On October 29, 1997, it was admitted into the World Biosphere Reserves by the United Nations.
On May 8, 2007, it was rated as the State 5A-Level Scenic Area by China National Tourism Administration.
Scenic Features
Jiuzhaigou Valley always delights tourists from home and abroad with its emerald lakes, layered waterfalls, colorful forests, snow-clad peaks and Tibetan customs. Its charm lies in the primitive, natural and idyllic beauty of its landscapes. As a tourist resort, it boasts 108 lakes, 47 springs, 17 splashing waterfalls, 11 turbulent streams, 5 shoals and 9 Tibetan villages.
The Nuorilang Waterfal
The Nuorilang Waterfall has a drop in height of 30 meters and is over 270 meters wide. As a symbol of Jiuzhaigou, it is one of China’s largest calcium falls. The waterfall is famed for its breadth and magnificence for which it gets its name in the Tibetan language.
The Five-Flower Lake
The Five-Flower Lake, which is 2,472 meters above sea level and only 5 meters deep, is the pride of Jiuzhaigou. Owning to the varying depths of the water and tufa sediments on the bottom, as well as the diversity of algae and bryophyte in the lake, waters assume a variety of colors, such as light yellow, emerald, deep and dark blue. Reflected in the sunlight, the bright colors look like the beautiful shades of the peacock’s fine feathers.
The Shuzheng Lakes
The scenic spot of the Shuzheng Lakes is at the entrance to the magnificent Jiuzhaigou, leading into the rest of the gullies. The attraction here lies in the beauty of lakes. The clear water, in shades of bright blue, varies in color with water-depth, the weather and hues of mountains.
The Pearl Shoal
The Pearl Shoal, at an elevation of 2,433 meters above sea level, is a huge fan-like calcium beach. Scattered around are a great variety of biological calcium species of different sizes due to the unique karst topography. A clear stream runs down a slope and spreads over the shoal, splashing water beads about, like millions of silver pearls bouncing in the sun shine.
The Reed Lake
The Reed Lake at an elevation of 2,140 meters above sea level is actually a semi-marsh lake, where reeds abound and birds flock. A clear brook zigzags its way through the marsh. When the reeds come into bloom, the jade-green meandering brook presents a striking contrast to the yellow spread of reeds.
The Spark Lake
When the morning mist has dispersed and the sun has risen, the crystal droplets of water in the lake look like sparks flashing, twinkling and dancing on the lake surface.
The Panda Lake and the Arrow Bamboo Lake
The road near the Five-Flower Lake winds its way up the steep mountain. You follow it until you come to a turn, and two lakes, the Panda Lake and the Arrow Bamboo Lake, come into view. Both lakes are so immense that their waters seem to join in the sky on the horizon. The names of lakes suggest that pandas will come here to drink the water in the lake and eat the arrow bamboos on the shore.
The Long Lake
At the end of Zezhawa Gully is the long lake, which is the broadest, deepest and highest lake in Jiuzhaigou. At an elevation of 3,000 meters above sea level, the Long Lake is 7.5 kilometers long and 103 meters deep at its deepest point.

Amazing Places On Earth - Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park
Jiuzhaigou park is probably the most beautiful place I have ever been to and I have been around! Jiuzhaigou Valley is a mountainous area with series of lakes and waterfalls containing clear, mineral-rich water. It is located in China's Northern Sichuan Province. And Jiuzhai Valley is probably also the most well-preserved natural area in China.
More than 100 lakes of different sizes are scattered in the valley. These lakes with brilliant colors are called “haizi” by the local Tibetan people, which means the sea. It is these alpine lakes that make Jiuzhaigou a fantastic place. Disposed in a stepped-like fashion in the valley, the lakes are always connected with waterfalls. Between the primeval forests and the lakes, there are nine villages of Tibetan people, and the name Jiuzhaigou means Nine Village Valley.
The primeval forest at Jiuzhaigou is nearly 30,000 acres, which contains more than 2,500 rare plants and a dozen rare animals under state protection including pandas, which also have been found here. The discovery of Jiuzhaigou is related to a panda-rescue program. The pandas once were endangered because of the blooming of arrow bamboos here. When experts came to rescue the pandas they were startled by the beauty of Jiuzhaigou. Thus Jiuzhaigou became a protected scenic area.
The magic of Jiuzhaigou lies in the water – the alpine lakes and waterfalls. Pure and clear as they are, the lakes of Jiuzhaigou have gorgeous colors. The colors of the lakes change with the variance in light angle and intensity and changing of seasons. The lakes at Jiuzhaigou are of different types and shapes. In Shuzheng Valley, Rize Valley and Zechawa Valley, there are 114 lakes of different sizes disposing like a ladder. The 19 lakes in Shuzheng Valley are named “seas of Shuzheng”. Each is over 100 meters in distance to another.

