Explore the beautiful Beit ed-Dine Palace Lebanon
Beit ed-Dine is a small town and municipality in the Chouf District of the Mount Lebanon Governorate in Lebanon. It is about 45 kilometres southeast of Beirut. The area is predominantly Christian, and it is most well known for its 18th century Beiteddine Palace. Built by Emir Bashir II in 1788 the site’s control has been interchanged between the Ottoman Empire and later the French Mandate. Today you can enjoy walking around this beautiful palace after a short drive from Beirut. Entry for a nominal fee, you can explore some beautiful gardens and mosaics as well as the lavish lifestyle the inhabitants once had. Today it remains open to the public however it can be enjoyed by the sitting President as a summers residence.

Beiteddine Palace, Lebanon
Beiteddine Palace, (or Bayt ad Din), was built in the early 19th century for the Ottoman governor of Lebanon. It is now a residence for the Lebanese President. Beiteddine Palace and Drone Photography Deir El Qamar – Beautiful Old Village
My plan was to photograph Beiteddine and check out the old beautiful palace in Beiteddine, but I forgot that in summer there is a music festival at the palace and the place closes at 5 pm. It was still beautiful to check it out, so since I was out of a location for sunset. I headed to the nearby town of Deir El Qamar, a beautiful old village with old houses and really historic. It was a bit rushed and the light wasn’t working in my favor, but here is when a drone can capture some unique views and give you the chance to take some nice video and photos. Overall it was a fun day exploring, finished with local ice cream dipped in pistachio ☺

Beiteddine Palace Complex, Lebanon.
Beiteddine Palace Complex, Lebanon.
In the Middle Ages Lebanon was divided up into fiefs governed by emirs or hereditary sheikhs. But in the Dar El Harim façadeearly years of the 17th century, Emir Fakhr Ed Dine II Maan (d. 1635) succeeded in extending his power throughout these princedoms and eventually ruled an area corresponding to present-day Lebanon.
His first capital was at Baaqline but because of a chronic water shortage, he was forced to move to Deir El Qamar where there were copious springs.
When the Maan dynasty died out at the end of the 17th century, the land was inherited by the emirs of the Chehab family. It was Emir Bechir Chehab II who decided to leave Deir El Qamar and to construct his own palace at Beiteddine (House of faith), a druze hermitage which today is part of the palace.
In 1812, Emir Bechir obliged each of his able-bodied males subjects to provide two days of unpaid labor in order to ensure a plentiful supply of water at his new seat of government. Within two years the project was completed. The palace remained the emir's residence until his forced exile in 1840. After the Ottomans suppressed the emirate in 1842 the building was used by the Ottoman authorities as the government residence. Later, under the French Mandate following World War I, it was used for local administrative purposes. The General Directorate of Antiquities carefully restored Beiteddine to its original grandeur after it was declared a historic monument in 1934. Beginning in 1943, the year of Lebanon's independence, the palace became the summer residence of the president. Bechara El Khoury was the first president to use Beiteddine and he brought back the remains of Emir Bechir from Istanbul, where he had died in 1850. Today Beiteddine, with its museums and its gardens, is one of Lebanon's major tourist attractions. Qualified guides are available for your tour through this monument, which is open daily. A visit to Beiteddine is ideally combined with nearby Dei Al Qamar.

A palace
Beiteddine Palace Chouf district Lebanon
A peaceful relaxing walk around romantic Beiteddine Palace. When we were on holiday in Lebanon we had the opportunity to visit the palace and jumped at the chance. It is an amazing place and an interior designer's dream.
Beiteddine Palace Chouf district Lebanon
There are many examples of Roman art in mosaics dating from before the 5th century. It's a perfect venue for a wedding and there was one taking place when we were there.
As an example of traditional Lebanese building methods, it is second to none and the design can be seen in many older Lebanese homes.
The ceilings are made with cedar wood and flagstones and there are many decoratively carved wooden ceiling and wall panels that are spectacular and complex. There are marble floors just about everywhere with ornate designs and patterns.
The central courtyard has a large fountain and there are many marble and rock wash basins and fonts.
Beit ed Dine Palace is also known as the house of faith or the house of religion because it has always been a meeting place for all the religions of Lebanon to come and debate spiritual as well as temporal matters. Questions like. What is religion and what is its purpose?
Sitting high up in the Chouf district of Lebanon the palace has a commanding view of the surrounding valleys and can be seen from very far away. It's an impressive structure and must have taken a massive effort to build.
