Panama Canal Tour
The Panamá Canal (Spanish: Canal de Panamá) is a 48-mile (77 km) ship canal in Panama that connects the Atlantic Ocean (via the Caribbean Sea) to the Pacific Ocean. The canal cuts across the Isthmus of Panama and is a key conduit for international maritime trade. There are locks at each end to lift ships up to Gatun Lake, an artificial lake created to reduce the amount of excavation work required for the canal, 26 metres (85 ft) above sea level. The current locks are 33.5 metres (110 ft) wide. A third, wider lane of locks is currently under construction and is due to open in April 2016 (source:

Panama Canal (Panama City) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Modern time wonder The Panama Canal in Panama City.
Panama City is the capital of the southern state of Central America’s land bridge. This vibrant, modern city is located in a tropical country at which Panama’s isthmus is only eighty miles wide. The country's name is famous because it contains the most important waterway in the world and the development of both urban and rural areas is due to the presence of the gigantic Panama Canal. This massive and amazingly expensive project of building technology is best understood by travelling along it, a journey that takes around nine hours and changes direction twice a day. Soon we will see the monumental steel bridge of Puenta De Las Américas, the only land connection between North and South America, since the channel cuts through both continents. After travelling twelve kilometres inland the ships must negotiate the first double lock, which takes around forty five minutes. After forty kilometres, the third lock system follows, the Gatún Locks, where the ships are lowered twenty six metres. This impressive process takes an hour in three successive lock chambers, each of which is about three hundred metres long. The dream of a water connection between the Atlantic and the Pacific came true within a period of ten years. A remarkable feat of engineering and water power!

Half-Day Trip To Colon from Panama City, Panama
When you visit Panama I think most people want to see both oceans. The Pacific is easy because that's Panama City, but the Atlantic can be a challenge.
Colon is Panama's 2nd largest city and it's on the Atlantic side. But it is considered unsafe and tourists are strongly advised against going on their own. However, many guided bus tours are available.
I hate taking guided bus tours because you always end up wasting part of your valuable day going to places you don't care about or being dragged into jewelry stores, tea houses, etc.
Despite all the warnings, I decided to go to Colon on my own and use a local guide to visit the places I really wanted to see. Buses leave all the time to Colon from Panama City and if you time your day (or half day) correctly you can return to Panama City on a near-empty Panama Canal Railway train at about 5:00 PM which affords great views of the canal ($25 one way in 2019).
In summary, I took a bus from Panama City at noon to the Colon Bus Terminal and immediately got into a cab (very important - you must immediately get into a cab - but they are everywhere), went to the Radisson Hotel ($5 fare, 10 blocks) where I hired a guide who took me to the places I wanted to see and dropped me at the train station. The whole 6 hour turnaround cost me $110 and I did only what I wanted while avoiding any danger in Colon. I'm sure this could be done cheaper depending on how much time you want to spend and your negotiating skills, etc. I paid my guide $50 plus a tip for about 2-3 hours but it can probably be done cheaper. But by hiring a guide at the best hotel in town vs. using cab drivers I felt like I got a better experience.
I even had some time to eat a late lunch back at the Radisson Hotel before going to the train station (although snack food is available on the train).
Have fun visiting Colon. There are other attractions I didn't see, like the Colon Free Zone (shopping), and a fort and other historical areas nearby.

Panama Canal Cruise - Day 6 Panama
Todays epic Panama Canal cruise vlog is sponsored by:
Hey Cruisers! It's day six of our Caribbean Princess Panama Canal cruise, and I am up bright and early to catch our first pass through the Panama Canal locks. We found out early on that this was a really long and slow process. So instead of having hours of probably boring footage we have opted to use time-lapse for the majority of our passage through the canal. Sadly, the video quality does suffer a bit in that the results are quite shaky, but we couldn't think of a better way to show the trip through the locks. I'll give you a bit of information about the Panama Canal, and how the Panama Canal locks work as we show the time lapse footage. After we make our fist pass through the locks we will spend some time in Gatun lake. There are some great photo opportunities here, and since quite a few people have booked excursions, it's a great time to explore the ship. I took this opportunity to find a better viewing area for our trip back through the locks. Through out our Caribbean Princess cruise we had been wanting to try the Ernesto Burger at the new Salty Dog restaurant, but we found out that it takes 25 minutes or more to prepare the burger. Now that the ship is half empty, and we've got lots of time, we'll head over to the Salty Dog and do a little burger research. You've got to see this burger to believe it! We round out this vlog with a little footage of an amazing, but limited port where we will pick up the cruise passengers that had booked excursions. Thanks for watching our Panama Canal cruise video. Be sure to check back soon. We'll be post video from our stop in beautiful Limon soon.

Immerse yourself in a whole ancient culture and experience the daily life of a genuine Indian tribe on this enlightening tour of the Embera Puru village. Sail down the jungle river in a handmade wooden canoe to reach the remote tribal village and spend a fascinating and unforgettable day learning all about their culture and lifestyle.
Leave the hustle and bustle of Panama City and the 21st century well behind you as you are picked up from your hotel and taken to the edge of Chagres national Park. Here you will begin your canoe journey, accompanied by a knowledgeable tribe member to guide your vessel. Keep your eyes peeled for toucans, sloths and monkeys as you cruise through the beautiful jungle for roughly an hour before arriving at the village.
You will be warmly greeted at the settlement with a traditional musical greeting and the local tribespeople will be happy to show you around their village. Listen to a captivating short talk about their lives, culture, lifestyle and crafts before being led through the jungle by a village elder to teach you about the medicinal plants they frequently use.
Upon your return to the village you will be treated to a delicious traditional meal of fried plantains with fish or chicken. Then be entertained by musical performances and a spectacular shamanic dance by the women of the village. You will have the opportunity to buy some of the villagers’ exquisite craftwork as a souvenir and they are always happy to pose for a photo to remind you of your truly unforgettable experience.
This is one of themost interesting tours with the Panama Canal Tour and the Old Headquarters tour.
