Camping is located inside the Pan de Azúcar National Park, on the coast of the driest desert in the world, 30 km from Chañaral, it is an area far from urban centers. There is a telephone signal only in some points of the park, it consists of trails, viewpoints and a fishing cove that offers restaurant service.
With 34.614 hectares, Pan de Azucar (Sugar bread) National Park is the biggest protected area in the zone. In the park it is possible to find guanacos and Humboldt penguins in the Pan de Azucar Island, and a vegetation mostly of cacti. It`s located in northern Chañaral. The Pan de Azucar Bay is another area in the park in which you can find fishermen. The Pan de Azucar National Park is administrated by CONAF and its favorable weather allows the tourists to visit it all year long. It offers different services like an information center, a museum, housing and food.

Pan de Azúcar National Park is a national park of Chile. The park straddles the border between the Antofagasta Region and the Atacama Region. Its name, Parque Nacional Pan de Azúcar, means sugar loaf national park.
The park is located 30 km north of Chañaral and 180 km north of Copiapó. It was founded in 1985 and has an extension of 437.54 km² (including 1.1 km² of insular terrain). It is importance derives from the relative diversity of species.

Chañaral is a small coastal city and commune in the Atacama Region, Chile and capital of the Chañaral Province. A colourful town largely unknown by tourists, who generally head straight for towns such as San Pedro de Atacama. The town is considered unspoiled, with the benefit of having absolutely no high rise buildings. On the arid hills nearby is a lighthouse which casts a beam over the town during the night. Throughout the day and night, there is a lively, bustling atmosphere on the narrow streets. Despite it being coastal, it is not a typical seaside resort, partly because the ocean is contaminated by copper mining industry. Situated a short distance to the north is the Pan de Azúcar National Park.

We begonnen de dag met een boottochtje naar Isla Pan de Azucar om naar de Humboldt pinguins, pelikanen, zeeleeuwen en otters daar te gaan kijken. De schipper had een soort haak bij wijze van linkerhand, die ik in mijn rug gepord kreeg als hij een van de eerder genoemde dieren waarnam voordat ik ze in het vizier had.
