Places to see in ( Newcastle upon Tyne - UK )
Newcastle upon Tyne is a university city on the River Tyne in northeast England. With its twin city, Gateshead, it was a major shipbuilding and manufacturing hub during the Industrial Revolution and is now a centre of business, arts and sciences. Spanning the Tyne, modern Gateshead Millennium Bridge, noted for its unique tilting aperture, is a symbol of the 2 cities.
Newcastle upon Tyne commonly known as Newcastle, is a city in Tyne and Wear, North East England, 103 miles (166 km) south of Edinburgh and 277 miles (446 km) north of London on the northern bank of the River Tyne, 8.5 mi (13.7 km) from the North Sea. Newcastle is the most populous city in the North East, and forms the core of the Tyneside conurbation, the eighth most populous urban area in the United Kingdom. Newcastle is a member of the English Core Cities Group and is a member of the Eurocities network of European cities. Newcastle was part of the county of Northumberland until 1400, when it became a county of itself, a status it retained until becoming part of Tyne and Wear in 1974. The regional nickname and dialect for people from Newcastle and the surrounding area is Geordie. Newcastle also houses Newcastle University, a member of the Russell Group, as well as Northumbria University.
The city of Newcastle upon Tyne developed around the Roman settlement Pons Aelius and was named after the castle built in 1080 by Robert Curthose, William the Conqueror's eldest son. The city grew as an important centre for the wool trade in the 14th century, and later became a major coal mining area. The port developed in the 16th century and, along with the shipyards lower down the River Tyne, was amongst the world's largest shipbuilding and ship-repairing centres. Newcastle's economy includes corporate headquarters, learning, digital technology, retail, tourism and cultural centres, from which the city contributes £13 billion towards the United Kingdom's GVA. Among its icons are Newcastle United football club and the Tyne Bridge. Since 1981 the city has hosted the Great North Run, a half marathon which attracts over 57,000 runners each year.
Newcastle International Airport is located approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) from the city centre on the northern outskirts of the city near Ponteland . Newcastle railway station, also known as Newcastle Central Station, is a principal stop on the East Coast Main Line and Cross Country Route. Central Station is one of the busiest stations in Britain. The city is served by the Tyne and Wear Metro, a system of suburban and underground railways covering much of Tyne and Wear. Major roads in the area include the A1 (Gateshead Newcastle Western Bypass), stretching north to Edinburgh and south to London; the A19 heading south past Sunderland and Middlesbrough to York and Doncaster; the A69 heading west to Carlisle; the A696, which becomes the A68 heads past Newcastle Airport. Newcastle is accessible by several mostly traffic-free cycle routes that lead to the edges of the city centre. here are 3 main bus companies providing services in the city; Arriva North East, Go North East and Stagecoach North East.

Jesmond Dene waterfall
Jesmond Dene Newcastle upon Tyne
Flows through the Kingston Park area of the city, Newcastle Great Park, Gosforth Park and Whitebridge Park. The Ouseburn then continues through Paddy Freeman' Park in South Gosforth and into Jesmond Dene, Armstrong Park and Heaton Park, where it marks the boundary between Heaton and Sandyford.
Newcastle's Ouseburn Parks
The parks, collectively known as the Ouseburn Parks, are Heaton Park, Armstrong Park, Jesmond Vale, Jesmond Dene and Paddy Freeman's Park and are located in the east end of the city only about 2.5 miles from the bustling city centre. Lord Armstrong, who presented much of the area to the city in the late 19th century, described it as an oasis in an urban setting! Truly they are!! You can walk the length of them without crossing a main road. So I invite you to join me as we do just that on a pleasant summer day in July 2008. Enjoy the scenery!!

Ouseburn Valley Short Circular, Newcastle upon Tyne ©
This was a very short but pleasant walk around the Ouseburn Valley. The walk was arranged by the Ouseburn Trust to show the work which has recently been done by volunteers cleaning and greening the valley and opening up footpaths and woodland which had become very overgrown. The walk is easily accessible by public transport.
The Ouseburn, a river in Northern England, flows through Newcastle upon Tyne into the River Tyne...The Ouseburn has its source at Callerton in the north of the city near Newcastle Airport. It then flows through the Kingston Park area of the city, Newcastle Great Park, Gosforth Park and Whitebridge Park. The Ouseburn then continues through Paddy Freeman' Park in South Gosforth and into Jesmond Dene, Armstrong Park and Heaton Park, where it marks the boundary between Heaton and Sandyford. The river then flows through a culvert before re-emerging under Byker Bridge, where it flows past Byker Farm and meets the River Tyne. The river was previously tidal from roughly below Byker Bridge, revealing dark mud at low tide. However, since 2009 a tidal barrage at the river mouth retains high water in the Ouseburn at low tide, with the objective of providing a more pleasant environment alongside its banks at low tide, thus promoting development. Despite the expense of its construction the Ouseburn barrage has been left open and not functioning since 2010. The lower Ouseburn Valley, whilst heavily industrialised in the past, serves as of 2013 as a hub for the arts and creative industries, and has a lively pub scene, noted for live music and real ale. Walk with Geordie Prepper - Heaton Park and Jesmond Dene
I set out on a walk to take some footage and stills to use on my channel, but then I thought that maybe you guys would like to see the areas I went to.
It is also important to get out and about in your local area and be familiar with areas that may provide some of the basics during a grid down situation. Or offer an alternative route to your meet up or bug out location. The area I went has water (although not very clean) and food. It is also just good exercise, you can walk about at your own pace. The total miles I walked was about 8 miles or more, it was a good walk and I plan to do more and take you guys with me so please like the video if you want to see more of these.
The video is quite long so here are the chapters you can skip to if you would just like to see something specific or of interest to you.
