The Palais Theatre: Melbourne's Home of Live Music
This short film is an appreciation of the cultural contribution that the Palais has made to St Kilda and the city of Melbourne.
The Palais Theatre is a magical place for Melburnians. It’s where generations of us have danced cheek to cheek, watched movies in the darkness, screamed lustily at the Rolling Stones, thrown roses at the feet of Margot Fonteyn and Rudolph Nureyev, and given standing ovations to Dame Joan Hammond’s awe-inspiring soprano.
This film forms part of The Palais Theatre story on the Culture Victoria website:

Ben Jackson- percussion solo at the Palais Theatre, Australia.
Ben Jackson was delighted to be invited to perform at the Palais Theatre, Melbourne, Australia. The theatre management invited Ben to demonstrate the acoustics (no mics or amplification) of the legendary 2,896 capacity theatre built in 1927. Audiences toured the theatre across a one day event celebrating the iconic theatre. This is the largest indoor theatre in the southern hemisphere and boasts performance credits by some the world's most renown bands and shows. A true honour! Thanks for the footage Greg!

Palais Theatre Restoration 2016-17
Melbourne's iconic Palais Theatre is undergoing a $20 million repair and restoration, securing its long term future as a live performance venue. Follow the progress of the restoration on our website:
The Palais Theatre was completed in 1927 and is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.
The repair and refurbishment works currently under way will address the building’s critical maintenance and refurbishment issues, securing the long-term future of the Palais Theatre as a live performance venue. The works include upgrading the theatre’s electrical system to modern standards, upgrades to the building’s fire protection systems, upgrades to disabled access and facilities, upgrades to various hydraulic systems and refurbishment of and repairs to the theatre’s exterior.
As part of the refurbishment, the Palais Theatre will be repainted in its original colour – a sand tone consistent with the building’s c.1927 finish.

Baby Animals - Live at The Palais St Kilda, Melbourne - 1992
Baby Animals live at The Palais Theatre in St Kilda, Melbourne June 1992. This special was filmed for Japanese television and never shown in Australia. The audio is really good but the producers added some dreadful filters to the video. Great to see some before show / back stage / rehearsal footage cut in between the songs. The first part of Ain't Gonna Get is missing and I've also included the intro part from the DVD menu because, why not. Good to see their Hendrix cover of 'Fire' is here too. They sold out 2 shows at The Palais on this tour after touring the world and watching their album slowly climb all the way to #1.

LOVE AN ADVENTURE - PSEUDO ECHO LIVE AT THE PALAIS THEATRE ST KILDA MELBOURNE 15/11/2019.
LOVE AN ADVENTURE - PSEUDO ECHO LIVE AT THE PALAIS THEATRE ST KILDA MELBOURNE 15/11/2019. One of their biggest hits played live as part of the Australian 80's mania tour 2019. Sorry about the dark lighting in a few parts of the video, the lighting for some parts of the show was rather amiss I have to say.
