The Vanishing Ancient City- Kingdom of Panduwasnuwara- FLFN Wayamba University of Sri Lanka
Team Wizard Weavers of the second year students (2016/2017) of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka prepared a video documentary about the Vanishing Ancient City(Kingdom of Panduwasnuwara) for their project for the subject Social Harmony and Conflict Resolution.
Panduwasnuwara is an ancient city in the Kurunegala area which functioned as the capital of Sri Lanka for a very brief period. King Parakramabahu set up his temporary capital in this city during the 12th century.During this period, Panduwasnuwara was the city housing the sacred tooth relic which was brought back to Sri Lanka from India by King Parakramabahu. Some of the stone carvings and the site which contains the ruins of ancient buildings is spread over an area of 20 hectares, of which some sections have still not been excavated.
The first thing that we all will see as we enter the site is the 6m and the huge wall of the citadel (fort). The compound contains remnants of many dagobas, image houses (pilimage), meeting halls, accommodation quarters for monks and even ancient latrines.Although Panduwasnuwara is not as spectacular a sight as the capital cities Anuradhapura or Polonnaruwa, it is still worth exploring, on opportunity.

වයඹ පෞඪත්වය Kingdom Of Panduwasnura In North Western province Srilanka
Panduwasnuwara is an ancient capital, situated in Kurunegala District, Sri Lanka. It is said to be the controlling centre known as Parakramapura of Dakkhinadesa (South Country) in the 12th century, when it was ruled by Parakramabahu. The remaining ruins of the ancient kingdom still can be seen at Kotampitiya area which lies along Wariyapola-Chilaw main road about 19 km (12 mi) away from Wariyapola town.
As the Successor of his uncle king Kirti Sri Megha, prince Parakramabahu became the ruler of Dakkhinadesa in 1140 A.D.[3] It was the first capital of Parakramabahu and one of the three discrete kingdoms into which the Island was divided.[4] Historical evidences prove that king Parakramabahu had made steps to develop the infrastructure and other common facilities in the ruling territory. During this time period he had constructed a separate tooth temple at Panduwasnuwara Raja Maha Vihara premises for tooth relic of Buddha to keep it safe. After series of successful battles with his enemies Parakramabahu managed to conquer the control of entire nation and moved to Polonnaruwa where his new capital was built. The tooth relic of Buddha was also brought with him as the reputed symbol of principality.

Ridi Viharaya - රිදී විහාරය ( Silver Temple), Kurunegala, Sri Lanka
Ridi Viharaya has a long history which is dated back in Anuradapura Kingdom time. This temple was done by King Dutugemunu, who ruled Sri Lanka from 161 BC to 137 BC.
According to the historical records, some merchants were traveling from Anuradapura to Hill Country(Malaya rata) and saw a riped Jackfruit hanging on a branch. They cut it from stalk and thought of giving a part as alms to a Buddhist monk.
There were four monks (Arhants) appeared and went away after accepting the alms. Then another four came and three left after accepting the alms.
Once the merchants started to leave the place, the remaining arhat showed them a path and ask them to go that way. On their way through it, they found a cave with Silver ore in it.
They took a piece of silver to the King Dutugemunu and inform him about what they found. King Dutugemunu was facing some difficulties in finding the funds to complete the great Ruwanmeli Maha Seya at that time., He was very happy about this news. Revenue from this Silver was used to compete the Ruwanmeli Maha Seya.
In return, king decided to build a temple by that the cave, its call Ridi Viharaya. He employed 300 stone masons and 700 other people including his chief artisan Vishwakarma Prathiraja Ridi Viharaya went on a major revival process in kandian time under king Keerthi Sri Rajasingha (1747-1782). The Uda Viharaya ( Upper temple) was done at that time.

Welcome to the citadel of Yapahuwa HD 1/2
After the collapse of the Dambadeniya Kingdom, due to the Dravidayan invasion, King Buwanaka Bahu the first transformed Yapahuwa to be his new kingdom in the 13th century. Known to have once preserved the temple of the tooth, the outer fortification of the Yapahuwa kingdom is 7 Meters higher than the outer fortification of Sigiriya, a UNESCO world heritage site.
The newly introduced Wayaba Cultural Quadrangle by the Central Cultural Fund consists of conserving four main sites in the South of Sri Lanka, that is Yapahuwa, Dambadeniya, Kurunegala and Panduwasnuwara. CCF TV brings to you the story of Yapahuwa.

Travelling to Yapahuwa srilanka
Yapahuwa (Sinhalese language : යාපහුව) was one of the ephemeral capitals of medieval Sri Lanka. The citadel of Yapahuwa lying midway between Kurunagala and Anuradhapura was built around a huge granite rock rising abruptly almost a hundred meters above the surrounding lowlands.
In 1272, King Bhuvenakabahu transferred the capital from Polonnaruwa to Yapahuwa in the face of Dravidian invasions from South India, bringing the Sacred Tooth Relic with him. Following the death of King Bhuvenakabahu in 1284, the Pandyans of South India invaded Sri Lanka once again, and succeeded in capturing Sacred Tooth Relic. Following its capture, Yapahuwa was largely abandoned and inhabited by Buddhist monks and religious ascetics.
