STORYLINE
Brazil''s capital celebrates its 50th anniversary on Wednesday; a city of two (m) million with swooping buildings designed by famed architect Oscar Niemeyer.
Brasilia, built from scratch 600 miles (965 kilometres) inland, was envisioned as the dream city, a transformational project to thrust Latin America''s largest nation ahead with a modern capital in the wilds of Brazil''s vast, interior savanna.
A half century after it was inaugurated on April 21, 1960, it has fulfilled much of that promise.
The roads are smooth and pedestrians can cross streets without fear of being mowed down. Downtown sparkles, in contrast to the crumbling centres of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
Brasilia was an adventure, said Niemeyer. It was made in such a rush, we barely had time to think.
Moving the capital from coastal Rio de Janeiro to Brazil''s interior had been floated as early as 1823 by independence leader Jose Bonifacio de Andrade e Silva.
He and his successors wanted to develop the vast swaths of jungle and plain that held natural riches and seemingly endless farm land. But there was no population centre to anchor such development.
During the 1956-1961 term of President Juscelino Kubitschek, whose motto was 50 Years of Progress in Five, the city was finally built, in 41 months, with labourers toiling 24 hours a day until the inauguration.
Brasilia''s architecture has brought international attention.
Named in 1987 as a UNESCO world heritage site, the city''s airplane-shaped design was the idea of urban planner Lucio Costa and its modernistic government buildings the work of architect Niemeyer.
But despite its beauty, Brasilia has the same problems as the rest of Brazil, with the city ringed by huge rundown areas.
It was designed with enough homes for an estimated 600-thousand people.

Brasilia Travel Guide - Brazilian Astonishing Experience
Brasilia Travel Guide - Brazilian Astonishing Experience
Brasília, the capital of Brazil and the seat of government of the Distrito Federal, is a planned city. Inaugurated in 1960 in the Central Highlands of Brazil, it is a masterpiece of modernist architecture listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and attracts architecture aficionados worldwide. Brasilia is also an important transportation hub for travel within Brazil.
The basic structure of Brasilia was completed in just four years, from 1956 to 1960, under the leadership of President Juscelino Kubitschek, with the slogan fifty years of progress in five, and the city is in a sense a memorial to him. The cathedral has six columns representing two hands reaching up to almighty heaven.
Temperatures seldom hit extremes. 17°C to 28°C (63 to 82°F) are the average lows and highs, but it can get as low as 1°C (34°F) in winter and get as hot as 34°C (92°F) in September/October. In dry season (August–September) the city's landscape, normally very green, becomes desert-like and everyone must drink lots of water to prevent the unpleasant effects of dehydration.
Official tourist info can be obtained from State Secretariat of Tourism of the Distrito Federal (in Portuguese). There are also stands in the airport, the new rodoviaria and the Praça dos Três Poderes. The Three Powers Square (Praça dos Três Poderes) at the eastern end of the Monumental Axis. Includes the seats of the country's 3 highest authorities: the Congress, the Presidential Palace (called Palácio do Planalto) and the Supreme Court. The axis itself is aligned such that on April 21 (Tiradentes Day, marking the death of the Brazilian independence martyr), the sun rises precisely between the two towers of Congress. The bronze statue of two abstract figures is named Os Candangos and represents the pioneering spirit of the workers who built the city. There's also a blind justice statue by the Supreme Court, a small museum about Juscelino Kubitschek, the Pantheon, the Eternal Flame monument, and a model, built to scale, of Brasilia itself, in an underground space.
Brasilia does not have a typical, regional cuisine. Nevertheless, restaurants serve food from many Brazilian states, as well as international fare. Most of the city's accommodation is located at the Hotel Sectors (SHS and SHN), two central areas located on both sides of Eixo Monumental. During weekdays, hotels are usually busy due to the capital's political activity and it is advisable to book in advance. Typical prices are R$200 for a double room and R$95 for a single. Most ot the hotels have an off-price for the weekends.
With long distances and harrowing six-lane highways connected by spaghetti junctions, Brasília presents challenges for walkers; consider renting a car or ride shares. You'll find a lively city hidden behind the futuristic facade. It's not only a pilgrimage for architecture buffs but also foodies, night owls and those seeking a unique travel experience.

