Acapulco de Juárez (Spanish: [akaˈpulko de ˈxwaɾes]), commonly called Acapulco, is a city, municipality and major seaport in the state of Guerrero on the Pacific coast of Mexico, 380 kilometres (240 mi) southwest from Mexico City. Acapulco is located on a deep, semi-circular bay and has been a port since the early colonial period of Mexico's history.[1] It is a port of call for shipping and cruising lines running between Panama and San Francisco, California, United States.[2] The city of Acapulco is the largest in the state, far larger than the state capital Chilpancingo. Acapulco is also Mexico's largest beach and balneario resorted city.[3]
The city is best known as one of Mexico's oldest and most well-known beach resorts, which came into prominence in the 1950s as a getaway for Hollywood stars and millionaires.[4][5][6][7] Acapulco is still famous for its nightlife and still attracts many tourists, although most are now from Mexico itself.[8][9] The resort area is divided into two: The north end of the bay is the traditional area, where the famous in the mid-20th century vacationed; and the south end is dominated by newer luxury high-rise hotels.[10]
The name Acapulco comes from Nahuatl language Aca-pōl-co, and means where the reeds were destroyed or washed away.[11] The de Juárez was added to the official name in 1885 to honor Benito Juárez, former President of Mexico (1806–1872). The seal for the city shows broken reeds or cane

San Diego Fortress - Acapulco Mexico
In this travel video, I will take you to explore the San Diego Fortress in Acapulco Mexico. This fortress with its many canons was strategically located in Acapulco bay to defend the city from pirates and also to store the many goods brought over by ships coming from as far away as China and other far east countries.
The entrance fee to the fort is free and the museum inside will be $80 Pesos ($4.50 USD) per person. It is well-worth the small fee to go into the museum as there are many gallery rooms filled with historical artifacts. Most of the signage describing what you are seeing is also written in English.
QUESTION?
Have you visited Acapulco and have you been to this museum? Plus, what other places would you reccommend to visit in the city or nearby. Just jot down your answers in the comments section. Love to hear from you!

ACAPULCO, MEXICO - Hola amigos and welcome back! I'm taking a break from life in Mexico and I've headed to Acapulco, Guerrero on the south coast of Mexico for an actual vacation to celebrate 10,000 subscribers, one year in Mexico and most of all, my 37th birthday!
This video is a brief overview of my FIRST IMPRESSIONS of Acapulco after a couple of days of being there. It is not a comprehensive guide to Acapulco, so before you leave any retarded comments such as But you just walked down a street and left, or But you didn't do this/go there - this is the FIRST video of a series of videos in Acapulco so there will be more to come! Comprende?
Acapulco is often considered as one of the most dangerous cities in the world and the most dangerous city in Mexico, with tourists discouraged from visiting due to rising crime levels over the last decade. But let's see for ourselves shall we!
Coming up are videos from the Zocalo area some local seafood, La Laja and more! Don't expect typical tourist activities like boat trips and diving, that's not what I'm here for.

SAILING THE PACIFIC VLOG | Travel in Her Shoes | Ixtapa to Acapulco, Mexico
In my previous video, I shared with you how we got to know Ixtapa for a few days, but we didn't stay there for very long.
Together with my friends (Kevin and Carrie) and the better half (Michael) we took off out into the ocean. It took us 30 hours to reach Acapulco. It wasn't a tough sail, but at least you get an idea of what it's like to wake up in the middle of the Pacific ocean. (my fav moment of all my vlogs ever!)
