Places to see in ( Barcelona - Spain ) Palau Dalmases
The House Dalmases or Dalmases Palace is a building located in the Ribera district of Barcelona , in the middle of the block bounded by streets of Moncada , of San Antonio and Sombrerers of Sombrerers of rooms and the Old Bar Iron It is a large house between mediators with the main facade facing Carrer de Montcada, a central courtyard and a rear façade on a rear courtyard elevated.
The façade facing Montcada Street is entirely built in Montjuïc's stone and articulates its openings on seven vertical axes that do not correspond to the organization of the ground floor, which has been very interactive throughout the years. The ground floor stands out due to the presence of the main portal, with their lintels and branches profusely ornamented with moldings, and by the remains of the windows of the mezzanine that had previously crossed the whole level. All the openings present their framing richly molded and, those of the noble plant, are protected by a mantel with curly-lined ornaments with rocky motifs. The balconies of the house stand out because of their monolithic lids and their wrought iron railings with helical angles. The facade is finished off by the small windows of the attic, whose lintels maintain a powerful cornice from which large zoomorphic gargoyles stand out. Regarding its interiors, Casa Dalmases is probably one of the most interesting in the city.
La Capella is one of the smallest rooms on the noble floor, but also one of the most interesting, to be covered with an edge vault made of plasterboard and richly decorated with all kinds of ribbings and musical angels. It could be one of the first examples of neo-Gothic decoration made in Catalonia in the 19th century. XIX.
The origins of this house go back to the origins of the urbanization of Carrer de Montcada, although the first news we are referring to the s. XIV, when the three gothic houses that make up the current plot belonged to the Cathedral Chapter and were inhabited by Bernat Sapila and Guerau Sespluga. Throughout the Modern Age , the house grew and passed into the hands of aristocratic families such as the Boixadors or the Grimau. Being uninhabited in the last years of the s. XVII and affected by the bombing of the siege of Barcelona in 1697 the farm reached the turn of the century. XVIII in ruin state. Its owners sold it in 1698 to Pau Dalmases Castells i Ros, member of a family of Sant Martí Sesgueioles, who would do to reconstruct the house almost again. The artistic quality of the finishes of the new house, as well as the interesting iconographic content of its ornaments, allow us to suppose that his son, the intellectual Pau Ignasi de Dalmases , had a certain ancestry in the choice of the decorative program and the sculptural theme of the house.
Pau Ignasi, who had been appointed Knight of Carlos II, Marquess of Vilallonga for Archduke Carlos III and Ambassador of England during the War of Succession , is a key figure in the history of this house and, also, of Catalonia Barroca In his house at Carrer Montcada Pau Ignasi, he founded the Academy of the Disrespected , frequented by intellectuals, among which the musician Francesc Valls , the Viceroy of Mallorca, Sardinia and Naples, and Prince Jordi of Hessen-Darmstadt , viceroy of Catalonia . The son of Pau Ignasi, Ramon de Dalmases, founder of the Acadèmia de les Bones Lletres, also lived this house the first half of the s. XVIII. The grandson of Ramon, Josep de Dalmases i Gomar, made a great renovation of the noble floor of the house, hiring decorator Pau Rigalt i Fargas to ennoble the main room.
