Half-Day Trip To Colon from Panama City, Panama
When you visit Panama I think most people want to see both oceans. The Pacific is easy because that's Panama City, but the Atlantic can be a challenge.
Colon is Panama's 2nd largest city and it's on the Atlantic side. But it is considered unsafe and tourists are strongly advised against going on their own. However, many guided bus tours are available.
I hate taking guided bus tours because you always end up wasting part of your valuable day going to places you don't care about or being dragged into jewelry stores, tea houses, etc.
Despite all the warnings, I decided to go to Colon on my own and use a local guide to visit the places I really wanted to see. Buses leave all the time to Colon from Panama City and if you time your day (or half day) correctly you can return to Panama City on a near-empty Panama Canal Railway train at about 5:00 PM which affords great views of the canal ($25 one way in 2019).
In summary, I took a bus from Panama City at noon to the Colon Bus Terminal and immediately got into a cab (very important - you must immediately get into a cab - but they are everywhere), went to the Radisson Hotel ($5 fare, 10 blocks) where I hired a guide who took me to the places I wanted to see and dropped me at the train station. The whole 6 hour turnaround cost me $110 and I did only what I wanted while avoiding any danger in Colon. I'm sure this could be done cheaper depending on how much time you want to spend and your negotiating skills, etc. I paid my guide $50 plus a tip for about 2-3 hours but it can probably be done cheaper. But by hiring a guide at the best hotel in town vs. using cab drivers I felt like I got a better experience.
I even had some time to eat a late lunch back at the Radisson Hotel before going to the train station (although snack food is available on the train).
Have fun visiting Colon. There are other attractions I didn't see, like the Colon Free Zone (shopping), and a fort and other historical areas nearby.

Exploring Panama City ( Casco Viejo | Climbing Ancon Hill) | Albrook (2019)
Travel vlog 187 | Panama Carnival | Country #13/195
In this episode we explore Casco Viejo, which is the old town area of Panama City. A once no go region has had lots of investment over the past few years and is now one of the main places to go with nice bars and restaurants.
We take a trip on the subway (underground Metro train) to Albrook Bus station, have a look around Albrook Shopping Mall and take a bus to Punta Culebra,
We also climbed Ancon Hill which gives you wonderful aerial views over Panama City
Hope you enjoy this episode

Panama City / Panama Travel Vlog #178 / The Way We Saw It
Welcome to Panama City. Some say it is Miami on LSD, it certainly has a lot of contrast between the glitzy new town and the Casco Viejo oder Casco Antiguo, the old town with its colonial buildings about to be rehabilitated.
Follow us on this first day in Panama City, or PTY as the locals abbreviate it according to the airport code. Some also just call it the City... We will show you both sides of the capital of the state of Panama.

Discover Panama City - The Gateway to Central America | 90+ Countries With 3 Kids
Welcome to Panama City, the capital and largest city of Panama!
If you google Panama, one of the first things that will appear in your search will probably be the famous Panama Canal. That is no surprise, as it is the biggest tourist attraction in this Central American country.
Why is this 80-kilometer long canal so amazing you ask? Well, it is a shipping shortcut that connects the Atlantic and Pacific ocean, significantly shortening all water travels.
Even though the idea of such canal dates back to 1513, the construction didn’t start until the late nineteenth century. The project was delegated to French engineers, but it had to be terminated due to skyrocketing costs, harsh conditions and heavy personnel losses caused by tropical diseases.
The project was restarted once Panama gained independence from Colombia and signed a ratified agreement with the USA. On 1 April 1914, the construction was officially completed, but the opening for commercial traffic was postponed for 15 August 1914 due to the outbreak of World War I.
Politically, the Panama Canal remained a part of the US territory of until 1977, when the process of transferring territorial control to Panama officially began. It was finally completed on 31 December 1999.
Today, this technological marvel operates around-the-clock, with some 40 vessels passing through each day. The system consists of three sets of locks, which raise ships from sea level to the same height of the Gatun Lake. The canal allows shippers of commercial goods to save both time and money, which results in lower consumer prices for everyone.
Enjoy the video and be sure to let us know where you're watching from!

Arriving in the capital of Panama, on a beautiful, clear day, checking out Panama City.
Was here in Panama City a few years ago, and I had a great time, and enjoyed the city, which is unusual for capital cities, as they are usually big and ugly, but when you get to know Panama City and your way around, it can be a very enjoyable city.
Walked around the old part of Panama City known as Casco Viejo and then through the downtown and modern part of Panama City.
Will be flying from Panama City to Medellin tomorrow. Stay tuned for more videos to come!

10 Things You Can’t Miss in Panama
Get more Tips here!
If you’ve never considered a trip to Panama, the bridge to South America, then here are some destinations that just might change your mind.
1. In Panama City, Take the Metro
Even if you have the funds to travel by cab, you’re missing out if you don’t take advantage of the city’s metro. It’s cheap, clean, and it goes to pretty much every tourist attraction in the city.
2. San Jose Church
After the colonization, they built churches to convert the natives to Christianity. To adorn these little cathedrals, the Spanish used the natural resources plucked from their surroundings. Resulting in opulent buildings. It’s home to Panama’s famous golden altar, a centerpiece made from pure gold.
3. Butterfly Haven
