The Tamar class is the result of several years of research and development by the RNLI to produce the next generation of slipway-launched lifeboat. It is virtually unsinkable and if it capsizes in the stormy seas around the British Isles, it will right itself within a few seconds. The lifeboat includes the computerised Systems and Information Management System (SIMS) that enables crew to control many of the lifeboat's functions remotely from the safety of their seats. Other features include advanced ergonomics that reduce the impact on the crew as the lifeboat crashes through waves, and a powered Y-class boat stored behind a transom door to allow immediate deployment. The Y-boat is accessed by lifting a section of the rear deck, then launched and recovered on to a ramp provided by the lowered transom door.
The kit contains all the required parts to build the model:
Two glassfibre mouldings: the hull and the deck
Prop-shafts, propellers, brass rudders; a bow-thruster tube
Cnc-cut and printed styrene for the construction of the cabin with detailed interior
A set of fittings and stanchions manufactured from high grade cast alloy
Three large frets of etched brass components including detailed window frames, instrumentation, interior detail etc.
Pre-formed mast arches from brass tube
Vac-formed styrene radar, bow fender, liferaft boxes, liferings, filler bays and hose reel
A vac-formed styrene kit for the Y-class boat with Lettering and Numbers
Self-adhesive Lifeboats lettering and RNLI flags
Over 70 construction drawings and main plans
The Y-boat compartment under the rear deck is an optional fitment with a choice of building the deck door as a one-piece removable unit or with folding sections. The transom door can be represented by a score in the GRP or drawn in with a permanent marker pen. The more experienced model maker will no doubt wish to build a working transom door however no details are given in the kit. We have ensured that the steering gear is below the Y-boat deck level should the modeller wish to house the Y-boat below decks.
Not supplied in the kit: The hull & cabin roof numbers and lettering for any Tamar in the fleet (available from Maritime Models, maritime-models.co.uk). Paints, adhesives and tools will be required to complete.

Launching the Whitstable Lifeboat
Whitstable was one of the first 10 inshore lifeboat stations in the UK and Republic of Ireland. The crew have received four awards for gallantry, and also been recognised by Her Majesty The Queen in the honours lists.
We answer approximately 60 to 70 calls per year. All the crew are volenteers who respond using a pager system which is activated by the Coastguard

RNLI Lizard Lifeboat Station
The Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall has one of the most remote and treacherous coastlines in the UK making the Lizard lifeboat station one of the most important lifeboat stations in the country.
The station's design had to safeguard the environment and re-use as much existing structure as possible. Set at the base of a 45m cliff, a twin-engine Tamar class lifeboat sits ready for launch in the boathouse. When called out, it slides down a slipway into deep water.

Newquay Lifeboat Day, 24th of August, 2014.
Take a look at my Instagram account at
In part 1 it shows the D class lifeboat 'Valerie Wilson' receiving a RNLI crew member from the SAR helicopter, part 2 shows the Atlantic 85 lifeboat 'The Gladys Mildred' receiving, part 3 shows the Tamar Class Lifeboat 'The Spirit of Padstow' 16-04 receiving, but look closely for the SAR helicopter touching one of the aerials. In part 4 it shows the process involved in removing the Atlantic 85 from the water & the final part is the lifeboat, 'The Spirit Of Padstow' departing Newquay Harbour.

Newquay Lifeboat Day on Sunday 24 August 2014 will be the biggest fundraiser of the year for Newquay RNLI lifeboat station. Watch the impressive teamwork of the lifeboat volunteers on a day which promises family fun and rescue action.
Newquay Lifeboat Day will give the public the chance to get up close and see for themselves the lifeboats, equipment and rescue skills used by the local RNLI volunteers to help them save lives at sea from one of Cornwall’s busiest lifeboat stations.
The all day event will feature dramatic air/sea rescue displays and demonstrations -subject to operational requirements- from Newquay’s two RNLI inshore lifeboats, the all-weather lifeboat from Padstow lifeboat station and the Royal Navy’s Search & Rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose. RNLI lifeguards, HM Coastguard and Cornwall Fire & Rescue service will also be at the harbour supporting their local lifeboat crew.
The crowds will be able to enjoy live music, stalls, demonstrations and refreshments in the scenic surroundings of Newquay Harbour and the bay whilst supporting the vital work of Newquay’s RNLI lifeboat volunteers who are on call 24 hours a day.

You can take a boat trip to Ramsey Island from St Justinian’s Lifeboat Station.
This boat trip would be my first recommendation in case if you have very limited time to spent in Wales.
This trip will help you to get some stunning views of the sea / caves/ seals / Sea Birds and so on.