B-side
- Niemeyer wrote a book ‘Curves of Time’ in which he explains his work.
- The church in Pampulha got lots of criticism because of the unorthodox shape, only after some years it was accepted by the critics.
- Joaquim Cardoso (1897-1978) was Niemeyer’s engineer since the Pampulha project. He was a major key in making Niemeyer’s work become reality.
- The modernistic thought of ‘form follows function’ was not a design tool for Niemeyer. ‘’Beauty is also a function’’
- When Jean-Paul Sartre found out about Brasília, he wrote that it is a dreamlike and ideal architectural city.
- When Walter Gropius visited Niemeyer’s home after completion, he mentioned: ‘’it is a beautiful house Oscar, but you wouldn’t be able to remake something like this´´. On which Niemeyer replied: ‘’Of course not, the house is designed for this location’’.
This 'B-side' is here to deliver more information about Oscar.
The purpose of the video is to inform you quick with info, so why not put more information beneath the video? :)

STORYLINE:
Thousands of Brazilian farmers and peasants are marching towards the capital city of Brasilia to demand faster land reform.
The march started at the beginning of the month and is due to finish on May 17th, with a planned protest in front of the Brazilia's Planalto Palace, the official residency of the Brazilian President.
This weekend, the rally reached the outskirts of Brasilia.
Walking an average of 15 kilometres (nine miles) per day, the peasants are camping on the side of the BR-060 motorway.
The marchers have spent their mornings marching, while afternoons were dedicated to studying and learning more about the need for land reform.
The two-week march aims to denounce what the Landless movement considers to be the government's failure to keep its promise to distribute land to and resettle families of landless peasants.
According to the movement, Brazil has four (m) million families without land.
The landless movement is one of the biggest social organisations in the country and became notorious in Brazil for invading farm land they considered unproductive.
The party of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the Workers Party - PT - has long been an ally of the movement. Leftist President Lula has pledged to settle 400 (t) thousand families by 2006.
Despite the link with the ruling party, the movement's leaders have criticised the slow pace of the land reform. They say Lula's administration gives preference to large-scale agro-business over small producers.
According to the Landless Movement, only 81 thousand families have received land since President Lula took office in January 2003, and just 35 thousand of them were given newly expropriated land.
The other 46 thousand families were settled on land expropriated by previous governments.
This is the largest rally of the Landless Movement since 1997, when nine thousand peasants marched on Brasilia.

Brazil: BRICS states 'should work together to pursue development' - Xi
Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe
Chinese President Xi Jinping called for more collaboration between Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) in order to keep pace with the times, on the last day of the 11th BRICS summit in Brasilia on Thursday.
The current world is still not peaceful. The security situation of the region is continuously tense and the hot issues never stop. Traditional and untraditional safety issues intertwine, Xi said, adding that BRICS countries should advocate and practice multilateralism with the goal of maintaining the world peace and mutual development, the purpose of maintaining fairness and justice, the foundation of international law and acknowledged basic norms in international relation.
During the two-day event, which runs under the theme 'BRICS: Economic Growth for an Innovative Future', the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are to discuss the current state and prospects of cooperation within the organisation, including issues related to economic, financial and cultural cooperation.

STORYLINE
Mourners gathered in Brasilia, Brazil's modernist capital, on Thursday to honour internationally renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer during a memorial in the city that most strongly reflects his signature style in its monumental buildings of flowing concrete and grand, sweeping curves.
Niemeyer's remains were flown by presidential plane to the capital from his native city, Rio de Janeiro, where he died Wednesday night
at age 104.
His coffin was then driven around the capital in an open firetruck touring his most famous works such as the National Congress, designed as two giant white bowls, one facing up and another facing down, with twin 330-foot-tall (100-meter) towers rising between them.

