Paradise Park Miniature Railway Newhaven 2019
A short video taken on Saturday 2nd February 2019 showing the Paradise Park Miniature Railway in Avis Road, Newhaven, East Sussex. It is at an attraction called Paradise Park which consists of a large children’s play area (both inside and outside), amusements, animatronic dinosaurs, model village, lakes and gardens, as well as a large garden centre. The Paradise Park Miniature Railway is on part of the site and is also often referred to as the Newhaven Miniature Railway. It is of 7 1/4 inch gauge, is 300 yards long, and first opened in 1989. In that time it has had several locos, no more than one at any time, and all by Mardyke Miniature Railways Ltd. The track and stock all appears to be well looked after and is predominately a circuit with steel rail, wooden sleepers, with very small gravel and pea shingle as ballast. I believe the maroon Class 35 “Hymec” loco to be a 4w-4wPH built and delivered new in 2011. The four Mardyke Pullman brown and cream carriages I believe are older, but thought not to originate from when the railway opened in 1989.

A Sussex family day out to see the dinosaus at Paradise Park
Two very tired geriatric mums are having a day out in Sussex, more precisely, we are visiting the garden centre and the dinosaur theme park Paradise Park in Newhaven. Apart from dinosaur roars and soft play, we chat about our guilty mum moments and smuggling booze into the garden centre.

Paradise Park Miniature Railway East Sussex 2018
A short video taken on Sunday 4th February 2018 of the seven and a quarter inch gauge miniature railway which runs around part of the site of Paradise Park Heritage Trail and Gardens in Newhaven, East Sussex. Stock consists of a maroon Mardyke Hymec loco and three Pullman carriages. However, on the day of our visit, the Hymec was out of service, apparently due to a mechanical fault so a blue and white narrow gauge outline loco, also built by Mardyke, is currently on loan from Mardyke themselves until the resident loco is repaired. The driver explained that the replacement loco wasn’t as fast or as powerful as the Hymec, therefore one carriage out of the three had to be dropped from the set, subsequently causing minor queues due to the popularity of this attraction. Sadly the driver didn’t know much more than the above, or the build date or history of the loco on loan but after looking in The Narrow Gauge Railway Society’s Mardyke Locomotives book, I believe it is the 4w-4PH B&S 6HP powered shunter loco on page 15 that was built in 2012 and delivered in November that year to Westgate Shopping Centre Railway in Shepherds Bush. By 2015 it had been sold back to Mardyke and later loaned to Barleylands Miniature Railway in Essex but it’s stay was again short lived as by February 2016 it was back with Mardyke. So it would appear that it is currently being used as a spare or a courtesy loco. It may appear as though the driver likes beeping the horn however several footpaths cross the railway so would appear this is purely for health and safety reasons.
