Paradise Garden shows the world that art thrives outside of museums in ordinary places and everyday objects. This story shows the exclusive rebuilding of Howard Finster's legacy, through the restoration of the Garden he spent almost 50 years creating. Howard Finster, the grandfather of Southern Folk Art, is remembered for creating the largest art installation in the United States. It continues to serve as inspiration to generations of iconic musicians and artists, as we capture his legacy through their stories.
He took what others might deem trash or obsolete and turned it into something contemplative. He opened Paradise Garden for the world to enjoy, a true testament that Art comes to life, when people are able to interact with it. Howard Finster showed the world that objects surrounding us can take on a new life, in a sometimes magical way, and communicate messages that can lead to transformation.

Jan and I had a chance to stop by Paradise Gardens in Georgia last month on vacation. Wow you have to see this collection of art created by the objects others discarded. It is an amazing place and if you are ever in northern Georgia you should stop by and see it for yourself.
In addition to painting REM, Blackhawk and Talking Head Album covers, Howard Finster was the grandfather of religious folk art.

He has lectured and shown his works in schools as widespread as North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Colorado and in galleries from San Francisco to New York. The following interview with [GHC faculty member] George Pullen took place in his Pennville, Georgia garden.

A WOMAN claims that her pet monkey has stopped her from getting a boyfriend - but she’ll never give him up. Stephanie Fusco grew up dreaming of owning a pet monkey, and her dreams came true two years ago. The 26-year-old's monkey, Alexander Laurence Fusco, also known as Xander, is a white faced capuchin lives with her in North Carolina, where it is legal to own certain exotic pets. Capuchins are medium-sized New World monkeys, native to Central America, however their intelligence and adaptability has made them sought after pets. Unsurprisingly domesticating a monkey hasn’t always been the easiest of tasks and Stephanie admits that her dedication to Xander the monkey has even affected her dating life. See more of Xander here:
