46 - Sailing to New Zealand: Our Roughest Passage Yet
The time had finally come to leave Fiji and set sail down to New Zealand. This passage is notorious for being rough and it certainly didn't disappoint. For the first three days we bashed through big seas and strong winds which took a toll on both boat and crew.
It wasn't all bad though as the wind and waves did eventually shift around and for the second half of the trip we had decent sailing. We arrived into New Zealand after celebrating Thanksgiving at sea and were super excited to have completed our first season of cruising the South Pacific.

Our No. 1 pick for yachting in the Pacific Vlog 85
We finally sailed to Vava'u in Tonga! This is a place we have been looking forward to returning to ever since we had an amazing dive holiday here 4 years ago, we knew it was choc full of amazing dive spots, idyllic beaches and best of all for yachties - over 40 anchorages, many people choose to live on their yachts here and we can see why. It was good to see on our dives that the coral is still vibrant and healthy here, the beaches and water clarity are amazing and the air is filled with the sound of birdsong and insects at night - always a good sign of a healthy ecosystem. In this episode we revisit some old favourite spots, find some new ones and basically show you the best of Vava'u - enjoy!
We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau.
We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day!
We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand.
We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures!
We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have?
Thanks and enjoy.

(stabilized video version - alas the video stabilization software causes the subtitles to tend to jump about instead) Having fun with wind power! The best thing in Sydney since the bridge climb, taken on a digital camera that kept cutting out - hence lots of short hurriedly panned clips, all strung together. Terrific fun!
This is an old video - one of my fery first that has since been 'processed' with image improving software - so it's a bit jerky in places.

City Description:
Sydney, capital of New South Wales and one of Australia's largest cities, is best known for its harbourfront Sydney Opera House, with a distinctive sail-like design. Massive Darling Harbour and the smaller Circular Quay port are hubs of waterside life, with the arched Harbour Bridge and esteemed Royal Botanic Garden nearby. Sydney Tower’s outdoor platform, the Skywalk, offers 360-degree views of the city and suburbs.Sydney Aquarium, Taronga Zoo and Wildlife Sydney Zoo shelter animals like koalas, kangaroos, sharks and snakes. Pyrmont’s Sydney Fish Market has a working seafood auction and restaurants serving the day’s catch. There are multicultural dining opportunities all over the city, including in Haymarket’s Chinatown and the restaurants serving the Italian community in Leichhardt. A ferry ride through the harbour is part of the experience in visiting outer Sydney destinations such as Bondi and Manly Beaches – both popular for surfing.
Weather and Events:
Sydney is temperate and sunny all year, and crowds are highest during summer (Dec–Feb) and during school holidays. Major events that increase hotel demand are the performing-arts–focused Sydney Festival (Jan), the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras (Feb–Mar), the Sydney Royal Easter Show (dates vary) and the Sydney Film Festival (Jun). Severe thunderstorms are most likely Oct–Mar.

We depart Nassau and head to the Exumas. We sailed the whole way! After arriving in Highbourne Cay, we enjoy a day at the beach exploring with King Arthur and we make new friends with pink iguanas. After the super yacht shared their delicious Kobe beef hotdogs with us, we take a dinghy ride over to the SW side of HIghbourne Cay for some snorkeling. Nick caught his first fish on a spear, yeah! As weather become rough, we left for Saddle Cay which was a short 2 hour trip. The water was crystal clear...amazing!
Lots of Love,

THE SATORI STORY
We are Nick and Kelly, two people with a spirit for adventure. Here we are documenting our journey as we travel the world with our dog Arthur aboard Satori (1989 Morgan 44 Center Cockpit Sailboat). This is a story of sailing and adventure, but its also about the beautiful souls we meet along the way. It’s a story of two people living their lives a little differently in order to gain a new perspective on our beautiful planet and the people in it. Our experiences have affected us in such a way, we are sharing them in the hopes that others will find the inspiration to do what they are passionate about. Follow your dreams!
[Tara Pacific] Manly Beach : l'Océan à Sydney // Manly beach: the Ocean in Sydney
-
Australia is the largest populated island in the world. The relationship of Australians to the ocean is therefore peculiar, it is part of their culture. Surfing, beach volleyball, sailing, diving, walking etc. Many Australians live fully what the sea offers them
How do they evoke their relationship with this element in everyday life? What does it bring them? How do they see the dangers that threaten their balance?
