Pastor Chris visits the Palmach museum in Tel Aviv in Israel 11.5.18 – Day Two
On Friday the 11th of May, Pastor Chris began his day in appropriate fashion, visiting the Herzl museum, dedicated to the founder of the Zionist movement, Theodore Herzl. Following the museum’s visit, the Pastor was then guided to the Palmach museum in Tel Aviv, which honors the Elie Fighting Force of the Hagana, which was an underground military organization. The Pastor reported that he was incredibly moved by the heroic achievements of both groups of individuals who fought for their religion and the existence of their Land. This was an inspiring experience for the Pastor, has he been reminded of the importance of having strong faith.

Tel Aviv Museum rethinking the entire concept of the museum
For some, going to a museum is a less-than-exciting affair. One where you stand around and look at some paintings - maybe sit and discuss some of art. But the Tel Aviv Museum is rethinking the entire concept of the museum. For one month it's transforming into an art school, where everything is free.

I'm back in Israel and the first days I'm clearly having the most exciting time of my life! LOL
It's finally doing something as I'm going up north of Tel Aviv to the Beit Hatsutsot (Diaspora House) The Museum of the Jewish People. I'm having a late lunch at Azura, one of my favorite restaurants and buy some stuff at Good Pharm.

Rubin Israel Experience - Palmach Museum
Yesterday we went to the most amazing museum in Tel Aviv. It is the Palmach museum. It is a virtual tour of Israel's fight for Independence. I am familiar with the history of the war, but this really brought everything front and center. I was moved to tears that so many young people, 16-19 years old, fought for Israel and so many died. They were still kids as many soldiers are in Israel today. It was also very upsetting, but empowering at the same time that no other countries would help the Jews. Even countries like Britain and the United States stayed out of it. The U.N. basically handed the Jews the opportunity to fight for land that we were already on without any tools for victory. Miraculously and thankfully, the small Palmach and Haganah army of Israel won this war. I think my tears were in appreciation of what I have the opportunity to experience today.

I24NEWS TEL AVIV MUSEUMS ART / Presler Private Museum
preslermuseum.com, preslercollection.com
PRESLER MUSEUM SHOWS A NUMBER OF LOST AND HITHERTO UNKNOWN ART WORKS, DONE BY MAYOR FIGURES, WHO LEFT A EUROPEAN HOME IN WHICH LIFE HAD BECOME IMPOSSIBLE, TO LIVE IN THE VASTLY DIFFERENT, NEWLY EMERGING CULTURE OF ISRAEL, IN THE PERIOD JUST BEFORE AND AFTER STATEHOOD WAS ACHIEVED. THE FOCUS IS ON THE CONTENT OF THE PAINTINGS – OFTEN REFLECTIVE OF JEWISH LIFE IN EUROPE AND THE NASCENT STATE OF ISRAEL IN MID-TWENTIETH CENTURY – AND THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE WORKS, THE ARTISTS, ZIONISM, AND THE JEWISH PAST AND PRESENT. THE ARTISTS REPRESENT MANY ATTITUDES – RIGHT AND LEFT, MALE AND FEMALE, PROGRESSIVE AND CONSERVATIVE – TOWARDS THE ZIONIST PROJECT, JEWISH ART, AND IDENTITY. THE TENSIONS BETWEEN THE EUROPEAN DIASPORA AND THE ISRAELI EXPERIENCE, THE OLD AND NEW, THE PARTICULAR AND THE UNIVERSAL, AS WELL AS THE STORIES OF THE SHOAH AND REPRESSION UNDER COMMUNISM, ALONG WITH THE CREATION OF A JEWISH HOMELAND, ARE ALL PLAYED OUT IN THE WORKS ON DISPLAY, THE LIVES OF THE ARTISTS, AND IN THE WAY THEY INTERACT IN THE MUSEUM ITSELF.
