Built in the 80's by the dictator and mentally disturbed Nicolae Ceausescu, located in Bucharest, Romania, the Palace has 1000 rooms and is a testament to ugly excessive architecture. Now available to tour, this is one tour to take to experience how 100,000 people built an edifice to glorify 1 person and the Communist party. So come and enjoy the tour of a building that is hardly used anymore but gives a sense to the silly grandeur and symbol of crazy government intentions gone wrong.

Palace of the Parliament tour - Bucharest
A guided tour of The Palace of the Parliament, also known as The People's Palace. Although the tour only covers about 5% of the building, we see some of the grand architecture and design. Ceausescu's demands for opulence meant everything had to be built on a grand scale, not matter what the cost.... and this building is no exception. This is the second biggest administrative building in the world (after The Pentagon) and is also the heaviest. It's also the most expensive in Europe.

In Bucharest there's one building you can't miss - The Peoples Palace of the Parliament. It's incredibly well known and puts Romania on the map with it's crazy stories about how the palace came to be, what now makes it the people's palace and it's relationship to Parliament.
Topgear UK came to Bucharest with supercars and took them below the palace, in the hidden 20km worth of tunnels, and raced them under the parliament building. Definitely a highlight of their trip to Romania!
Just one block over from the Peoples Palace of Parliament is Cereal Crunch, where you can get over 100 different cereal options at their cafe! Not a 'Romania Thing' at all but one of our strange must visit options in Bucharest haha

???????? ROMANIA: Bucharest - Palace of the Parliament Tour | TRAVEL VLOG #0149
On a visit to Bucharest, the Palace of the Parliament is a must-see to understand where the country has come from since its rise from Communism in 1989 after overthrowing Nicolae Ceauşescu. The Palace is the second largest administrative building in the world, second only to the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Come along with me on my tour of the palace.
For information about getting tickets for the Palace of the Parliament:
Note: NO actual tickets are sold anywhere but the Palace itself. Make a reservation by phone and pick it up at the Palace. I was able to find other places online that sold tickets and made your reservation, but you had to meet a representative there to pick up an actual ticket.

DICTATORS AND PALACES IN BUCHAREST
Romania is Booming. Today we visited the Palace of Parliament in Bucharest. It is the third largest building in the world by volume and the 2nd largest admin building in the world behind the Pentagon. It was built by a dictator and essentially bankrupted the country.

The palace of parliament, Bucharest, Romania
The palace of the Parliament is a colossal building, designed and supervised by chief architect Anca Petrescu with a team of approximately 700 architects, and was constructed over a period of 13 years (1984–97). It was built as a monument for a totalitarian kitsch style of architecture and modernist Neoclassical architectural forms and styles,] with socialist realism in mind. The Palace was ordered by Nicolae Ceaușescu (1918–1989), the Communist leader of Romania. After the Romanian uprising in December 1989 it became widely known as The People's House. Due to its impressive endowments, events organized by state institutions and international bodies such as conferences, symposia, and others take place there, but even so about 70% of the building almost four decades later still remains empty.
Romania: Bucharest and the Palace of Parliament
We packed up our things and as a class headed from Moldova to Bucharest Romania. Again, most of our time spent in Romania was at companies learning about the Romanian transformation over the past few decades. Two of the most interesting parts of the trip was the visit to the palace of parliament (The peoples house) and Halewood vineyards. The three days in Romania were amazing and it would be nice to go back and see more of the country.
We do apologize for the video quality. The majority of the footage was shot on a Samsung galaxy s6.
Palace of the Parliament + Nicolae Ceausescu Mansion | Bucharest
It's impossible to miss the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest - like literally impossible. It's huge. It's the heaviest building in the world. We tried to dive just a little bit deeper to discover more about the man who commissioned it - Nicolae Ceausescu - by visiting the mansion he lived in during his time in office. It's a complicated history, one that we admittedly only have a very basic understanding of, but the buildings were awe inspiring.

World’s 2nd Largest Building - Bucharest Palace of the Parliament
Visit the World’s 2nd Largest Building - Bucharest Palace of the Parliament. The only administrative building which is larger is the Pentagon!
We catch the City Sightseeing Hop on / hop off bus tour directly to the palace of the parliament in Bucharest, Romania. Once there we take a tour through this massive building and cover only about 5% of the interior in roughly an hour. It is huge!
Be warned that you must like stairs if you take this guided tour, for there are so many stairs in the Palace of the Parliament. But it's worth it because this is definitely one of the best things to do in Bucharest.
My recommendation - don't miss the Palace of the Parliament tour if you are ever in Bucharest, Romania. It truly is a must-see attraction.

Leaving the vast plains between the Danube and the Black Sea and heading back to Bucharest, the capital of Romania. In the 1980s, the city center of Bucharest was demolished and the world's heaviest building was built there. To build a palace that would never collapse, the dictator destroyed 10,000 houses and life. This palace is not just one of the largest buildings in the world, but the second largest building after the Pentagon. If you look at the style of the building, it does not seem to have much to do with communism. It is rather a royal atmosphere. There is a lot of stairs over there, and it makes me feel as though Louis XIV is walking around. Like Louis XIV, Ceauşescu, who wanted to walk here, was expelled from the throne without seeing the completion of this marble palace. But the gorgeous palace remained intact and is now being used for fashion shows and business briefings. This is the largest curtain in the building, weighing 200kg on one side and 15m in length. There are many numbers in this building that you can not believe. The number of chandeliers is only 2,800. Someone has described this building very well and said it's a piece of paranoia. But at the same time, it was created by the skill and effort of ordinary people. Do you hear applause yet? Imagine people applauding after Nicolai Ceauşescu gave a speech. It would be better if you let 100 people hear the clapping of 300 people. The more the better. It's a joy. It was the purpose of this room to feel that joy. It's nice to show people how much he loves Ceausescu and how he is loved. Or maybe it was just for self-satisfaction. Either way. I think there is a good historical lesson here. In such a society, a large number of people contribute to the system. One person can never do all the work. One person has a big picture, but there must be some people who will follow it...
