EDEN 2017 - Pakruojis Manor (Lithuania)

Pakruojis Manor, built in the Classical style, is the largest complex of manor buildings in Lithuania to have survived to the present day. It is located in the northern part of Lithuania – in Pakruojis, famous for its dolomite mines, ancient brewery traditions, noblemen cuisine and distinctive stories. Today Pakruojis manor seeks to revive Lithuania‘s manorial culture and to recreate manors' pre-war life.

More than 20 thematic installations of light, made of a few hundred silk lanterns, specially created in China. Theatricalized shows of Lithuanian and Chinese actors, workshops of Chinese artists and craftsmans, tastes of the Oriental cuisine and festive fair. The Baron of Pakruojis manor visited the Far East with his family, and he was fascinated by the magical things he had never seen before.

The work tries to catch the atmosphere of a manor house lost in Lithuania by combining and overlapping images of the place. Despite its state of semi-abandonment, I focused on the tiny alive elements to generate a tension that brings a feeling of present, contrasting it with the monumental static constructions which refers to a past time.
