Pancake Rocks, Paparoa National Park, New Zealand South Island Road Trip (4K)
This video is about Pancake Rocks at South Island, NZ. It is on our way driving from Greymouth to Nelson via the west coast line. A must visit for at least 1 to 2 hours around this amazing place. There is also a coffee/restaurant near the entrance where you can have a nice lunch or some snacks.
Kayaking with AMAZING views - Paparoa National Park, New Zealand
Am I really in New Zealand right now? I found myself asking that question throughout the whole day that I explored Paparoa National Park in New Zealand's South Island, but especially during my kayak adventure. It felt like I teleported to an African jungle, or a Hawaiian island, or a different planet altogether. It was pretty close to an out-of-body experience.
I stumbled upon this gem while I was hitchhiking down the west coast and the guy who picked me up drove right past it. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw how beautiful it was, lightly covered in haze during golden hour. So I HAD to delay my plans and spend the next day exploring this beautiful place.
It is right next to the ocean and the town of Punakaiki. Not only does it have incredible limestone gorges, it has the Pancake Rocks with a natural blowhole, caves, animal watching, and short or multi-day treks. After I hiked around, I waited until golden hour to take a kayak up the gorge. The views were incredible. I definitely recommend Paparoa National Park to those traveling in New Zealand.

Bullock Creek, Paparoa National Park, Punakaiki, West Coast, New Zealand
The tranquil beauty of Bullock Creek as it runs through thick subtropical rainforest in a deep limestone gorge at Punakaiki on the West Coast of New Zealands South Island. You can hear bellbirds, which I have called, and am encouraging to sing by attempting to mimic their calls. At the end of the video, a black fantail flys into the frame & lands on the mossy rocks.
Amazing Split Apple Rock, Abel Tasman National Park Half Day Cruise, NZ South Island Roadtrip 4K
This video is about my trip to Abel Tasman National Park on South Island, New Zealand in Feb, 2016. The park is a wilderness reserve at the north end of New Zealand’s South Island. It’s known for the Abel Tasman Coast Track, a long trail winding over beaches and across ridges between Marahau in the south and Wainui in the north. The headland at Separation Point is home to New Zealand fur seal colonies. Little blue penguins, bottlenose dolphins and seals inhabit the Tonga Island Marine Reserve. You can also see the amazing Split Apple Rock on the cruise.
Paparoa NP and Punakaiki Pancake Rocks New Zealand
Paparoa National Park is on the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It was established in 1987 and encompasses 306 km2. Paparoa NP is best known for Punakaiki's Pancake Rocks and Blowholes, both of which are spectacluar and must-see when visiting the West Coast. The Pancake Rocks are columns of limestone resembling stacks of pancakes. At high tide with a heavy swell running, seawater is forced upwards through blowholes. The Truman Track is a very popular short walk; it begins in the beautiful sub-tropical rainforest of ferns, Nikau palms, rimu, etc. before emerging onto a coastal headland with stunning views up and down the local coastline. 30 Tips for Backpacking in New Zealand ➜
-- About this video --
Today we are hitting the road from Karamea to Punakaiki on the West Coast of the South Island, but that’s such a huge drive down the Great Coast Road that we need to find some things to do in the West Coast along the way.
From Karamea, we drive through the snowy mountains and arrive in Westport, showing true signs of the wild West Coast weather. At Westport, we have a quick stop to check out the Coaltown Museum, which gives insights to what the West Coast of New Zealand used to be all about: coal mining.
After the Coaltown Museum in Westport, we hit the Great Coast Road toward Constant & Joyce Bays. St Constant Bay is a 15-minute loop walk showing the wild rugged coast of the West Coast, South Island. Once we have done the Constant Bay walk, we head to the final New Zealand attraction of the day, Punakaiki Pancake Rocks & Blowholes!
Punakaiki Pancake Rocks is one of the most popular short walks on the West Coast of the South Island. The loop track takes us to viewpoints over rocks that look to be stacked like pancakes. It’s a bizarre sight but a must-see in New Zealand.
We don’t have to travel too far from the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks because tonight we are staying at the Punakaiki Beach Camp.
So what do you think of this New Zealand West Coast road trip on the Great Coast Road? Would you visit Coaltown, Constant & Joyce Bays or the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks?

Nelson Lakes Angelus Hut Tramp & Able Tasman Coastal Walk - South Island New Zealand
Join Kiwi Princess Wears Hiking Boots on our spectacular Nelson Lakes Angelus Hut Tramp & Able Tasman Coastal Walk - in the South Island of New Zealand. Nelson Lakes offers superb walking opportunities for all.
We decided on a New Zealand Backcountry Tramp (navigational experience etc. required) in the Nelson Lakes National Park. starting from the picturesque Lake Rotoiti to Angelus Hut and Lake Angelus (1 of 5 glacial basins you'll pass) and exting down the uber steep Cedric Track to tranquil Lake Rotoroa and out by water taxi!!
From St Arnaud head up to Robert Ridge Carpark for a fabulous hike along Robert Ridge to the Angelus Basin and delightfully situated Angelus Hut (bookings essential in peak season) run by DOC.
The weather was changeable & moody. Whilst mist was our constant companion it loaned a mystical feel to this rugged New Zealand Landscape. It was a thrilling backcountry tramp and our most glam exit yet!
Nelson Lakes National Park is an attractive outdoor playground for boating, swimming, fishing and hunting.
We also hiked in the nearby Able Tasman National Park. The Able Tasman Coastal Walk (a formatted NZ Great Walk) requires average fittness & preparation. The track's well marked and distances between campsites/accomodation are relatively short. We decided on a single day return hike on the Able Tasman Coastal Track (due to the aftermath of Cyclone Gita). Day One - Marahau to Anchorage is 3.5 - 4 hours each way. Drop down to Appletree Bay on the way for a toilet stop, or a picnic and a swim (weather permitting).

Paparoa National Park
On a recent trip to the West Coast, we explored the Paparoa National Park. Starting from Waikori Road we walked up the Inland Pack Track until it reached the Pororari River Track, finishing at the Punakaiki Tavern. The section along the Pororari River Track will eventually be the final stretch of the new Paparoa Track Great Walk when it opens in December this year.
