Whale watching in Maui is the #1 activity that people visit for during the winter months. These Humpback Whales swim from Alaska and west coast to the Hawaiian Islands each year to mate and give birth in the warm shallow waters around Maui. We can take you to see them up close and person on a traditional Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe or Ocean Kayak
As a matter of fact the waters off of Maui's South/West shores (Kihei, Lahaina, Wailea, Olowalu, Makena, Kaanapali, Kapalua, Napili) are the some of the most populated waters in the WORLD for Humpback Whales. Humpback whales are the most watchable whales due to their surf activities: Pec Slaps, Breaches, Fluke Slaps, Spy Hops and Tail Up Dives. They also surface on average every 10-15minutes to breath, spraying water 15 feet in the air as they clear their lungs through their blow hole, perfect for spectator's or those on a Maui Whale Watching tour. If you're in Maui during whale season going on a whale watch tour is a must!

World's Top Hotels: Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, Hawaii, USA
Discover Four Seasons Resort Maui at
Find sun-soaked tranquility at an enchanted enclave nestled on the magnificent white-sand crescent of Maui's southwest coast. Enjoy the lush tropical gardens and the dramatic peak of Haleakala as your backdrop. Overlooking the gentle waters of Wailea Beach, with its ever-attentive hotel staff, it epitomizes a classical Hawaiian palace resort.
A stroll through fragrant plumeria trees and art-laden public areas reveals a study in relaxed elegance. Four Seasons Resort Maui hugs the sun-soaked Wailea Beach of Hawaii's second largest island. In the distance, lush valleys carved into mountains reveal the inspiration for Maui's nickname: Valley Isle. Journey through a magnificent reef system -- past green sea turtles -- in an outrigger canoe with the championship paddling team.
From the tranquil waters of Wailea Beach to Hookipa Beach, the windsurfing capital of the world, there's a beach for everyone. Far from it all, yet two minutes from high-end shopping. The Shops at Wailea offer over 70 stores -- from Louis Vuitton to Tiffany. More than a way to capture the idyllic scenery, taking a photo of the eighth hole at Gold Course at Wailea Golf Club may actually improve your game. Of all the complimentary services and amenities, this is perhaps the finest: a passionate, yet unobtrusive staff, with two staff members for every guest. It all starts with a lei greeting upon arrival.
Four Seasons Maui appeals to a wide range of travelers because of the many things to do in and around the Resort and the island itself - including the fine art of doing nothing at all.

Hawaii - Maui - Fairmont Kea Lani - Outrigger Canoe
Early morning canoe excursion from the Fairmont Kea Lani Beach. The waters in the early morning are so calm and serene. What a wonderful way to start the day.
This was my first attempt at filming such an activity. Though convenient, I wouldn't recommend affixing the camera to the paddle.

Most Epic Maui Whale Watch EVER - part 2
Check out this close-up humpback whale watching encounter just off the shores of west Maui! Often referred to as a whale ‘mugging,’ these two guys were extremely fortunate to get the whale watch of a lifetime as they prepared to go scuba diving:
Filmed off of the coast of west Maui’s Lahaina Town, this video was captured from a 10 foot zodiac boat on an iPhone and a GoPro and is one of the closest encounters we’ve ever seen on film!
If you plan to travel to Maui, Hawaii, from the period of mid December to mid May, you’re just in time to witness the Aloha State’s favorite time of year: whale season. The 5th largest species of whale in the world, these majestic humpbacks make their annual journey from the shores of Alaska to Hawaii each year in order to mate, give birth and nurse their young in the warm, shallow waters surrounding Hawaii. On Maui in particular, humpback whales particularly seem to love the shallow and protected Au’au Channel, which lies conveniently between west Maui and our neighbor island of Lanai.
While chasing after humpbacks is strictly prohibited, it’s a truly memorable experience when they take the time to approach you instead! You can see these stunning creatures during whale season on Maui on one of many popular whale watching tours, whether by boat with Kai Kanani and Redline Rafting or by outrigger canoe, stand up paddleboard or kayak with Hawaiian Paddle Sports and Maui Kayak Adventures. Additionally, you’re often even lucky enough to spot them from shore while lounging at the beach! Just remember to always pull over, park and get out of your car if the sudden urge to whale watch while driving hits.
When viewing them from the water, you may even get lucky enough to hear the males as they sing, and witness the many playful behaviors they exhibit on the surface of the water, including fluke up and down dives, blowing, pec and tail slapping, spy hopping, head slapping and breaching.
Truly an unforgettable experience in Maui, we recommend whale season for new and return visitors to The Valley Isle. Aloha!

