Welcome to Panama City, Panama, otherwise known as The Gateway to the Americas! Panama City is famous for its marvelous engineering feat of the Panama Canal, which opened in 1914, allowing for global trade and commerce. We visit the Miraflores Visitor Center viewing platform and watch as ships from around the world cross through the Panama Canal.
We discover that this city has so much more to offer outside of the Panama Canal. We visit the Old Town of Casco Viejo, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We also visit the Biomuseo, where we tour the gardens and the architecture designed by Frank Gehry. Lastly, we visit the French Quarter which has panoramic views of the Bridge of the Americas.

Traveling by train in Panama | DW Documentary
The Panama Canal Railway runs parallel to the Panama Canal, connecting the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean. The train ride is a popular journey among tourists.
Although much older than the famous canal, the Panama Rail Road never enjoyed the same recognition. The maiden voyage across the Isthumus of Panama in 1855 was the first train to run from ocean to ocean. Its significance was lost, however, just four decades later when the U.S. opened a route connecting the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. Today a train ride along the old line is a treat for tourists.
Ever since it opened for commercial operations in 1914, the Panama Canal has been greatly beneficial to the economy in Central America. Eighty-two kilometers long, it meant goods could be shipped from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast much faster; a single journey could be reduced by a good three weeks. From 1914 until 1979 the canal was under the control of the United States. For two decades it was then jointly controlled by the US and Panama and in 1999 full control was given to Panama. This incredible feat of engineering is the pride and joy of its citizens and generates around 40% of the national income. But before the canal, the Panama railway was the first to affectively connect the Atlantic with the Pacific. Today, 77-kilometre route between Balboa harbor in Panama City and the port of Cristóbal on the Atlantic is used to transport both freight and passengers. The panorama cars offer tourists a unique view of the canal. On the small islands off the Caribbean coast, they can also visit the Kuna, an indigenous people with a unique way of life. The Casco Viejo, the historic quarter of Panama City, is also well-worth a stopover.

Panama Canal and Casco Viejo - Panama Travel
We leave the Jungle Land Panama floating lodge and head to the Miraflores Locks. After a brief stop at the locks, we make our way to the UNESCO World Heritage neighborhood of Casco Viejo in Panama City. We check in to the terrific American Trade Hotel and then explore the area.

Gamboa Rainforest Resort Aerial Tram Tour in Panama
The glide through the jungle on the Aerial Tram allowed us to see the rainforest. Our tour limited our animal watching excursion due to the heavy rain. However, we were lucky to view a toucan.
Viewing the forest from the top of the Swiss-engineered aerial tram system was breathtaking. Gliding smoothly through the treetops, we experienced the wildlife sounds and peace of the tropical rainforest firsthand.
A Gamboa’s tour guide accompanied us throughout the entire tour. The 1.2-kilometer (3/4 mile) ride culminates at a hilltop where we had the opportunity to visit the Observation Tower. After walking up the spiral ramp, we experienced a panoramic view of the:

Panama City, Panama is an amazing place. Modern skyscrapers tower over dilapidated slums. Hills surround the city and pop up within the metropolis out of nowhere. The colonial part of the city, the Casco Antiguo rests on a peninsula and offers stunning views of the Panama City skyline. You will also see the fish market and small fishing boats that still pull into the harbor to unload their catches for the day.

Okay so in this vlog I will take you guys with me to the Agua Clara Visitor Center in Colón, #Panamá. This a really nice stop to make if you're visiting #Colón (Atlantic side of Panama). Especially if you're doing a day to Colón. Make sure you add this to your itinerary!
This is probably the best place to come see how the #PanamaCanal works and to see how the new Agua Clara Locks work too. The observation deck is really nice, plenty of space and the best of all it's not crowded. This center offers some stunning panoramic view of the Lake #Gatun and the locks. You'll have the opportunity to watch some of the world's biggest ships transit the canal.