Giant metal puffer fish in China sparks spending row
Subscribe to ITN News:
A giant copper puffer fish being built in China has caused a major row over state spending. The government has reportedly spent $11 million so far on the viewing platform which has not yet been finished. The structure is roughly the same height as New York's Statue of Liberty and the design is inspired by the globefish, which is a fish native to Yangzhong county, where it is based. The tower is encased in 8,920 copper plates and has attracted plenty of attention but not all of it positive. Report by Ashley Fudge.

Beautiful JiuZhaiGou Valley - Five Flower Lake [HD]
from 'JiuZhaiGou Valley World Heritage' documentary (2009)

Here is my playlist of my 'Wonderful Chill Out Music':
Longqingxia Scenic Area,Beijing,china
Longqingxia Scenic Area is located at the mouth of the Yanqing Old City River, in the northeast of Yanqing County. It is 53 miles (85 kilometers) from Beijing City. The scenic spot is famous for its gorge. Visitors compare the scenery of the gorge to the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, but its mountains are much steeper than those along the Yangtze. The scenery also resembles the Li River in Guilin, but the water here is much clearer.
When you arrive at Longqing Gorge, the first thing you will see is the Longqing Dam. The 230-foot-high (70-meter-high) dam is inset between hills. Looking to the north side from the dam, the picturesque scenery of hills and white clouds reflected in deep green water can be appreciated.
But how do you get onto the dam? Use the elevator inside the body of an artificial dragon. The elevator is hidden in the majestic dragon. It is 846 feet (258 meters) long and can take people to a height of 295 feet (90 meters).
Getting down from the dam, you have to enjoy the river and hills by cruise. Every turn around a hill in the river will surprise you because of the new view. The scenery here combines the charm of rivers in southern China and the magnificence of mountains in northern China, which will give you a deep impression. Along the river you will see the heavily forested steep cliffs and the bare limestone in different fantastic shapes, eroded by the natural power of water. To some extent, it is much like Li River. Many of these rocks and hills have their own names, such as: Comb Hill, Immortal Taoist Temple, Flowers Cave and Jingang Temple.
The most important spot that you must have a look is the Comb Hill, also known as Solitary Beauty Peak, which is 230 feet (about 70 meters) high and surrounded by water. It is the landmark in Longqing Gorge.
Flowers Cave is another must-see spot of Longqing Gorge, which covers 0.74 acre (3,000 square meters). There are more than 1,650 kinds of artificial trees and flowers decorated with birds and other animals in the cave. The flowers in the cave are divided into several themes like: Blooming Flowers and Northern Scenery, which will, of course, leave a deep impression for visitors.
After enjoying the beautiful natural scenery on cruise, there are many other activities. Bungee jumping from a hill, taking cableway to appreciate the blue sky and the clean water, or boating by yourself on the river are some good choices. However, these items are charged independently for different prices.
In addition, Longqing Gorge is special for its ice lantern show in winter from January to February. Although every year the lantern show has its own theme, the spectacular icefall against the dam wall is always the highlight. If you are keen to see the marvelous combination of natural wonder and human creativity, you can go there during the winter.
Ways to get there:
1. Take bus 919 or 919 Express from Deshengmen Station to Yanqing Dongguan Station. Then transfer to bus Y15 and get off at Longqingxia (Longqing Gorge) Station. From Yanqing Dongguan, tourists can also transfer to bus Y40 and get off at Longqingxia Lukou Station.
2. Take bus 919 or 919 Express from Deshengmen Station to Guishui Beijie Nan Station. Then take bus 875 and get off at Longqingxia Station.
After getting off the bus, visitors can walk for 15 minutes or take the shuttle bus which costs CNY 5 for a single trip to the entrance.
