Exploring Casco Viejo in Panama City
We spent the day exploring Panama city, Panama and have some suggestions for things to do.
We started off at the Panama sign on the promenade that connects Casco Viejo to the newer part of the city. This is walking and biking area. We made our way to the old city from here.
Once in Casco Viejo we went to the Panama Cathedral which was under construction at the time. After that we went to the Plaza Francia to see the monument to the Panama Canal and also check out the amazing views.
After that we headed for lunch at a cute bookstore/restaurant called Papaya Planet and later we explored the outside of another church and the Plaza Tomas Herrera.
We then went to try delicious locally made chocolate at Oro Moreno. Lastly we went and tried some craft beer at La Rana Dorada.

Panama City, the capital of Panama, is a modern city framed by the Pacific Ocean and man-made Panama Canal. Casco Viejo, its cobblestoned historic center, is famed for colonial-era landmarks like the neoclassical Palacio Presidencial and bougainvillea-filled plazas lined with cafes and bars. The Miraflores Locks offers views of ships traversing the canal, an essential shipping route linking the Atlantic and Pacific.
Casco Viejo
Panama City’s hippest neighborhood is also its smallest. Just four avenues wide, Casco Viejo (literally meaning 'old quarter') is a UNESCO protected district and a barrio on the up. It wasn’t long ago that gangs patrolled these narrow brick streets and visitors kept far away, but these days the grand old colonial houses and crumbling pastel facades have become some of the capital’s most stylish addresses.
Panama Cathedral
The Metropolitan Cathedral of Panama is heir to the Cathedral erected by Pope Adrian VI in the great house of the Cacique Cémaco, when the Spaniards faced and offered found a population dedicated to Santa Maria la Antigua in 1510. In 1513 dictates the bula why Antigua is raised to the rank of dioceses and church to the rank of Cathedral, its first bishop was Fray Juan de Quevedo.
Plaza Francia
At the tip of the southern point of Casco Viejo, this beautiful plaza pays homage to the French role in the construction of the canal. Its large stone tablets and statues are dedicated to the memory of the 22,000 workers who died trying to create the canal.

Plaza Tomas Herra
Plaza Herra sits on the edge of the more gentrified area of Casco Viejo and its clear it has seen more illustrious times. The surrounding buildings, many large residences originally, have beautiful facades but stand in disrepair apart from one or two rest
La Rana Dorada
La Rana Dorada (“The Golden Frog”) is a craft-brewing operation that’s distinctly Panamanian. Their four distinct beers—a pilsner, a pale ale, a white beer, and a porter—are created at its Casco Viejo location, then served both there and at an accompanying pub in the northern end of the city. Despite its convivial English-style brewpub atmosphere, there’s a specific Central American pride brewed in with the hops—the operation even draws its name from a rare, endemic species of toad.
Oro Moreno
Since August 2015 these companies jointly engage in the production of high quality chocolates in an integrated manner. ForestFinance cultivates about 150 hectares of a prestigious cocoa in Bocas del Toro, which is then manually processed by Oro Moreno in Panama City.