Maui Regions Explained (What Side Of Maui Should You Stay On?)
What side of Maui should you book your hotel accommodations at?
Each side of Maui offers completely different beaches, activities, sights, and climates. This video will cover a basic overview of the different regions of Maui in order to assist you in deciding where you should stay while vacationing here.
North Shore
The north shore of Maui does not have the big fancy resorts, but offers many private bed and breakfast type options for those of you looking to escape the craziness of the resort areas. This region is primarily jungle, with 3 beaches. Weather can be very windy and rainy especially during the winter months. The snorkeling and diving is not very good over here, but if you are an advanced kitesurfer, windsurfer, or surfer, this is the region for you.
Upcountry
Much like North Shore, there are no big resorts here, however there are many beautiful bed and breakfast available for those of you looking to be up in a cooler crisp mountain climate with a great view of the whole island. Expect to be at least 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the island up here, with the occasional shower. The activities Upcountry include hiking and mountain biking in Poli Poli State Park, Makawao Forest Reserve and Haleakala Crater, and also enjoying the peaceful atmosphere at the Lavender Farm, Winery, and Historic Makawao Town.
South Shore
A good array of budget to high end resorts are on this side. The south shore of Maui is in a more desert climate and littered with tons of beaches to choose from. If you’re a beach lounging person, this is the side of the island for you. Stand up paddling and snorkeling can be very good on this side in the morning before the wind kicks up.
Central Maui
Central Maui is can best be summed up as a strictly local community and area. You can find inexpensive hotels and condo rentals here but it is not primarily known as a “tourist” region. Central Maui is half desert climate, half tropical rainforest. Tourist attractions here include Iao Valley State Park, Kanaha Beach Park for windsurfers and kite-boarders, the Pineapple plantation, and Ma’alea harbor where you may go to get on a snorkeling or whale watching charter boat.
West Side
This West side also has a lot of big resorts like the south side and most of them are lined up right next to each other along the Kaanapali Coast. This side has a great variety of beaches and water activities like the south side but also has better scenery and usually calmer waters throughout the day. The west side is also a desert climate so you can expect less rain here.
East Side
The East side of the island is excellent for those really wanting to find peace away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the island. The sole resort out here and the bed and breakfasts are located in the jungle region of the island and a good 2-3 hour 40 mile drive from the Kahului airport.
The views in this region are unsurpassed and the beaches are much less crowded. You can snorkel and surf here but don’t expect to if you are a beginner. The most unique part about staying on this side of the island is being by the red and black sand beaches. Being in the tropical jungle climate, expect a lot of rain on and off here.
That wraps up the basic overview of Maui’s regions. Hopefully this will help you in deciding which side of the island you want to book your accommodations at.

Oahu Interscholastic Association Paddling Regatta #3 Dec 29, 2018
This urban beach park is located next to the Honolulu International Airport. Ke'ehi Lagoon (see more photos) is a great place for canoeing and boating since the waters are usually calm in the protected lagoon. Many canoe clubs do their practice session here and outrigger canoe regattas take place from time to time. However, the man-made beach is not suitable for swimming, snorkeling or surfing.
There is a large grassy area with soccer, baseball, softball and cricket fields, tennis courts, a pavilion and restrooms. In the weekends, the park is often times used for family gatherings since it's a good place to barbecue. When outrigger canoe races take place here, many paddlers as well as spectators come to the park.
Even though the beach park is located on a major highway, the views over to neighboring Sand Island and the city are nice. And since the park is located right next to the airport, one can see many planes take off and land from up close.
Located within Ke'ehi Lagoon are several tiny islands. One of them is Mokauea Island. Encompassing a mere 10 acres, this tiny spit of land is the site of Oahu's last Hawaiian fishing village (and one of two left in the entire state of Hawaii). The non-profit organisation Ho'ola Mokauea has been working to environmentally and culturally restore Mokauea Island.
