Alternadores - A band between two cities
The effervescent music scene of João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil, has been producing many interesting names such as RIEG, Arthur III, Glue Trip, Amaro Mann and D_M_G, following the steps of older and more consolidated acts like Cabruêra, Chico Correa & Electronic Band, Totonho & Os Cabra and Burro Morto. Alternadores is one of the interesting novelties of the scene, being a group formed by the musicians and producers Carlos Eduardo Batista (Bidu), Igor Gadelha (Pepeu Guzman) and Gustavo Pozzobon. Alternadores’ sound mixes organic and synthetic timbres, along with broken beats and heavily modified samples to build what some would call synth rock, with perceptible influences from the L.A. beat scene, sometimes sounding like Animal Collective, Caribou, Battles or Ratatat.
Their history began in 2013, when Pepeu and Bidu worked together in a research project developed at LAViD (a Multimedia Research Lab at the Federal University of Paraiba), which aimed to create conditions for the realization of networked musical performances. Later on they started to play and record with Pozzobon, a common friend of both. The result of this reunion was the beginning of the band Alternadores, that had it first EP, named Beta, released in 2014, an experimental creative job that was considered promising by the local press, but not quite technically polished by members today's opinion.
“The Beta EP was sort of a rude experimentation: working with some new technology, researching the proper tools and achieving a result that worths the distribution. At that time we established some of the elements that would become the basis of our aesthetics.” - Gustavo Pozzobon
However, it was during the recording of the Malverde EP (2015) that the trio consolidated most of their key sound aesthetics elements, achieving higher level results for their rhythmic, harmonic and melodic explorations. It was also during the record of Malverde that the band begun to work remotely, when Gustavo Pozzobon went to live in Brasilia. The Malverde production was somehow challenging, since that a new production approach was defined during its recording. In the end, the defined creative process was able to break the distance barrier, creating a freer environment for experimentation.
“Our first EP, Beta, was recorded and produced in sessions involving all of us, but then afterwards Pozzobon moved out to Brasilia and we still had some fragments of musics and ideas that we wanted to develop. We consolidated our remote production process during the production of the Malverde EP. The way that we interact now is quite different, the evolution of each song is made throughout arbitrary superpositions of individual decisions. So, the discussion about each decision during the production has to be done carefully, but I believe that we reached a good level of maturity for our process.” - Bidu
Despite the great solutions found to work their productions remotely, the group is still affected when it comes to live presentations, having only appeared live in João Pessoa at Ciclo das Quartas and Festival Mundo.
“Our strategy focuses the music production processes, and lacks solutions for live performances (although technology already addresses this issue). It will be a great step when we start to experiment live, using the results of our networked music researches, but we all know that this would demand a whole new level of musical and technological preparation. A complete change of focus must be made to achieve this kind of performance.” - Pepeu Guz
Alternadores now launch their new EP, which is named Wanderlust. The EP cover and its graphical concept was created by Leandro Luna, a long time friend of the band who was also responsible for Beta’s visual arts. The EP’s first single, Glitched Gamelevel, was released in March 8th, 2017, and the secons Single, Pra Onde Corre o Rio, was release in March 14th. A videoart was released along with Glitched Gamelevel, produced by Leandro Luna and Gustavo Pozzobon.
Wanderlust is available on all major music platforms, such as iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, Deezer, Pandora, Amazon etc.

(Marcos Arruda)

Brazil (Portuguese: Brasil Portuguese pronunciation: [bɾaˈziw]), officially the Federative Republic of Brazil (Portuguese: República Federativa do Brasil, listen ), is the largest country in both South America and Latin America. At 8.5 million square kilometers (3.2 million square miles) and with over 208 million people, Brazil is the world's fifth-largest country by area and the fifth most populous. The capital is Brasília, and the most populated city is São Paulo. The federation is composed of the union of the 26 states, the Federal District, and the 5,570 municipalities. It is the largest country to have Portuguese as an official language and the only one in the Americas; it is also one of the most multicultural and ethnically diverse nations, due to over a century of mass immigration from around the world.Bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the east, Brazil has a coastline of 7,491 kilometers (4,655 mi). It borders all other South American countries except Ecuador and Chile and covers 47.3% of the continent's land area. Its Amazon River basin includes a vast tropical forest, home to diverse wildlife, a variety of ecological systems, and extensive natural resources spanning numerous protected habitats. This unique environmental heritage makes Brazil one of 17 megadiverse countries, and is the subject of significant global interest and debate regarding deforestation and environmental protection.
Brazil was inhabited by numerous tribal nations prior to the landing in 1500 of explorer Pedro Álvares Cabral, who claimed the area for the Portuguese Empire. Brazil remained a Portuguese colony until 1808, when the capital of the empire was transferred from Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro. In 1815, the colony was elevated to the rank of kingdom upon the formation of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves. Independence was achieved in 1822 with the creation of the Empire of Brazil, a unitary state governed under a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary system. The ratification of the first constitution in 1824 led to the formation of a bicameral legislature, now called the National Congress. The country became a presidential republic in 1889 following a military coup d'état. An authoritarian military junta came to power in 1964 and ruled until 1985, after which civilian governance resumed. Brazil's current constitution, formulated in 1988, defines it as a democratic federal republic. Due to its rich culture and history, the country ranks thirteenth in the world by number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.Brazil has the eighth largest GDP in the world by both nominal and PPP measures (as of 2017). It is s one of the world's major breadbaskets, being the largest producer of coffee for the last 150 years. It is classified as an upper-middle income economy by the World Bank and a newly industrialized country, with the largest share of global wealth in Latin America. Brazil is a regional power in Latin America and sometimes considered a great power in international affairs, while some analysts identify it as a middle power. It has an international recognition and influence, and is subsequently classified as an emerging power and a potential superpower by several analysts. Brazil is a founding member of the United Nations, the G20, BRICS, Union of South American Nations, Mercosul, Organization of American States, Organization of Ibero-American States and the Community of Portuguese Language Countries.

According to the 2016 American Community Survey, There are a total of 42,193,781 foreign born persons in the United States. From the 42.2 million immigrants, 350,091 are Brazilians, corresponding 0.83% (350,091/42.2million) of the foreign born population. While the official United States Census category of Hispanic or Latino includes persons of South American origin, it also refers to persons of other Spanish culture, creating some ambiguity about whether Brazilians, who are of South American origin but do not have a Spanish culture, qualify as Latino, as while they are not Hispanic (of a culture derived from Spain), they are Latino (which is short for latinoamericano).Other U.S. government agencies, such as the Small Business Administration and the Department of Transportation, specifically include Brazilians within their definitions of Hispanic and Latino for purposes of awarding minority preferences by defining Hispanic Americans to include persons of South America ancestry or persons who have Portuguese cultural roots.
