I Kinda Hate it Here... | Pai, Thailand
Pai, Thailand is meant to me this idyllic Thai village in the hills. It's not. And, I kind of hate it here.
My photography is on IG at @brendanvanson
My buddy @TravelDaveUK made it to Chiang Mai this week and we immediately set off to go on a bit of an adventure.
We wanted to visit Pai, Thailand. All the blog posts out there, and all the vlogs about Pai seem to just rave about it. And, every person we've met in Chiang Mai so far has been telling us how Pai is paradise and a must-see place in Thailand. So, I had really high hopes for this trip. And, I was really looking forward to getting out and shooting some photography as well.
Unfortunately, I kind of hate it here. Pai is overrun. Like, very much overrun by tourists. It almost feels as if foreigners have high-jacked a Thai town and made it their own. I was expecting a quiet town in the countryside. Instead, this is a party town lacking any semblance of authenticity. It's sad, as I imagine Pai was once brilliant.
On the bright side, the landscapes around Pai are beautiful. So, after whining a bit today, I'm going to hopefully get my camera lens out on it tomorrow and find some cooler sights.
Also, spoiler alert. Tomorrow I kind of fall in love with the area around Pai. So, don't be too harsh on my quick judgement today.
There'll be another Thailand vlog tomorrow when I search for photography locations here near Pai, Thailand.

1. Ban Cha Bo Hill Noodle - great views of the valley short ride out from Pai.
2. Chedi Phra That Mae Yen - big white buddha.
3. Tham Lot cave - cave system full of stalactites, stalagmites and fish!