BRAZILIAN BIZARRE JESUS CHRIST iNRI CRISTO- REHAB (AMY WINEHOUSE) GOSPEL VERSION
inri Cristo (born Alvaro Thais in Indaial, Santa Catarina state, Brazil, March 22, 1948) is a Brazilian religious leader who claims to be Jesus Christ reincarnated. He is well-known for his many appearances in the media of Brazil and other countries as well.[1]
Inri Cristo regularly participates in lively debates with religious figures, such as priest Oscar González Quevedo, and also appears in interviews and comedy shows. His provocative statements about evolutionism, vegetarianism,[2] overpopulation, birth control, abortion, atheism, socialism and capitalism, growth of overall disillusionment,[clarification needed] and World War III have stirred much commentary and controversy.
Inri Cristo was raised by two Roman Catholic farmers of German ancestry, Wilhelm and Magdalena Thais.[3] Inri had a humble childhood and studied for about three years at the Adolfo Konder School. He quit studying in order to help his mother, whom he calls the woman who raised him, with domestic supplies, since his father, her husband, was retired owing to a work accident.
Since childhood, Inri has claimed to obey a powerful voice that speaks inside his head. Obedient to this voice, he left home at thirteen to live independently of his family. In adolescence he worked as a greengrocer, baker, delivery boy, peddler and waiter. Eventually, Inri severed all ties to Christianity, becoming atheist, until received what he calls the revelation of his identity.
[edit] Public speaking and religious activities
In 1969, at the age of 21, Inri began his public life as a self-professed prophet and astrologer, introducing himself as Iuri de Nostradamus.[4] Speaking on Brazilian radio, he predicted the future and advised people with their personal problems.
In 1971, he began speaking on television, with TV Morena (an affiliate of Brazilian Rede Globo), and this opportunity introduced him to a wider audience. In 1976, claiming to blaze the trail of spiritual transcendence, Inri became vegetarian. In 1977 he lived for some time in Copacabana Palace hotel, in Rio de Janeiro, a part of high society. In 1978, he left Brazil on a tour through Latin America, speaking on radio.
In 1979, obeying the same powerful voice that he claims to have heard since childhood, he underwent a fast in Santiago, Chile. On this occasion, he says, the voice said in a rasping voice, I am your Father, and revealed itself to be the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob.
This voice, he says, said that he was the same Christ crucified two thousand years ago under Pontius Pilate. It also said that the second letter of his name (the u in Iuri) would henceforth be upside down, making his name Inri, the acronym for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum.[5] Inri launched a pilgrimage over many countries, dressed in a white tunic and sandals, announcing that his mission would be accomplished in the dawn of a New Age of peace.
Inri wandered over 27 countries spreading his message. In 1980, Inri was expelled from the United States, from Venezuela and from England. France sheltered him for nine months and even announced in Antenne 2: Le Christ est revenu sur la terre (Christ is back on Earth). On this occasion, Inri was invited to speak in the Grande École Polytechnique de Paris. Back in Brazil, on February 28, 1982 Inri performed what he calls a libertarian act. He broke into the cathedral in Belém in Pará state. Accused of profanation and vandalism by the clergy, he was sent to jail for fifteen days.[6][7] On this occasion, he established a new mystical order, SOUST (Suprema Ordem Universal da Santissima Trindade), that he calls the formalization of the promised Kingdom of God on Earth. On April 20, 1982, Inri Cristo officially establishment of SOUST in Curitiba, Paraná, where he remained for 24 years in a provisional headquarters.
Inri Cristo now lives in Brasília, the federal capital of Brazil, where SOUST has had its headquarters since 2006. Inri Cristo and his disciples consider Brasília the New Jerusalem of Christian apocalyptic tradition.
He has been detained by police more than forty times, owing to his statements and unusual way of dressing.[8]
He is often invited to give lectures in many colleges and universities throughout Brazil, and is usually well received by students.[9]
[edit] Name
Inri Cristo was prosecuted for ideological fraud for fifteen years in Brazilian courts. On October 24, 2000, the Tribunal of Justice of the Brazilian State of Paraná officially conceded to him the right to use the name Inri Cristo alongside his baptismal name on legal documents.

