From Dushanbe to Hulbuk - Tajikistan 4K Travel Channel
Early in the morning, the convoy with three drivers arrived at our hotel in Dushanbe. They will take us from Dushanbe through the Pamir to Osh in Kyrgyzstan. Shane Dallas, also known as the Travel Camel, has brought together the participants of this tour. He is waiting for the drivers and the guide in the lobby of the Hotel Lotus.
The executing organization is Pamir Guides, based in Murghab. In fact, most of the drivers and guides of the company live in Osh but originate from Murgab or the surrounding area.
After a first get-together, we stow our luggage and set off. Destination of the first day is Kalaikhum, about 370 km away.
Shortly after Dushanbe, we are stopped on the first long straight road section. A policeman waved with a radar gun around in the air. It did not look like he could carry out a sensible measurement this way. Even so, the drivers had to pay for the supposedly too fast driving.
The Pamir Highway usually leads directly from Dushanbe to Kalaikhum. This route is also known as the northern route. The southern route leads via Hulbuk and Kulob to the valley of the Panj River. Many members of the Tajik government of Duschanbe originate from this region. This route is longer than the northern one, but the road surface is much better. At that time we do not yet appreciate this.
From Dushanbe, we drive eastwards but turn to the south after approx. 20 km. Then the road climbs continuously. After a short time, we pass the 4.5-kilometer-long Khatlon Tunnel (formerly called Chormaghzak Tunnel) before the road descends again into the Vakhsh Valley. A bridge crosses the river west of Nurek City.
Immediately afterward, the road climbs again and leads through the approximately 2.2 km long Shar-Shar Tunnel, renamed Ozodi (Freedom) Tunnel. Leaving the tunnel, the view opens towards the Nurek Dam, currently the highest dam in the world. A 300 m high dam holds back the lake to more than 70 km in length. It was built with Soviet help in 1961. An even higher dam with a height of 335 m is upstream under construction. It is to generate electricity for two further aluminum plants and for the export.
The making of the two tunnels started with Chinese help in 2007. China invested a total of $ 720 million in Tajikistan.

China investierte insgesamt $720 Millionen in Tadschikistan.

From Yashikul to Alichur - Tajikistan 4K Travel Channel
Once again we take a look at the valley basin of Bulunkul with the lake of the same name and the Yashikul. Although it looks very peaceful here, the decline in glaciers is causing people to worry here. Here, one lives on the fishing and the animals, which feed themselves with the grass around the Bulunkul. But when the lake disappears, people no longer have a livelihood here. We cross the village of Bulunkul and drive back to the Pamir Highway. Here, too, a last look at the Tuz Kul, then it goes on towards Alichur.
We pass the Sasykkul, another saltwater lake. It is now only 15 km to Alichur. In stoic calmness, our driver Khodaverdi passes the many potholes. The few cyclists and trucks that we meet give only little variety on the way.
Then the first houses of Alichur appear in the distance. The village was created on the banks of a small river that flows into the Yashikul. Alichur is located at about 3880 m above sea level.
We drive along the houses and look for our accommodation. Fortunately, there are some people on the move who we can ask. Past the mosque, we reach our Home Stay.
It is guarded by a yak and a dog. We leave our luggage and take a quick look around. The living and dining room is nicely set, and the hospitable people receive us with WELCOME.
The rooms have western beds and thick carpets. Everything looks very clean. In a corner, we discover a multi-socket adapter. Next to it is a box with a battery. The battery is charged by means of a small photovoltaic panel and the voltage is transferred from 12V to 220V via a converter. We are happy because it is enough to charge all our batteries. Next to the house is a yurt where guests can stay overnight.
The sanitary facilities meet little enthusiasm. One toilet, and one shower, which consists of a little stove with a bucket of water, must suffice for approx. 20 people.
Back outside, we realize that the yak guards its small cub and is always close by.

Like from Another Star ..... - Tajikistan 4K Travel Channel
The Yashilkul is at 3723 m above sea level, between up to 4500 m high mountains. Due to the altitude, there is hardly any vegetation here. Since the lake has a drain and the water flows into the Pandj river at Khorugh, it is a freshwater lake. In the sunlight, the water shimmers in a variety of colors.
But even more bizarre is the small saltwater lake, the Tuz Kul, on the Pamir Highway, on the way to Alichur. It is located in a wide valley basin, crisscrossed by salt crusts. The play of colors of nature is unique. If we were talking about a lunar landscape in the valley of the Panj river, then we think that this must be Mars.

Badakhshan TV: Festival of Healthy Living
Badakhshan TV visited the University of Central Asia’s 'Festival of Healthy Living' at the Khorog Campus in Tajikistan on Sunday November 4th. They produced a special news report in Tajik highlighting the event.
These kinds of festivals are useful and important for the community, said Khorog State University student, Loiq Rasuli. It raised our awareness on many aspects of our life, and how to follow a healthy lifestyle.
The aim of the festival is to raise the awareness of the GBAO community about the infectious diseases and healthy food including fruits and vegetables. To keep a healthy lifestyle, we must have health screenings periodically, said Alidovar Saodatsayrov, UCA student.
The Festival was organised by UCA's Student Health Council, and was attended by over 500 people from the Khorog community. Doctors from the Khorog Health Center provided health screenings on nutrition, optometry, diabetes, dentistry, oncology, and traditional medicine to the visitors.
Guests also had an opportunity to buy fruit, healthy juices, and were involved in playing other games and activities related to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Ismailis of the Pamirs:their Life and Spirit
POMIR, feet of the sun,
Man and mountain and river are one.
Through pride in the land and pride in the earth
The people now celebrate a rebirth.
To give is to love, to love is to give;
To sing is to breathe, to dance is to live.
The feet caress the earth below,
Drawing the strength, releasing the flow.
The hands reach up to the sky above,
Catching the beauty, expressing the love.
Freshness and innocence, tenderness, grace -
In this Garden of Eden my soul's found its place.
Earth, fire, water and air:
The fire's in my heart, the water's a tear
