge, kayak to the pub at Coltishall (more signs forbidding kayaks/canoes to be pulled up, so you'll need ropes to tie up to bank at pub) and then back again to the slipway at the bridge.
There is a weir/dam just before Coltishall which requires a sixty second portage, there is an excellent slipway there designed for kayaks/canoes.

Norfolk Broads: Sailboat Liveaboard - Ep 43
Sailboat Liveaboard Vlog On The Norfolk Broads, England. Sailing High Seas is a personal blog and vlog of what it is like being a liveaboard on a sailing boat and living off grid whilst continuously cruising the inland waterways, rivers and lakes (broads) within the Norfolk Broads, England. I brought my yacht, High Seas in 2014 and have been here everyday since. High Seas is a Bruce Roberts design sailing boat which is 27 feet long and around 9.5 feet beam. She has a BMC 1500 diesel engine. In this liveaboard vlog, which is my own personal blog of the pros and cons of living on a boat, I share with the viewers mainly on YouTube some of what the experience of living on a boat is like. I am not a professional YouTube vlogger by any means and most of this blog/vlog was filmed on a smartphone and edited wherever and whenever I could get WiFi. Now I have been filming my liveaboard vlog for sometime and the aim now is to leave the Norfolk Broads and to carry on filming the sailboat liveaboard vlog in different locations. I hope to get over to the French canals and out to the Mediterranean real soon and to make some great new living on a boat videos for the liveaboard vlog series. I have really enjoyed living on a boat. It is really awesome. I hope you enjoy my Sailing High Seas liveaboard vlog.