Brasília - Principais Pontos Turísticos
Brasília - Principais Pontos Turísticos
Brasília é a capital federal do Brasil e a sede do governo do Distrito Federal. A capital brasileira é a maior cidade do mundo construída no século XX.

Bolsonaro met at Itamaraty Palace in Brasilia with Chinese President Xi Jinping at a meeting prior to the 11th meeting. Brics Summit, a bloc also made up of Russia, India and South Africa. “China is our first trading partner and together with my entire team, as well as with Brazilian business, we want more than to expand, we want to diversify our trade relations,” said the president, in a brief statement to the press, before going to a lunch offered to the Chinese delegation. “China is increasingly part of Brazil’s future.”
Bolsonaro made no mention, however, of a free trade agreement with China, which has already been cited by authorities of both countries and has the support of Economy Minister Paulo Guedes. Already the Chinese asked Bolsonaro partnership and help from Brazil to influence business with Latin American and Caribbean countries and a defense of “multilateralism” in international trade, by the heads of state in Brics.
Brazil has an old demand for the Chinese to open the domestic market to higher value-added processed and semi-processed agricultural products, such as soybeans, which could boost export earnings.
Ministerial authorities from both countries have signed a series of agreements and protocols of intent to collaborate in areas such as economics, transport, health, agribusiness and culture. According to Bolsonaro, they will be “empowered” by Brazil. “All of us, Brazilians and Chinese, have something to gain from moments like this. Our government will increasingly treat the Chinese government with due care, respect and consideration,” Bolsonaro said. “Make yourself at home, it’s a pleasure to have you here,” he told the Chinese.
Bolsonaro once again thanked a recent diplomatic demonstration by the Chinese Embassy, which, according to him, guaranteed respect for Brazilian sovereignty during the international burnout of the Amazon forest fires: “It was a gesture of greatness that made us very strong. opportunity”.
China’s President Xi Jinping called for Brazil’s involvement to expand its business in Latin America and the Caribbean, areas of commercial interest in the country and strong US economic and geopolitical influence, which has been a preferred partner of the Jair Bolsonaro government. .
At a bilateral meeting prior to the BRICS summit, the Chinese also demanded from Bolsonaro a joint effort to have the emerging countries bloc, also made up of Russia, India and South Africa, defend “multilateralism” and the rights of developing nations against to the great powers.
“China attaches great importance to Brazil’s influence in Latin America and the Caribbean. We will take advantage of our advantages to promote common development, aiming to create China / Latin America and Caribbean relations in the new era, characterized by equality, mutual benefit, innovation, openness. and benefits for the people, “said Xi Jinping, in a statement to the press following the meeting at Itamaraty Palace. “China would like to treat the three-way cooperation based on respecting the wishes of countries in the region to make a bigger pie and make shared gains.”
At the bilateral meeting, Xi Jinping appealed to Bolsonaro for a stance against unilateralism in the Brics statement, without citing in public the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump. He considered Brazil and China to be the main emerging markets of the West and East in the international context of “deep and complex changes”. “Brazil and China should strive together for the summit to produce fruitful results and give a positive signal that members consolidate the strategic partnership, support multilateralism, equity and international justice and defend the rights of developing countries so that the Brics constantly advance in the second golden decade bringing benefits to our peoples, “said Xi.
He reaffirmed that the countries maintain a relationship of trust and that China wants to update the strategic partnership with Brazil and expand cooperation. “China is willing to work closely with Brazil to promote exchange on an equal footing,” said the Chinese president. “We have decided together to continue to intensify high-level and other contacts, deepen mutual political confidence and make good use of bilateral mechanisms and increase trade and investment.”
Xi Jinping cited interest in the portfolio of works and projects of the Brazilian Investment Partnership Program (PPI) and wants to cooperate in agriculture, energy, mining, oil and gas, infrastructure, electricity, science, technology and innovation and digital economy.
The Brazilian government could also opt out of the South American bloc to negotiate directly with the Chinese.
