PARACAS PERU | Islas Ballestas & Paracas National Reserve | Paracas Ica | Peru Hop
The next stop on our Peru Hop journey is Paracas Peru, the home of Islas Ballestas and Paracas National Reserve Peru!
After getting a good night's sleep, we wake up, have breakfast, and go on a tour of Islas Ballestas - commonly known here as The Poor Man's Galapagos - a good description. Here, we see hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) of sea birds, dozens of sea lions, and some cute Humboldt Penguins. A great couple of hours in an amazing place - and all for just $15 US each!
Next, a free Peru Hop tour of the Paracas National Reserve. It's just outside the town - about 10-15 minutes away - but it's like going to a completely different world. An arid desert touching up against a beautiful ocean. We wish we could have flown a drone over Paracas National Reserve. It was that beautiful!
Special thanks to our friends at Peru Hop. If you want to see the real Peru, we highly suggest you book your journey with this company. Comfortable buses, great guides, worry-free booking and itinerary changes, and never any pressure to book or buy anything you don't want to. We loved our trip with them (and will use them again in Ecuador!)

FAQ's:
Q Where are you from?
A I am born in former Yugoslavia. Mom is Serbian, Dad is Bosnian. During the '90's war we came to the Netherlands and I got Dutch nationality. Have been living in Amsterdam for over 5 years.
Q How can you afford to travel so much?
A I saved for 3 years while working full time and now travel vlogging is my job. I work together with tourism agencies but also do some freelance work on the side. You can watch this video: and this one: to learn more about my story.
Q What camera do you film with and what editing software do you use?
A Canon G7X Mark II and Final Cut Pro X
Q (Why) Are you vegetarian?
A I'm vegetarian but not strict. I don't eat any meat, fish, cooked/boiled or fried eggs. I gradually became a vegetarian over the course of 15 years because I disliked the taste of meat more and more. After doing a yoga teacher training in 2015 I also quit fish and the eggs. No matter my food preferences I have no issues with other people not being vegetarian. I don't judge others and kind of expect the same favor from others concerning my own food preferences. It makes for a more friendly world :-)
Q Why do you usually travel alone?
A Because my friends have jobs with limited holidays, kids and partners. Also I really like exploring on my own.
Q Why do you love India so much?
A Watch this video: and this one:

PARACAS, PERU | Brenda Rodriguez
Hello! (Hola! Más abajo esta la descripción en español)
This past December my family and I went to Lima, Peru to celebrate the holidays with family as well as to Paracas, Peru to explore this southern part of Peru! I loved sailing out to sea while still being in a desert climate but my favorite part was by far the Tacama vineyard we visited. It was SO BEAUTIFUL and no video or picture can do it justice. We had a great time, enjoy!

PeruRoadTrip GoPro Paracas & Ballestas Islands
Only 4 easy hours from the capital city of Peru you will find paradise in the middle of the desert. PeruRoadTrip goes on yet another adventure, this time to Paracas Nature Reserve and the Ballestas Islands. This trip from Lima can be done in 1 day, or to get the full experience you can stay the night at the oasis in Huacachina and ride on dune buggies and go sand boarding. You can see this activity in our Huacachina sand boarding video. The overnight tour leaves from Lima in the morning arriving in Ica/Huacachina in the early afternoon. After checking into your hotel and lunch at the oasis the real fun begins. The dune buggy and sand board tour begins at 4pm and then you watch the sun go down from the dunes. The next morning we drive out to Paracas, navigating through the reserve in a private 4x4 vehicle. After a boat ride to view the islands and the sea life up close we return to Lima in the evening. Is PARACAS the POOR MAN'S GALÁPAGOS? | Exploring Islas Ballestas | PERU travel vlog
As some of you know or remember, I visited the Galápagos Islands back in January, so when I heard that the Islas Ballestas is the poor man's version of the Galápagos, I naturally had to see for myself. So the real question is, Is the Ballestas Islands a poor man's version of the Galápagos? And I would say yes! Now, the Islas Ballestas may not have the same exact animals that you would see in the Galápagos, but they have similar species, such as the sea lion, penguins and Peru's own version of the boobie! If you can not afford to travel to the Galápagos, because let's face it, it's pretty expensive, and you are planning a trip to Peru, then make a stop to Paracas! Paracas is only a couple hours south of Lima and it is the perfect beachy getaway!
In addition to the Ballestas Islands, we also explored the Paracas National Reserve. Our 24 hours here in Paracas was definitely unforgettable. I am so glad that this was one of the stops along our Peruvian Adventure. Have you ever been to Paracas? If not, did this vlog make it on your Peru bucket list? If you liked this video make sure to HIT THE LIKE BUTTON and SUBSCRIBE! You do NOT want to miss out on our next Peruvian Adventure because we are heading to Huacachina! Thing to do in Paracas, Peru: Islas Ballestas Tour (Video 30)
Hey everyone!
I was in Paracas a couple of weeks ago attending a raw vegan festival and was able to go on the Islas Ballestas Tour which was one of the planned activities during the festival. This was my third time going to the Ballestas islands and I always love going to see all the wild animals in their natural habitat.
I hope that you enjoyed the footage from the islands and that the video helped you in some way!

