A long drive from Nubra Valley to Pangong lake & Tsomoriri lake which is really a less travelled road. After Tsomoriri Lake, we reach the salt lake Tsokar and then take the Manali Leh highway to reach Leh. In the end, we take the Srinagar Leh highway to visit Lamayuru Moonland of Ladakh.

Chang La Pass (17,590 ft), The second highest motorable road in the world. We were very lucky to be at this location after visiting the highest motarable road at Khardung la Pass.There are certain precautions necessary while visiting this place due the cold and chill climate and less of oxygen due to the altitude. 15 -20 minutes would be the ideal time one can spend on the Chang la pass. So, it is advised not to exert here, finish your photography within minutes. The breathtaking views from this region leave any visitor speechless and will be a memorable adventure trip.

Road to China Border | Pangong Tso Lake to Rezang La War Memorial - Ladakh Road Trip

Pangong Tso to Rezang La War Memorial (Near China border. Of course you can not go to china border). One of my purposes of doing this road trip is to undergo the difficulties and challenges that our Indian soldiers had been through in 1962 and till date. The altitude is 16000 Ft. If you walk for 50 meters you are out of breath. Not to mention the freezing temperatures and the chilling stormy winds.

But I must say I did enjoy the drive. It was beautiful and difficult. You drive next to the beautiful Pangong Lake for 30 Kms. Their is no road at all. You just drive along the tire tracks (in case you are not aware of the route). The whole route is deserted. I just crossed 2-3 vehicles on the way. Some one had advised me not to drive alone. Now I understand why. Do watch the full video and you will fall in love with this driver (if you are adventure lover). Not for those who are looking for a comfortable / luxurious drive. Of course you leave comfort & luxury behind as you go far away from the city.

It is 134 km (83 mi) long and extends from India to China. Approximately 60% of the length of the lake lies in China. The lake is 5 km (3.1 mi) wide at its broadest point. All together it covers 604 km2. During winter the lake freezes completely, despite being saline water.

The Chang La (elevation 5,360 m or 17,590 ft) is a high mountain pass in Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, India. It is claimed to be the second highest motor-able road in the world (the highest are either the Marsimik La or Mana Pass). Chang La is approached from Leh via Kharu and Sakti village by an asphalt road. The climb is very steep and requires a careful drive. The stretch of 10-15 km road on either side from Chang la is loose dirt and slush. During the summer months specifically the tourist season, small streams appear across the road, making the climb a challenge for the bikers. The descent from Chang La towards Tangtse or Darbuk is again very steep. As per the medics, it is advisable to not stay at the top for more than 20-25 mins as it could be detrimental to health owing to its high altitude.
The Chang La is on the route to Pangong Lake from Leh. The name literally means Northern Pass (Chang = north, La = Pass). The small town of Tangste is the nearest settlement. The Changla Pass is the main gateway for the Changthang Plateau situated in the Himalayas. The nomadic tribes of the region are collectively known as the Changpa or Chang-pa. The world’s highest research station, established by the Defence Research and Development Organisation is functional in Chang La at a height of 17,664 ft.

Pangong Tso, Tibetan for high grassland lake, also referred to as Pangong Lake, is an endorheic lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 4,350 m (14,270 ft). The lake is in the process of being identified under the Ramsar Convention as a wetland of international importance. This will be the first trans-boundary wetland in South Asia under the convention.

Bikers eagerly wait for the news of leh manali highway getting open every year. The craze of going ladakh cannot be seized by one and every year more and more tourist check off Ladakh from their bucket list to visit back again. We being our traveler self witnessed all this and carried all the memories in our heart and came back with a promise to show you Ladakh like never before. The series is going to be epic. Ladakh (land of high passes) is a region in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir that currently extends from the Siachen Glacier in the Karakoram range to the main Great Himalayas to the south, inhabited by people of Indo-Aryan and Tibetan descent. It is one of the most sparsely populated regions in Jammu and Kashmir and its culture and history are closely related to that of Tibet. Ladakh is renowned for its remote mountain beauty and culture.

The largest town in Ladakh is Leh, followed by Kargil. The government of Jammu and Kashmir created a separate administrative division from Kashmir division with headquarters on rotational basis 6month(summer) in kargil and 6month in leh(winter) Tibetan Buddhists (39.7%) and Hindus (12.1%) collectively represent the majority of the population while a plurality of Ladakhis (46.4%) are Muslims (mainly Shia).

Leh to Pangong Tso Drive & Spectacular Lake Views - Ladakh

The most popular sightseeing trip from Leh would be the Pangong Tso circuit. The route is through 17,586’ Changla Pass and Changthang Cold Desert Sanctuary. In early summer , when the pass opens with clearing of snow packed roads, it offers astounding views. For the tourists, In cold and windy conditions the complementary hot cup of tea provided by Indian Army gets the circulation going. Beyond Tangtse, while passing through Wildlife Sanctuary , the oft seen Mermot offers some amusement . The Pangong Tso view from different locations while traveling as well from Spangmik with colors varying from Cobalt Blue to Turquoise to Azure is fascinating. The morning scenario of Brown headed Gulls gliding against the backdrops of brown hills and later setting on lake water and screaming with ecstasy is memorable. THE LAKE VIEWS HAVE NOT BEEN ENHANCED FOR COLOR.