10 Things You Can’t Miss in Panama
Get more Tips here!
If you’ve never considered a trip to Panama, the bridge to South America, then here are some destinations that just might change your mind.
1. In Panama City, Take the Metro
Even if you have the funds to travel by cab, you’re missing out if you don’t take advantage of the city’s metro. It’s cheap, clean, and it goes to pretty much every tourist attraction in the city.
2. San Jose Church
After the colonization, they built churches to convert the natives to Christianity. To adorn these little cathedrals, the Spanish used the natural resources plucked from their surroundings. Resulting in opulent buildings. It’s home to Panama’s famous golden altar, a centerpiece made from pure gold.
3. Butterfly Haven
It is filled to the brim with several gorgeous varieties of butterfly. Wander on your own or take one of the free guided tours and learn a lot about these beautiful, fluttering creatures.
4. Isla Zapatillas
It's a breath-taking plot of land that’s open to people who want to spend a day or two frolicking in the water. Whether you’re snorkeling, paddle-boating, or just relaxing by the water, you’ll love Isla Zapatillas.
5. The Lost Waterfalls
This hike delivers travelers to three beautiful waterfalls in western Panama. Along the way, you’ll get to see some of the country’s most interesting flora and fauna, including sloths and monkeys. It’s a gorgeous stretch of land, but fair warning: only experienced hikers need apply.
6. Boquete Outdoor Adventures
Customers of all ages have raved about Boquete Outdoor Adventures’ tours. White water rafting, cliff diving, and so much more are on offer when you book a tour.
7. Casco Viejo
This old quarter in Panama City is filled with rich historical sites. Simply walking through the storied Panamanian district is a treat for everyone. The beautiful architecture is a thrill to experience, and the various little boutiques and churches within Casco Viejo are sure to keep you occupied for hours.
8.The Panama Canal
The 48-mile long waterway allows freighters to carry cargo between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans in a fraction of the time. Be sure to grab a meal at one of the Canal’s restaurants so you can spend time watching massive ships supply goods to the other side of the world.
9. Mercado de Mariscos
Panama’s famous fish market. If you can stand the smell, the food offerings at the Mercado de Mariscos are amazing. Be sure to pick up a local Panamanian delicacy, ceviche — it might be the best in the world.
10. El Valle de Antón
One of the best parts of a Panamanian getaway is the incredible variety of the geography. Once you’ve basked in the sun-soaked beaches, head to the mountainous region of El Valle de Anton to enjoy Panama’s gorgeous forests, world class hikes, and a plentiful supply of waterfalls.
Which one of these things did you like the most?

Panama Airport PTY
Tocumen International Airport (Spanish: Aeropuerto Internacional de Tocumen) (IATA: PTY, ICAO: MPTO) is the international airport of Panama City, the capital of Panama. Street Food Panama
This video was taken in El Valle, Anton (Panama), This type of food or Street Food is also known as comida de feria or fairs food. Some of the food items are: arroz frito (fried rice), chow main (Chow main noodles), bbq chicken, chorizo on a stick, ensalada rosada (pink potato salad), torrejas de maiz (corn fritters), costillas fritas (fried pork belly),
Ultimate HANGOVER CURE? Tour of BEST Panama food dishes.
Good food cures everything, even the worst hangover. On this tasty tour we show favs. for Panama food dishes.
El Trapiche - Panama City, Latin America. My sister, Yuki and I visit the authentic El Trapiche restaurant in the heart of Panama City’s El Cangrejo. Built in 1983, the restaurant pre-dates “modern Panama City” and serves up classic Latin American cuisine.
Food in video…
1. Sancocho = The famous Panamanian “hangover cure” soup. The version shown in the video is the small portion size. Larger portion size is available - and comes with rice.
2. “Combinacion” sandwich on Hojaldra bread = Hojaldra bread is El Trapiche’s specialty. A flour fritter, you have your choice of pork, roast beef, chicken and ham, and the combinacion, which is all of the above.
3. Fiesta Panameña = Mixed platter of Panamanian specialties, including - ropa vieja, arroz con pollo, tamal de olla, yuca frita, carimanola, patacon, almojabano and chicarron (pork rind).
4. Chicken sandwich on Tortilla = Simple chicken sandwich on a Panamian tortilla. Unlike tortillas found in Mexico and other parts of Central America, Panamian tortillas resemble those found in South America. Thicker, it is almost like a small corn cake.
The meal cost us $40. They accept credit cards.

Multi Plaza Food Court in Panama City, Panama
It's Friday, the day before the May 2017 Panama Relocation Tour begins. Spent most of the day shopping at the Multi Plaza Mall in Panama City, Panama. We decided to check out the Food Court for a bite to eat. There was a nice assortment of local and international franchises and some nicer restaurants too. We chose a sit down lunch of Mexican food at Tacontento. Fabulous deal at $8.50 each, which included appetizer, drink, entree, and desert.
Visit Panama City: Siroco Restaurant in Casco Viejo
Cuisine is a blend of Mediterranean and International and we enjoyed a late lunch or dinner in Siroco; located in a historic building that housed Panama’s first barbershop.
The open kitchen faces an open air dining area while a disco gets going late at night on the second level. Our tour operator, Southern Explorations gave us a huge list of recommended restaurants in the Casco Viejo area. However, we just walked into Siroco, liked the atmosphere and ate. Like the saying, one man's meat is another man's poison.