Action Packed Peru Hop [Paracas | Huacachina | Nazca]
In this video, we travel across several tourist hot spots including Paracas, Huacachina, Ica, and Nazca.
**********************************
Because we had a lot of places we planned to cover in a short period of time, we decided to utilize Peru Hop. We found the service very convenient to use, and appreciated the increased levels of security as well as the ability to meet other travelers. The cost is higher than public bus and comfort is about the same. They did however include English speaking guides on each bus as well as pick up drop off service to your hotel / hostel.
As a couple, we did find the seating process a bit frustrating. Essentially the seats are first come, first serve. We quickly learned that the best strategy is to have one person board right away with the carry on luggage while the other gets in line to place the large bags under the bus. This was probably our only complaint, otherwise this company is really well organized and we applaud them for paving the way for a developing market with high customer demand!

Peru pt 2: Islas Ballestas Paracas. Poor mans Galapagos
A relatively short bus ride away from Lima (about 4 hours) is the town of Paracas, home to the Islas Ballestas, otherwise known as the poor mans Galapagos Islands, which to my mind is doing it a diservice as the Islands here are amazing.
Granted I have never been to the Galapagos and would love to one day, but the wildlife on display in Islas Ballestas is really amazing, our only gripe is that the tour is way too short, and we would have liked more time to just sit and watch the animals.
The town of Paracas itself is fine, nothing really to right home about and the food was a bit lacklustre (except for the cheap mountain of hot chips we found from a street vendor after dinner!). But the tour of the Islands is definitely worht doing when you are in this part of the world.
We both agreed we could quite happily have done the same tour twice, once for pictures and once just to marvel and all the birds, penguins, seals and sea lions that call the place home. Paracas and its wildlife was definitely a highlight for us!
Paracas, Peru & The Ballestas Islands
Paracas is home to Peru's famous Ballestas Islands, popularly referred to as the little Galapagos. The islands are home to sea lions, penguins, pelicans, puffins, sharks, dolphins, whales, turtles and a hundred other bird species. Here's a little montage of my time there. For more info, check out my blog post at getlostandbefound.com
Paracas Islas Ballestas Turismo Tour
We spent the better part of our time in Peru gorging on food during our teaching practicum. When we did have a chance to venture off for the weekend, one of our favorite things was visiting the Ballestas Islands where we had a chance to spot penguins, seals and birds thrusting through the water in a tourist speed-boat. Nicknamed by some The Galapagos Islands of Peru that's likely more than a little bit of a stretch; however, considering this is just a short half-day trip it could be an alternative for those who don't want to fork-out the big bucks to see the real deal.

Islas Ballestas: Spotting penguins, seals and birds in Peru Travel Video Transcript:
So we have a fun little excursion planned for today. We're going to be visiting Islas Ballestas. And they're often nicknamed as Peru's version of the Galapagos Islands, so we're planning to see a lot of wildlife, visiting some cool rock formations and just enjoy the outdoors.
Our journey began in the small port town of Paracas where we boarded a small speedboat to take us out to the islands. The journey took about 30 minutes to complete and along the way we stopped to admire the Candelabra - a cool geoglyph, which we unfortunately were not able to capture on camera. Just take our word for it, it looks exactly like a three-armed candle holder.
We got to see a lot of wildlife during the tour including: pelicans, penguins, sea lions and all manner of birds. At one point we approached a hidden cave where hundreds of sea lions had just given birth to their pups.
This 2 hour tour cost 40 soles per person ($13 USD) and the national conservation fee was an additional 10 soles ($3 USD). It was a fun weekend outing, and it gave us a little taste of what the Galapagos Islands must be like.
That was a pretty awesome trip. We saw a lot of wildlife and one of the funniest moments was when the captain lost his hat and we had to fish it out of the water with a selfie-stick.
This is part of our Travel in Peru series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Peruvian culture, Peruvian arts, Peruvian foods, Peruvian religion, Peruvian cuisine and Peruvian people.
