Taken from Pangkor Laut Resort:
Nestled amidst an ancient rainforest, on a private island fringed by white sandy beaches and emerald waters lies Pangkor Laut Resort. Set along the Straits of Malacca, three miles off the West Coast of Malaysia, discover a piece of paradise 2 million years in the making.
Of the island's 300 acres, only a fraction has been developed to house this peaceful luxury resort and its Estates. Declared a paradise by the late Pavarotti and previously voted 'Number One in the World' by Condé Nast Traveller; here, wooden buildings blend seamlessly into the forest, walls curve around foliage, and roofs open up to allow trees to continue on their journey to the sky.
Resting beneath the shade of forest giants as old as the land, this island is not only home to one of the world’s premier resorts but also to variety of wildlife. Long-tailed macaques and oriental pied hornbills perch in the branches above while white-bellied sea eagles soar overhead and large monitor lizards sunbathe on the island’s rocky outcrops.
The Strait of Malacca:
The Strait of Malacca or Straits of Malacca is a narrow, 550 mi stretch of water between the Malay Peninsula and the Indonesian island of Sumatra. As the main shipping channel between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, it is one of the most important shipping lanes in the world.
About Malaysia:
To know Malaysia is to love Malaysia - a bubbling, bustling melting-pot of races and religions where Malays, Indians, Chinese and many other ethnic groups live together in peace and harmony. Malaysia’s multiculturalism has made this country a gastronomical paradise and home to hundreds of colourful festivals. It's no wonder that malaysians love celebrating and socialising. As a people, Malaysians are very relaxed, warm and friendly.
Geographically, Malaysia is almost as diverse as its culture. 11 states and 2 federal territories (Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya) form Peninsular Malaysia which is separated by the South China Sea from East Malaysia which includes the 2 states (Sabah and Sarawak on the island of Borneo) and a third federal territory, the island of Labuan.

Maldives of Malaysia | PANGKOR ISLAND
Pangkor Island ( Malay: #Pulau_Pangkor ) is a resort island in Manjung District, Perak, #Malaysia . It has a population of approximately 25,000. Nearby islands include Pangkor Laut Island, Giam Island, Mentagor Island, Simpan Island, and Tukun Terindak Island. The major industries of the island are tourism and fishing.
Pangkor Island has a land area of 18km2[2] and is 3.5 kilometres (2.2 mi) from Peninsular Malaysia. The interior of the island is forested and is home to 65 reptile species, 17 amphibian species, and 82 total herpetofaunal species.
Historically, Pangkor was a refuge for local fishermen, merchants and pirates. In the 17th century, the Dutch built a fort to control the Perak tin trade known as the Dutch Fort. In 1874, it was the location of a historical treaty between the British government and a contender for the Perak throne (the Pangkor Treaty), which began the British colonial domination of the Malay Peninsula. The old British name for the Pangkor Island group was the Dindings.

Pluses:
Despite a patchy start to the trip (due to heavy rain and thunderstorm during our scheduled transfer to Pangkor Laut resort), the process of checking in was smooth and we had a wonderful stay. Breakfast buffet was a true delight every morning. The facilities were kept clean and well managed. Staff were very accommodating to have birthday cake delivered to our villa as a surprise for my husband on the night we arrived. We were surrounded by beautiful wildlife whilst staying in the hill villa; monkeys, hornbills, lizards and even got to chill out with a green tree snake on the balcony of our villa. Loved it, and we will definitely be back soon!
The resort is soooo beautiful. We love to go to the emerald bay, the beach there was beautiful & calming and the water literally as green as the emerald! The entire resort area were beautiful and interesting to explore. Pangkor Laut Resort definitely is a paradise on earth!
Wow! Our first ever stay in a private island resort and I wonder why we have never done it before (ignoring price, of course)! The hill villa was stunning - fantastic view over the jetty and got the sounds of the jungle, which was nice! Beautiful infinity pool with cocktails served poolside, and the beach was very enjoyable too. The shuttle cars are always on hand to take you wherever you want to go, and the restaurants had great variety (breakfast in particular had a ridiculous amount of choice). The spa was also well worth the money, as were the watersports! The staff were all fantastic and it was incredibly easy to book whatever we wanted to do. We stayed for 6 nights, which allowed us to try all of the restaurants and activities without feeling rushed, and it was the perfect place to relax and enjoy a week of our honeymoon!
Minuses:
The wine in the mini bar was reasonably priced, but not the best selection. It also wasn't clear whether the wine cellar in the feat village was to purchase wine, or just for use in the restaurant. Inconsistent cocktail choices between the various restaurants and bars was also surprising (as the bars all looked to have the same spirits). Finally, the Straits is billed as a fine dining restaurant, and priced accordingly. We went on the Indian day, and the food was delicious, but I wouldn't say it was tastier than the Feast Village curries which are a fraction of the price for essentially the same food. It isn't really fine dining. If you are after more of a fine dining experience, the Fisherman's Cove restaurant is the place to go - similar price to the Straits but the experience and food was more what I would associate as being fine dining.
