Places to see in ( Padstow - UK )
Padstow is a town, civil parish and fishing port on the north coast of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The town of Padstow is situated on the west bank of the River Camel estuary approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) northwest of Wadebridge, 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Bodmin and 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Newquay.
Traditionally a fishing port, Padstow is now a popular tourist destination. Although some of its former fishing fleet remains, it is mainly a yachting haven on a dramatic coastline with few easily navigable harbours. The influence of restaurateur Rick Stein can be seen in the port, and tourists travel from long distances to eat at his restaurant and cafés.
The LSWR (and Southern Railway) promoted Padstow as a holiday resort; these companies were rivals to the Great Western Railway (which was the larger railway in the West of England). Until 1964, Padstow was served by the Atlantic Coast Express – a direct train service to/from London (Waterloo) – but the station was closed in 1967. The old railway line is now the Camel Trail, a footpath and cycle path which is popular owing to its picturesque route beside the River Camel. One of the railway mileposts is now embedded outside the Shipwright's Arms public house on the Harbour Front. Today, the nearest railway station is at Bodmin Parkway, a few miles south of Bodmin. Plymouth Bus operate buses to the station.
The South West Coast Path runs on both sides of the River Camel estuary and crosses from Padstow to Rock via the Black Tor ferry. The path gives walking access to the coast with Stepper Point and Trevose Head within an easy day's walk of Padstow. The Saints' Way long-distance footpath runs from Padstow to Fowey on the south coast of Cornwall. The Camel Trail cycleway follows the course of the former railway (see above) from Padstow.

Harlyn Bay, Padstow, Cornwall
Harlyn Bay beach near Padstow in Cornwall is a good all-round family beach, great sand, safe paddling beach, surfing, rock pools to explore and coastal walks. Harlyn lies to the east of Trevone Head which means it is more protected than those exposed directly to the Atlantic rollers.
The video was taken on an early summer day in July.

Padstow, North Cornwall, a video guide
A lovely little film about Padstow in Cornwall.
Padstow is a charming working fishing port where watching the everyday ebb and flow of harbour life is a perfect way to spend a day.
Surrounded by glorious sandy beaches, no less than 7 bays are within a five minute drive, the town's gorgeous setting at the head of the Camel River Estuary and the natural beauty of the surrounding area -- its rugged coastline, quiet coves and fabulous walks make it a must-visit. For foodies, Padstow is a dream destination as the town majors in fresh, locally produced food and is famous for the restaurants of celebrity chefs including Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth. Nearby there's also unrivalled golf on the seaside links of St Enodoc and Trevose.

Padstow Cornwall Peaceful Eventide
Padstow filmed as the evening drew in. Very atmospheric at times and without the throng of tourists, you could image Padstow of old. All the buildings gathered around the harbour with its boats and ships in safe for the night, and the narrow back streets lit by light from many windows, and the occasional street lamp. Filmed in early November I fancy you can feel the chill on the wind as it searches between buildings, and the water looking dark and uninviting reflecting light from warmer places. I enjoyed the comparative quiet of the old town as I walked about. Next time you are there make sure you find time for a wander after dark.
